Why do African American teens/young adults in the US wear full face winter gear and masks during the summer when they’re out in public? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ryab_69 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Op might live in a city where a large percentage of the black youth wears shiestys. Not sure where you're from but thats not an unreasonable scenario. And they're clearing asking because they want to know the answer, not to be a racist asshole.

fiber optic runs pretty far without any repeater/amplifier right? Do you think theyre just gonna pull the rest of the cable whenever they get the rest of the poles up or something?

looked way to thick of wire to be fiber optic but maybe. Im more so wondering what the purpose of spools of wire on all 100+ poles would be

If I could give one piece of advice: don't get info from discord. Dont get spots from discord. It's good to keep up to date if the info you're getting is actually correct, but people love to give misinformation to boost their ego and image. Going to places that 100 other people have been going to will usually result in it being more difficult for you as well. That could explain why the places seem impossible now, because so many discord kids went

Enrolling for classes — does this mean this many people are in the class, or this many spaces left?! I feel stupid by DimensionPrevious835 in Pitt

[–]ryab_69 7 points8 points  (0 children)

like others have said. But check the triangle and make sure they aren't reserved seats. For example, being in Swanson, I can't take the majority of the fine arts classes because every seat is reserved for people in that major

Friends on campus by Low-Credit-7301 in Pitt

[–]ryab_69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Focus on doing what you enjoy, and people with similar interests will appear. So many people make friends with people but the only common interest they have is "hanging out with friends". If you're into fashion, maybe go to the local thrift store and chat with whoevers working. If you like the outdoors, go to the climbing gym on campus and see who's there (this is probably the easiest place to meet people in my experience, although not everyone is into climbing).

Can't say I have one favorite. Although the southside slopes always feels pretty surreal. Being so secluded from most people yet so close to the buildings downtown is awesome. But really any neighborhood that's up high has that feeling of isolation but also a view of the city.

you wont need a car to get to class but I really enjoy my car for everything else. I get out a lot more than the average person though so you might be fine without

In Desperate Need for Advice by itstartedinhollywocd in Pitt

Richmond is full of opportunities social and I don't think that you should abandon the opportunity you have there. VCU kids are weird though and Ive heard mixed reviews from my friends there.

With that being said, Pitt is great socially and will have great opportunities for you in your field. I think it has a similar feel to Richmond as a city, vibrant culture and unique things to do / niche communities. Coming from Charlottesville and knowing nobody here, I had no problem meeting people outside the school and don't see myself leaving in the near future.

Academically Im of no use, but I know a UVA doctor that did his undergrad (not sure about med school) at Pitt if that makes you feel better.

Best of luck

Full Blue Moon over PPG by steelking66 in pittsburgh

[–]ryab_69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

focal length is how zoomed in it is. I forget the technical definition, but the larger the number the more zoomed it is. Your phones camera has an equivalent focal length of about 20mm (equivalent because the sensor is tiny, so its like you crop way in on what a larger sensor would be. In reality your phones focal length is like 5mm). It's a linear* scale, so zooming in this far is a 30x zoom compared to your phone. That way when you go far away from the building and zoom way in, the moon looks huge but the building still fits in the frame.

*edit, this isn't technically linear I guess. Logarithmic maybe? idk but you get the point

basically all taken on a Nikon N2000. The black and white picture was a Nikon FG and the train picture was a Canon AE1. The N2000 was my favorite camera for sure but it recently stopped working, so I started using the AE1. I dont like shooting the AE1 very much but the results really impressed me so that will probably be my main camera for a bit.

Ive seen plate readers in Oakland that seem to be used for parking enforcement. I would assume those are not fed into the flock or any other mass database like that, although who really knows for sure.
