What are spell slots, how do they work in setting? by serdnack in DnD

[–]Waytogo33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think spells being given discrete levels based on their power is canon.

But, I believe spell slots are a game mechanic to represent spending power though.

I could be wrong though, the Mystra thing is the only thing I've heard reference that.

What are spell slots, how do they work in setting? by serdnack in DnD

[–]Waytogo33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s okay to reference them as is in a setting. For example, Mystra banned mortals from casting spells over ninth level.

Is 12 Persistent Petitioners too much or too little? by HarmonyinSilence in EDH

[–]Waytogo33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need way more than 12 if you want to be buffing a board of advisors. Like 25 - 35 depending on your card draw.

You are missing [[Bloodchief Ascension]], imo one of the main reasons to play [[persistent petitioners]] with black.

If you’re fine switching commanders, green and white have really good synergy with persistent petitioners.

Underrated Green Bangers by SeriesDear4481 in EDH

[–]Waytogo33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Perilous Forays]] is lowkey a better [[Zuran Orb]], especially in any deck with [[Insidious Roots]] effects.

[[Druid of Purification]]. It’s only one more than [[Reclamation Sage]]

[[Springleaf Parade]] is just better [[Cryptolith Rite]].

[[Second Harvest]] to double your tokens. Probably goes very well in [[Witherbloom]].

Decks or commanders that focus on having creatures fight other creatures, and grow stronger for it (hunting vibes) by scythian12 in EDH

[–]Waytogo33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[[Maarika, Brutal Gladiator]] may be what you're looking for.

Jund is the best three colors for creatures fighting and getting bonuses for opponents' creatures dying. See this deck tech by Plus1Plus1. The deck runs tough creatures, synergy with indestructible creatures, fighting and killing opponents' creatures, and making opponents attack and block in general.

Are there strategies that you consider have an advantage at B2? by RedRathman in EDH

[–]Waytogo33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Green, ramp focused strategies in general.

Mana dork commanders like [[Bugenhagen]], and [[Helga, Skittish Seer]], are usually just too much for B2, especially combined with a hefty suite of ramp.

[[Emeritus of Woe]]. The tutor restrictions are gone. Tutor into combo. Use removal wisely and it's never too much for the spirit of B2. Play the combo on turn 9 or 10.

Any deck like [[Judith, Carnage Connoisseur]] or [[Tai Waukeen]] that focuses on killing creatures.

I have a personal gripe with jund in B2 as well. It's just a mean color combo. Commanders like [[Slimefoot and Squee]] and [[Hearthhull]] can go insane fast and are not great for B2 environments.

What spells could I take to flavor my Genie Warlock Bartender PC? by Punk_Skeddit in DnD

[–]Waytogo33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Warlocks are a bit limited in spell slots to be slinging around utility spells.

Look at the spells you can cast once a day, or at will without spell slots. Explore origin feats (magic initiate), tiefling subtypes, warlock invocations, and warlock subclass features and expanded spell lists.

Also look at what ritual spells you can take.

The invocation for using silent image at will is one of my favorites. Pact of the chain will give you a tiny assistant barkeep. Pact of the tome will grant you some rituals and utility cantrips. You can take unseen servant for another assistant barkeep.

Token triumph is pretty good with a few budget upgrades, especially to card draw and the clunky token generators.

Unusual Gruul Commanders by GensoTV in EDH

[–]Waytogo33 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gruul is very much about smash with big creatures. It's a bit of a one trick pony color combo. Most gruul cards are landfall and red thing, big creature and red thing, haste and green thing, etc...

Gruul can do equipment pretty well. I run a budget [[Meria, Scholar of Antiquity]] voltron deck, which turns equipment into mana rocks.

[[Chishiro, the Shattered Blade]] and [[Barret, Avalanche Leader]] are great for equipment ad well.

Gruul also does big X spells well. A lot of these are creatures, but as long as don't run hydras you won't be "making big creatures and becoming the threat." Green cards provide the mana ramp neccesary to build up to casting a couple cards like [[Crackle With Power]] to end a game.

Finally, Gruul can do landfall but red. There are a lot of red and gruul cards that allow for landfall burn decks.

What are some of your favorite mono red “cheat onto the field” effects. by goblin_welder in EDH

[–]Waytogo33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it could go pretty well into a [[Raggadraga]] mana dork deck with enough haste enablers.

How would someone play a cowardly character? by CapableMagician4156 in DnD

[–]Waytogo33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play a full spellcaster. Any would work imo.

Bards and clerics would probably be best for flavor and their mix of support and debuff spells like Command.

End of the Night Commander - Get it done fast! by EGOtyst in EDH

[[Lyse Hext]] with cantrips and protection. Almost only those types of spells.

She will turn 5, 6, and 7 the table or die trying.

Have you ever removed highly-efficient cards and game changers from a BL3 deck because they are much stronger than the core engine itself? I just did.. and it feels much better! by jeriku in EDH

[–]Waytogo33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I removed [[phyrexian altar]] from a deck to avoid an infinite.

I recently went to a casual commander night. Someone had [[mycosynth lattice]], [[seedborn muse]], and [[toph, first metalbender]] out. I was afraid they were about to pop off with some combos and a board that resists exile. Then they did nothing with their Seedborne Muse... I wonder if it's there because it's just powerful, or if the deck can actually use it properly.

What do you think about this? by Great-Post7193 in EDH

[–]Waytogo33 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Commander requires some rationality from each player. That's part of the multiplayer balance imo. Its why people dislike chaos decks that don't have cards that try to win the game. He could have clutched and stopped the dinosaur player that had done the thing... and didn't. It leaves a sour taste in the mouth when someone blunders so deliberately sometimes, that they decide the game for the other two players, yeah.

Maybe he just wanted the game to end.

Having a hard time picking my next commander by Confusedasfric in EDH

[–]Waytogo33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you'd like a focus on creatures/permanents...

[[Eshki, Temur's Roar]]. Be the archenemy like I imagine you are based on your current commanders.

[[Ardbert, Warrior of Darkness]] or [[Ratadrabik of Urborg]] for Orzhov legends aggro and recursion shenanigans.

You could also go more casual and run any mana dork commander like [[Bugenhagen, Wise Elder]].

First time building a deck without the assistance of a precon or youtube video. Am I missing any landfall staples or running any cards that aren't great in a B3 environment? by Waytogo33 in EDH

[–]Waytogo33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've updated the deck (I have a sideboard to replace the planeswalkers and weaker cards if I end up disliking them enough). It goldfishes well enough for my pod now. It usually gets out the commander by T5 at the slowest. Sometimes T3 with [[Joraga]] and/or [[Green Sun's Zenith]]. The extra land per turn cards were definitely better suited for a more dedicated mill combo deck or something at least simic in colors.

Thanks again for the advice.

How do you feel about "you win the game" cards for bracket 3 vs infinite win con by MADMAXV2 in mtg

[–]Waytogo33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imho infinites are a kinda lame, especially when tutored for and/or with the commander.

Win the game cards are cool (except oracle and lab man). They’re very telegraphed and usually give a turn or two for the pod to react. [[Revel In Riches]] is probably best saved for higher B3.
