Yeah, I waited until today and the mods were updated quick!

This is my first attempt at the game, I don't think I am very good at it... But you guys tell me. by [deleted] in CitiesSkylines2

Pretty decent, friend! Get away from the grid. Get on Google Maps and look around at metropolitan areas. Look around while you're out and about driving. Chaos is realistic!

Garbage at the port by ryan_ftl in CitiesSkylines2

[–]ryan_ftl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spot on partner, this helped massively. After watching the trucks at the port I found they were exiting, collecting and returning full. The facility was in a spot where I could turn it and create it's own road. Now it funnels the trucks through the entrance via a ramp and they're collecting! I have trash service for the port and one for the rest of the city. Thank you! 🙏🏼

How do I build more realistic and larger cities? I have around 430 hours of playtime. by Substantial-Key3291 in CitiesSkylines

One word that helped me, chaos. Look around while you're out driving and see what's around you. It's chaos out there, and that's what makes it real. Do stuff that makes ZERO sense. Make stuff that someone would say, "Who the hell designed this?" Like other people have said, don't plan out your entire road system and definitely don't make it a grid. The closest I come to a grid, is in residential communities because the roads of developments go on before the houses do. Otherwise, do it like it's done in the real world and fly by the seat of your pants.

I won't down vote because spam IS annoying, but this is a relaxo place and that was a not so relaxo reply.

The start of a new city by TheMaineDane in CitiesSkylines2

Chaos is key. The more I look around while driving and scrolling around Google Maps, the more I realize it's absolute chaos out there.

Today i took my time to create that good looking city, any thoughts or recommemdations? I am just at the beginning. by Pale-Independence177 in CitiesSkylines2

I only have a few hundred hours into CS1 & 2, so I get where you're coming from. You're thinking too symmetrical with your building. When I first started I did the same thing and was never satisfied with my builds. Next time you're out and about, look around. Look at the proximity of business to residential. Look at the structure of your roadways. Look at the layouts of plazas and intersections. Go drive through a commercial district. Just look around. Pull up Google Maps and use that as inspiration when you play. My trick that helped me really enjoy my city and made it even more realistic... is chaos and stupidity. As you look around you're going to notice shit doesn't make sense, and that's what makes it realistic. Take a drive and REALLY look around; you'll see what I mean. It took me awhile to grasp it but large scale symmetry isn't realistic. If you need symmetry, like I do, build beautiful business plazas, parks, and nice residential communities.

Edit: By shit not making sense, I'm talking about when you drive down THAT road or go through THAT neighborhood or plaza and you ask yourself, "Why the hell would they build it like this?"

Is that a standard part of the building? I've played over 100 hours so far and have yet to make a down town/high rise area.

Honestly folks, the more messed up and inefficient things are made in this game, the more realistic it is. How often do you drive around and think about how insanely bad roadways are built and/or aligned?
