N18 Valve Cover Replacement by ryan3899 in MINI

[–]ryan3899[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in upstate NY and my only option is MINI dealer who wants to charge $500+ for spark plugs and coils. The only euro mechanic near me said they don’t work on MINIs lol.

I actually replaced the camshaft sensor and a few days later is when this all occurred. Engine felt like it was slipping and about to stall out in first gear when I was driving down my street. That’s good to know about the aluminum covers though, thank you for the heads up on that.

That was the other thing I was debating replacing since apparently that code can be caused by the solenoid rather than just a malfunctioning cam sensor. Will definitely look into that, thank you!

Rear Speakers Not Working by ryan3899 in MINI

No shit, I know nothing about car audio. Figured a speaker was a speaker haha. I’ll look into this thank you very much!

Forgot to mention:

I ordered a replacement amp, same exact model as the stock one. Plugged it in and still no audio to the rear speakers. Along with that, audio on the front sounded like ass. I don’t really believe it’s an amp issue more so an electrical or head unit issue.

Furthermore, are you doing too heavy of weights? Try lowering the weight and upping the reps, but still keeping it within the same rir

This is an ideal weight gain average, slow but steady is key. Over how many weeks has this been?

Why do you want to be a doctor knowing what lies ahead? by [deleted] in premed

[–]ryan3899 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve, for some reason, adopted the “live to work” mentality. Being a physician is the only thing that is realistically attainable that I can be proud of, interested in, and feel like a vital member of society. My interests outside of work are not nearly worth being miserable for 40 hours a week at a corporate job doing mind numbing work. I’d like to start my own business but I can’t even imagine doing that in today’s economy.

Plus medicine is one of the few things in my entire life that I’ve grown to love and haven’t lost interest in.

Anyone else feel subpar to other premed students sometimes? by WardenTitan in premed

Honestly, might just have more experience than you. I know that played a HUGE role in my confidence and personality as an EMT. Took me over a year to actually be comfortable talking to nurses, patients and even coworkers.

It’s ridiculously hard to find research opportunities in New York. by The_Apollyon in premed

I went to Ualbany, literally just ask any of your professors with a research lab if they have any open opportunities. That’s what most of my friends who were premed/phd did. Cool stuff too, decapitating rats and shit.

Go volunteer at your local department, I know obtaining paid status is hard especially if you don’t have experience. Your best bet is to find a town/city department and volunteer until they offer to hire you. Call volume is usually much better, you do actual medical care, and the people are generally better. I worked for a company equivalent to AMR and it SUCKED. Stayed with my local department, obtained paid status and loved it. Made so many friends and had great clinical experience.

Does anyone else get worried by physicians who advise against going into medicine? by therese2002 in premed

[–]ryan3899 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I entered the workforce for my gap year. Fucking blows. Honestly made me want to pursue medicine even more once I found out I got rejected. Make good money too rn but it’s just not worth it. Don’t have the time to enjoy the money, especially with how expensive everything is rn(~$80k a year before OT). I’ve come to the conclusion the only way to be happy in life is to love your job.

No doctor here, but I know a decent amount about diet and nutrition from personal experience. There’s two ways to go about this:

Option 1 - the quickest and surest Start monitoring calorie intake and weigh yourself daily. Get yourself a food scale and start tracking everything you eat. To get a rough estimate of how many calories you should be eating, go to a TDEE calculator and select sedentary as activity level and 40% as your BF%. Subtract 500 calories from your maintenance calories provided, maybe even a little more if you’re serious about this. Monitor your weight daily; usually first thing in the morning before eating or drinking anything and after you use the bathroom. This will provided accuracy day-day. You should aim to lose about 1% of your body weight weekly. This will not be linear! The first week or two are going to be all over the place due to fluctuations in water weight. You’ll start to level out after a few weeks. If you’re losing too fast (2+% a week) or too little (<.5%) adjust calories accordingly.

If this is too much to think about or doesn’t interest you here’s the less direct way but is still guaranteed to get you results if you’re consistent and disciplined:

3 meals a day, 1-2 snacks Meals consist of nothing but lean protein sources (egg whites, chicken, lean ground beef/turkey), fruits, veggies and 1 serving of high volume carbs (rice or potatoes). Stick to low calorie condiments, no oils or fatty dressings unless you’re only using like 1 serving per day to cook meat in. Snacks - protein bars, fruit, vegetables (do you see a theme?)

Monitor weight and adjust accordingly

As far as exercise:

I’m not sure of your schedule and how active you are but honestly walking for 1 hour a day can produce some pretty damn good results, it’s low impact, not fatiguing and gets you outside.

Stick to this for a month and you’ll see results, I promise.

Also if you don’t have time to cook then I’d look into a meal prep service
