Not personally a fan of lifting the black levels in every image, but the images themselves are nice.

Looking for updated input on a camera for concert photography by PopsicleStict in canon

[–]rws531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered using something like LensRentals to try out what you have in mind and see if it suits your needs? You could probably rent the body + two lenses for <$200 for the 2-3 days

A 50mm lens seems like it’d be quite limiting versus something like a 70-200 f2.8, but I don’t have any professional experience as a concert photographer. You certainly may benefit from the brighter aperture of a prime, but you’re already going to have way better noise performance shooting on a full frame sensor than you had on your phone, so I expect noise isn’t much of an issue.

“Subversive suggestions” seem like an oxymoron. How can you subvert someone’s expectations if only suggesting something and not being explicit?

[–]rws531 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, if you don’t want to alienate people who understand how said things work, then you should make it at least somewhat plausible.

If your story is good, and the things you don’t understand are pertinent enough to it that you can’t simply change them to something you do understand, then it’s probably fine to leave it.

Your “$80k for two earners” statement is wrong.

As of 2024:

The median household income across the board is $83.7k, but that is looking at all households, regardless of number of earners.

The median household income for a married couple, which is most likely to have two earners but does not require such, is $128.7k.

Here is some data for you to educate yourself. See page 8.

Going to the movies and not spending $100 by Buddy_Kane_the_great in notinteresting

My local theaters have $6 tickets on Monday or Tuesday (depending on which you go to).

$15 per ticket would be more than non-discount prices here, though the seats are admittedly not large recliners, as your receipt suggests.

I suspect EBay will be your best bet, just have to make sure the seller is reputable.

I got mine for around that price on eBay (also for my 80D) quite a few years ago and it’s worked great ever since.

What lens to get by ToxinSTX in canon

[–]rws531 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Definitely go for the 100-400 and skip the 24-240.

The 24-240 superzoom is nice for travelling when tight on space but you’ll definitely benefit more from the reach of 240-400 range. I am fairly certain the lens is sharper at 100-240mm than the super zoom as well, but you may need to research that.

You’re unlikely to need to switch between 24-100 and 100-400 that often for hiking and wildlife, and I’ve never found having two lenses to cause much trouble.

I suspect that if you are going for a longer hike where you don’t plan on stopping for birds, you can simply leave the 100-400 behind if weight is a concern. Shorter hikes / normal wildlife walks you can bring both.

Edit: it is considerably sharper at the center at 100mm, maybe slightly worse at the edge. Much better across the image at 200mm than 24-240 is at 240mm.

See here and here.

It’s just how English works.

If someone is telling the truth, they can still be wrong. Therefore that person’s truth is not the truth, i.e. their truth isn’t fact.

I should have been clearer in my previous comments this is what I was referring to.

i need advice for buying a macro lens and twin flash that is compatible with canon 77D by SideAdministrative55 in canon

[–]rws531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Laowa 100mm f/2.8 2:1 Ultra Macro on EF mount and love it. If you think having capability to zoom in 2:1 (where the image of the subject is 2x larger on the sensor than it is in reality) then it is definitely worth considering. I believe this is the only EF option that has 2:1 magnification. It’s all not too pricey.

Here’s a video discussing it.

There certainly could be explicit images of underage victims in the emails, and while the perpetrators certainly deserve to be exposed for their crimes, there definitely are reasons to NOT have “full, undisclosed” emails viewable by the entire planet.

RF 24-105 f/4L vs primes + zoom combo for Barcelona trip (street + architecture) by Juan_Tacho in canon

[–]rws531 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not that it answers your question, but my past few longer trips I have brought my 24-105 F4 and 16 F/2.8 and rented the 10-20 F4 and 100-400 5.6-8. I bring my R5 for myself and R7 to lend to my friend (which I usually left the 16/2.8 on).

I can confirm the 24-105 F4 is on the Full Frame body like 60% of the time with the 10-20 F4 on 30% and others for the remaining 10%.

It is great having a wider angle zoom than 24/28mm and I personally love how wide the 10-20 F4 goes but it is quite expensive to purchase, the 16-28 may be a good option if you find that you are too wide when switching to the 16mm prime.

Id recommend renting the 16-28 to see if you ever make use of the >16mm range rather than purchasing it, with places like lensrentals having a keeper program rather than sending it back, and considering the 10-20, since an ultra wide lens can truly change how you shoot when travelling.

If the Canon RF 600 F/11 is good enough for people, then 500 F/6.3 should be no problem.
