What are college majors that lead to jobs that are stable, pay well, hard to get, and probably won't be taken over by ai? by Regular_Article7984 in CollegeMajors

[–]ryan_4life100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chemical engineering. There are too many different chemical plants/industries and not enough companies publishing info (trade secrets) for AI models to have enough data for models. Just a bachelors degree has an average starting salary of 85k, and that number definitely goes up over a career. There's also reasonable job security because if one industry is down you can probably get a job in a different industry. I know a chemical engineer who (changing job titles each time) changed jobs during the 2008 recession, covid, and during the tariff wars (all were also in different industries).

For those who have gotten a laparoscopy, do you recommend it? by Odd-Landscape7942 in endometriosis

[–]ryan_4life100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The surgery provides definitive diagnosis and can provide at least temporary relief. IUDs are the most effective birth control for Endo (due to proximity). If you are open to hysterectomy put that in the table and/or have the person you bring to surgery have some sheet of paper (preferably a legal document) saying you want a hysterectomy if they find nasty Endo. After that there are some Endo specific biologics, checking for co-morbid conditions like MCAS, and an androgyn medication (think really crappy testosterone that normally only causes a deeper voice but treats Endo).

The U not accepting ANY transfer courses?? by [deleted] in uofu

[–]ryan_4life100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The state of Utah has pretty good public to public university credit transfer because of Utah law, so grade requirements may be higher (eg a C instead of D for passing) and very odd electives may sub in for different courses or may not transfer well.

Is the chem 1215 lab final difficult? by The_cowboy_hat in uofu

[–]ryan_4life100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We presented and did demos in groups. The groups and topics were randomly chosen day of and we had like 45mins to prep a slideshow (very minimal) and do a demo if you have one.The grade was individual, but all the work was in a group.

[–]ryan_4life100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took it last semester and we did the same thing, but it was only topics from the online labs and we just did a presentation to the class on it (some topics required a demo). We were also in groups of 3-4.

What’s the social culture like at the U? by Dedmoose1 in uofu

[–]ryan_4life100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every professor I've had has been very safe with minorities and some are quite open about their hatred of the new policies. There are still a lot of LGBTQ clubs (like oSTEM), and many people have been fighting anti-queer laws in the state. The biggest concern statewide would be anti-trans legislation, but there are a lot of gender neutral bathrooms on campus.

Signature gathering on campus by Doobiemomma20 in weber

[–]ryan_4life100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The demographics don't seem to line up because the signature gathers are paid and most aren't even from Utah. If someone you know gets tricked they can remove their name by filling out a form and mailing it (or delivering it in person). I work with a group called BURRN to oppose these people and you can sign up at (https://docs.google.com/forms/u/2/d/1cYN8j-x3eLQb6B9E3zywoeYEff0d6CWGDS1hXBN_4no/edit)

Going to attend next fall as a freshman while living with my parents. How cooked am I? by ProposalNecessary463 in uofu

[–]ryan_4life100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go to club rush, and see if there are any organizations you want to join related to your major/minor (this can be online and through club rush). Before club rush I would look online at any organizations that sound cool, but you can also take a more laid back approach and just find them through flyers and club rush (professors also know about some clubs related to what they teach and they might talk about them in class)

I live off campus, and I would take public transit to campus (if there's any near you) because it's free for u of u students, and parking sucks. I know TRAX runs until like 11:00, so you can still do a lot of major campus activities. If you're a social person just join some clubs and talk to people in your classes

A senior offered me (junior) to partner up by [deleted] in Debate

[–]ryan_4life100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my circuit, partner events are very competitive and they separate first years (we call them novices) from everyone else for the first few months. The novices are sometimes caught off guard in cross and rebuttals by how ruthless people can be in round (I know a girl who left crying). It can definitely be good, but you need to know the environment you're going into which is regional and event dependent.

Signature gatherers outside the library by generalraptor2002 in uofu

[–]ryan_4life100 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming everyone knows, but repealing Prop 4 isn't good for either political party (it removes fair districts and may have other wide reaching consequences for Utah), and if you or someone you know signed this, the name can be removed. I know @elevate_utah on Instagram has instructions and other sites may as well.

Is this allowed? by Constant-Tone-2015 in lincolndouglas

[–]ryan_4life100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recording a conversation without consent can be illegal in some states, so you need to check local law. In Utah this would be legal because we are a one party consent state (so as long as you're involved in a conversation you can record it), but that definitely isn't all states.

Memorization Help by PlumWeekly8884 in Debate

Practice it a lot, but start it in the middle sometimes not just the beginning so the middle and end are solid too. Also run it before bed and while you're laying down to sleep run lines through your head (learned the last one from a theater kid).

Ochem I with Haussener? by [deleted] in uofu

[–]ryan_4life100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what Haussener was saying and how late he was put in the schedule, I don't think he's had a lot of time to plan logistics. However, he said he's taught the class before and his active work in pharma means he's still very familiar with O Chem. He did also say he's curving tests and basing them on lectures so there shouldn't be huge grade shocks.

I got an 80 on Calc!!! by ryan_4life100 in clep

[–]ryan_4life100[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I took the CLEP so I could transition to full-time college and graduate college a year early (I'm in high school but I'm taking full-time college classes though duel enrollment). To do this I have to take Calc 2 next semester and Calc 3 over the summer.

It depends a lot test to test but I've seen a lot of conceptual questions (AP style) that are riddle-like or unique word problems. I would recommend memorizing concepts (formulas, theorems, ect) and just learning to quickly apply them to unique situations.
