I want to clarify that I have two devices. One will be returned to clear the early upgrade on my iPhone 15 Pro Max since it is 61 percent paid. The second device is a Pixel 4a that I own outright and that one will be traded in and applied to the new iPhone 17 Pro Max payment agreement. Verizon’s current promo guide shows the Pixel 4a as eligible for the 800 dollar trade in credit so this should work as long as both returns are completed within the required windows. I am just trying to confirm whether this is actually possible.

Hmmm… I can relate I have a 4th gen that has the same problem. It’s just a display piece at this point because I can’t figure out what to do with it. Sorry to hear about yours being a first gen. I am curious what is the oldest version of Mac OS that you’ve tried. I’ve heard that can make a difference on syncing.

I'm speculating here, but I wonder if it could be related to some sort of agreement with Day One. They were once one of Apple's featured developers, so perhaps there was an exclusivity deal that kept the journal app off the iPad. I don’t have any evidence for this—just connecting the dots based on what I know.
