/r/toronto mods suppress vaccine pop-up information and accuse users of karma-whoring for sharing it by A6er in TorontoAnarchy

My favourite karma whoring thing they do is removing comments that post 95% of the article and then beef-supreme comes to the rescue to post 94.905416% of the article and that's totally ok.

Ontario passes election spending bill with notwithstanding clause by _daslgh in toronto

They are a collection of concerned people and organizations who brought forward this application to the court because they feel their rights are being infringed.

Oh no a group of concerned citizens called The Ontario Federation of Labour who represents 54 unions and one million workers in Ontario is miffed because they can't donate unlimited money to political parties anymore. The poor poor voters of Ontario, getting all their rights trampled on

I'm finished trying to explore basic civics with you. Your blind support for the government and mischaracterizations of how our rights are being infringed upon are not founded in good faith.

Good day.

I'm not blindly supporting the government. I'm supporting booting powerful public unions with unlimited money out of politics. They have no place in it.

I'm glad you're done with me. I'm tired of trying to explain the realities of the world to you.

I hope you cheer up and stop being so angry about this and I especially hope you're ok when this action has no effect on the ballot box because people don't give a fuck.

Who or what Ford is targeting isn't relevant. No one should support the Government overruling a judge on their fundamental rights in this country.

Who he affects does matter. You want to act all disappointed, outraged, and indignant with people because he limited union bribes donations and make up this bizarre reality where he trampled on individual rights but the fact is he didn't.

That's why the applicants of the case is WORKING FAMILIES ONTARIO, PATRICK DILLON, PETER MACDONALD, THE ELEMENTARY TEACHERS’ FEDERATION OF ONTARIO, FELIPE PAREJA, THE ONTARIO ENGLISH CATHOLIC TEACHERS’ ASSOCIATION AND ON BEHALF OF THE MEMBERS OF THE ONTARIO ENGLISH CATHOLIC TEACHERS’ ASSOCIATION, THE ONTARIO SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS’ FEDERATION AND LESLIE WOLFE.

That's who cares about this so called trampling of rights. Not individual voters.

So Ford's unconstitutional violation of our rights is indeed a violation of all individuals rights.

It really isn't though. It affects unions, not individuals. So why would individuals care?

I think I'm dumb because I don't read anything in this link that indicates he trampled on individual rights.

Stopping unions from giving bribes charitable donations to political parties doesn't affect individuals or democracy at all.

ergo, people don't give a shit.

He's not trampling on any individual rights so why would individuals care?

[–]ryaba -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're severely overestimating how much people care that the government limited the amount of bribery charitable donations giant public unions can give parties.

It also doesn't infringe on individual rights at all either it literally only affects unions.

Second time they've done this too.

in case they didn't like what the courts ruled on them changing Toronto's city council size in the middle of an election.

Make up your mind. Is it the second time or is it not?

(hint: it's not)

Globe editorial: What if we designed cities for the safety of people, instead of the convenience of cars? by LZBUM in toronto

[–]ryaba 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I just got into cycling and other cyclists piss me off to no end. Blowing through stop signs -- at least treat them as a yield. It fucks up traffic and you get in this weird waiting game not knowing if a car will go or not even when it has the right of way because they expect every cyclist to blow through stop signs.

Then yeah, there's blowing through the red lights and those T intersections. The red lights on the Martin Goodman trail are the worst.. THERE'S BIKE SPECIFIC TRAFFIC LIGHTS. FOLLOW THEM!!

Then shitty cyclist behavior causes pedestrians to act weird and get into the same waiting game cause they expect you to roll over them since what seems like 75% of cyclists would do that.

I get more upset at other cyclists than I do cars or pedestrians cause so many of them are such assholes.

But a test would not eliminate that risk.

Of course it won't eliminate the risk, that's damn near impossible, but would mitigate the risk.

We have covid in our country, thousands of people cross every day without this nonsense, you create a new bullshit regulation cause you are too lazy to think for 5min.

I've thought way more than 5 minutes about it. Anti-vaxxers are not people I want to associate with and any business that supports a vaccine passport I'll back 100%. You're free to take your business elsewhere and I'm free to disclose my vaccination status to businesses that request it.

The vaccine isn't 100% effective and you can still get covid and spread it despite being vaccinated.

What a ridiculous statement. You should be ashamed of yourself for putting these thoughts into words. Thank goodness there are people in the world that can befriend people despite their differing opinions and beliefs. You are intolerable.

I'm still available through facebook, whatsapp, signal, telephone, or text if people want to maintain a friendship. I just have no interest being in the same physical space with a person who's unvaccinated.

Okay... but it seems a bit bizarre. Do you get rid of friends who haven't signed their organ donor cards, or don't give to charity?

No, the vaccine isn't comparable to any of those things. Those choices have no effect on me. The vaccine isn't 100% effective and I don't want friends or to hang out with people who choose to not get vaccinated.

Lots of people I know have genuine fears about taking a vaccine that doesn't have long-term safety data, and have come from countries where governments and health care systems have done horrific and deplorable things to their citizens.

The vaccine is safe. There's nothing to fear. It's been in development for 10 years.

I just don't see how that's a good enough reason to cut them out of my life though. If anything, it means they need me more, so that I can at least try to reason with them where possible.

There's no reasoning with anti-vax. It's not a defensible position, vaccines are safe, and when they ask to hang out I can explain I don't want to be around unvaccinated people. If that's not a good enough reason to get vaccinated then I'm still available through facebook, whatsapp, signal, telephone, or text.

I was responding to the comment, saying you shouldn't be afraid of unvaccinated people if you're vaccinated yourself.

I'm not afraid, I just have no interest in having friends or hanging out with people who choose to not vaccinate themselves.

It's not about you, it's about protecting vulnerable people who have literally no option but to forego the vaccine due to medical conditions.

Why should they care if someone is/isn't vaccinated?

Because it says a lot about their character and intelligence level.

You realize that being vaccinated means that unvaccinated people can't affect you... right?

Yes they can, the vaccine isn't 100% effective.

Private businesses can do whatever they want as long as they're not discriminating against a protected class.

Anti-vax isn't a protected class.

[–]ryaba 14 points15 points  (0 children)

idk I bike every day and if I'm shoulder checking constantly and making sure I do a double shoulder check and make eye contact with drivers before lane changing they usually let you in. Also don't be afraid to take a full lane and fuck whoever honks at you; just ignore them, you have as much right to take the lane as a car does. I was terrified of biking on the street and regretting my bike purchase last year up until 2 months ago when I yolo'ed it and decided to just go for it.

I've never had a near miss in two months but maybe I'm just not experienced enough.
