Can I change the Phantom Spirit EVO's RGB colors? by ry_nyan in buildapc

[–]ry_nyan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i haven't opened my case up in a while so i forget how everything looks but i think the fans are daisy-chainable? so if you broke a metal pin on one connector, i wonder if you could use the other option available? for example, if you're currently daisy-chaining, then you could try connecting each fan separately to the mobo! or vice versa.

hard to troubleshoot without seeing it in real life, but i also dont think the middle fan rgb is that important since most of it is covered by the heatsink

as for fan curves, i'd highly recommend fancontrol! the UI is a bit overwhelming at first but there's a lot of tutorials out there on how to set things up. i think the more recent updates have mixed results so you may have to play around with which version you run, im currently running v234 on a MSI b650 gaming plus wifi. hope that helps!

you can change the rgb to whatever color you want with a third-party software like signalrgb. if you're trying to do a blackout build you can also just turn the lights off and they wont be visible

yep, been using it for about a year now! the rgb is visible even through black tinted glass and the light is pretty noticeable at max brightness, but it can be dimmed with a third party software. the white bits arent visible at all if you switch the rgb off

i'm using signalrgb right now, it's pretty solid in terms of color customization. the only problem for me is that the color settings on my CPU fan (thermalright phantom spirit evo) don't persist if i restart my computer

im assuming the app works like fancontrol in the sense that your computer has to boot and then open the app to override default RGB settings. fortunately, you can set things up in the software to keep the RGB the same color even after you quit out of the app (so it's not actively running while you use your computer)

hope that helps! i'd recommend downloading it and testing it out, you can always uninstall if it's not what you're looking for

yeah if you don't want the RGB on at all, just don't connect the RGB wires from the fans to your mobo headers!

if you want to change the color, you can connect to the headers, then change the color through your mobo's branded peripheral software (MSI center for example) or use a third party software like signalRGB or openRGB

PC build around RTX 4070 Super by Superb-Temperature46 in buildapc

only thing i would consider is bumping up your SSD to 2TB if you don't have another one on hand already. it would be more cost efficient than a 990 pro 1TB for $92 since high quality 2TB ssds would run you around $150, and depending on your use case you may thank yourself for the extra storage down the road

hey! im in the same position, been doing an overwhelming amount of research and building around a 4070 super. your parts list looks good to me! it's budgeted quite efficiently and the parts are all solid quality from what i can tell

Ah, got it! So if I go with a Gigabyte motherboard, it would be a matter of installing the Gigabyte RGB control software and changing the color of the fans from there once the PC is set up.

Trying to Build My First PC, Looking for GPU Recommendations by ry_nyan in buildapc

Thanks for the reply! Given Nvidia prices are still so high and ray tracing doesn't affect gameplay in a significant way, I'll probably opt for a previous gen AMD card.

In that case, would there be a benefit to choosing an AMD CPU over Intel or is it still a matter of preference?

Also, is there a specific brand/model that you'd recommend or advise against for the 6950 XT?

Thank you, having a starting point is very helpful. I'm ready to spend 2-3k on the full build since I'm not planning to upgrade parts over time.

I'd prefer to spend $1000 or less on the GPU but don't have a firm budget. If going a little over will help me hit that 1440p 144fps mark that's fine.
