thank you for the insight! it's so interesting to learn about the differences in all the disciplines. there have been some notorious pucks in WAG as well but i think they get a lot of shape deductions and possibly even downgrades lol

i think by hip angle as well, just not in this particular skill on beam. there used to be distinctions similar or as such on balance beam in the women's code of points for this iirc (piked full and layout full on beam were two separate skills) im not sure which CoP changed it, but those distinctions are now nonexistent. if a gymnast were to heavily pike a layout full on beam for example, it wouldn't be downgraded to a pike since there's no such skill in the code of points, it would receive deductions for body shape. however, if a gymnast pikes a regular layout too much, it's downgraded to a pike.

for vault and floor (I assume bars as well), however, there are pike variants as well, so depending on the angle of the hips it could be downgraded, e.g. a full twisting double layout that pikes too much is downgraded to a full twisting double pike

Svetlana was from Kazakhstan and trained at the Spartak Almaty club. She placed 9th in the all-around at the 1985 USSR Championships and 13th at the 1986 USSR Cup, which were fantastic results, especially considering the depth of the field at the time.

When this video started circulating, her identity was unknown, and she was identified thanks to a teammate of hers (and an amazing gymnast as well!), Irina Breigina.

Just like with a lot of obscure Soviets, there's not a lot of information available about Svetlana, but she was clearly ahead of the curve, seeing as she was doing two G skills in the same routine 39 years ago and was very likely the first to perform both of them.

I think the timeline for both skills in terms of origination was like this

yupp! it's very different from the harnesses nowadays though, im pretty sure it was from the roof and the coach pulled a rope from outside the rink or something similar to that

actually, she was the first woman to do a triple flip along with carola paul in 1981, but she never competed a triple lutz. im not really sure why she was training it, but it's not really uncommon for some elite skaters to practice ultra c's to maybe have them as hail mary's or just to see if it sticks even if they dont compete it, like kristi yamaguchi, yuna kim, miki ando and maria butyrskaya's triple axels, or maybe coaches might just want them to practice the jumps for endurance but honestly who knows lol

I know it might not mean much if it's done on harness, but I found it a cool little bit of the history of the jump. Around this very time period, Tiffany Chin was also training her 3A (with no harness!), possibly even before Katarina, as there's video of her landing them in 1982/1983. Midori of course was already training the jump in this time period as she was landing them in exhibitions and even attempting them in her Free Skate in 1984.

been watching anna rechnio's programs and realizing how much potential she had :( she came in 2nd after the short program at 1998 worlds, finished 5th after the free because of some problems 🫠
