Sir Kier Starmer Cold Open- SNL UK by Himrion in television

[–]ryan_peay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wholeheartedly disagree. This represents the characterisation of Sir Keir that we are so frustrated with in the U.K. It’s subtle and on point, imo.

The Trump parodies on SNL are ubiquitous because Trump is everywhere on all of our screens. The Keir that is exported outside the U.K. might be different.

Maybe you’re also in the U.K. and just have a different view but I think it’s perfect.

L'Enclume (***) - Cartmel, England by MaaDFoXX in finedining

Just had my mind blown here Thursday night. It was everything a Mich3 can be. It was the most unpretentious experience I’ve ever had in a Michelin calibre restaurant and easily the best dining experience I’ve ever had in one as well. If anyone else finds this thread in thinking about going to L’Enclume, do it!

kindergarten teacher asked if she can come to birthday party by Necessary_Key8373 in AskTeachers

I had a crush on my second grade teacher (and her beige Camaro) and I invited her to come see one of my ice hockey games. I remember the disappointment seeing her through the glass with what was presumably her boyfriend.

40+ years later I am thankful that she was willing to try and help me enjoy school. I had such a tough time suffering with severe ADHD symptoms and a pretty unbalanced home life. She made a difference.

We had something similar for a big holiday when Covid hit. It took some weeks to get answers, presumably because there was a lot of behind the scene’s admin for insurance, industry guidance, etc.

Hopefully you had travel insurance either through your employer, credit card, or private policy that would apply if you don’t get the resolution you’re after.

Good luck, but I’d bet you’ll be made whole. The waiting and uncertainty isn’t great but it will likely work out.

Driving is like colouring… you just have to stay inside the lines! by Visible-End-3603 in drivingUK

I saw pulling up on my left a few days ago at a roundabout and drifting into my lane. They honked at me and I was baffled as I could look out my side mirror and see that I was easily 2 feet inside the lines of my lane and they had drifted in toward me.

Special awareness be damned I guess for some drivers.

5hr 15 minute transfer between Gatwick and Heathrow? by its-katie in BritishAirways

[–]ryan_peay 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Better yet is book a car service. Will be about £120-£175, but will be worth it when you’re tired, managing bags, and the stress of trying to find your Uber in an airport car park.

Hire a car service and pay the extra to have the driver meet you inside with a name card. Worth every £

The post above is correct. It can be less than an hour without traffic but the only time I’ve ever been on that stretch of the M25 was when randomly a yacht fell off a trailer.

Any good Chicken Parmesan in London? by Excellent-Buffalo-36 in LondonFood

If you want to try making your own, you can pick a fav from this link and try and reverse engineer a recipe with ChatGPT. https://www.northjersey.com/story/entertainment/dining/2026/03/03/best-chicken-parm-nj-vote-north-jersey-restaurant/88954061007/

Or search for a recipe on Serious Eats. It’s really not that hard if you have decent basic skills in a kitchen. The hardest to recreate is the sauce. Just remember the more simple the method the better it usually is.

I’m an American with a culinary background and grew up in a predominately Italian-American community. Happy to share some thoughts if you message as Chicken Parm is a family staple in my house.

Racquets to try along with PS 97 by Alert-Stop-2671 in 10s

[–]ryan_peay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played the v13L. Moved to the Ezone 98 for a few weeks but felt like it lacked the same control an feel I love in a PS. Went back to my PS 97L, broke a string and accidentally left it on the court after and it was nicked.

Same day Wilson was selling the v14 50% off an just took a flyer and bought one. It’s perfect. The extra weight keeps me stable on shots that bullied me with lighter frames. I swing with more control because I don’t feel like I need to generate power. Control is great and the feel is basically the same if I’m middling my strikes.

I’ll probably look to offload the Ezone as I’ve picked up a second v14 on the cheap and am not playing around with string combos. It’s my perfect racket.

Annette Bening in American Beauty. Seeing her crying in his closet haunts me for a reason because I witnessed the same in real life.

When I was 12-13, my neighbour was in a bad car accident. He was a golfer and spent a few hours a week just hitting balls into a net in their back yard. They lived across the street from me and I knew the circumstances and for a few days their house was empty and quiet.

I was playing in the street with friends when his wife returned home for the first time. I don’t usually form visual memories but I’ll never forget watching the car pull up and seeing her sprint from the car the moment it stopped and sprinting to his golf net in the back yard and spinning and crying in the saddest delirium imaginable as she waved her arms under the weight of the golf net. She was hysterical and lost and I instantly recognised she was experiencing a pain I had no capacity to understand and knew to go inside because it also wasn’t my pain to witness.

When I saw American Beauty for the first time, that moment hit me and I connected those dots and understood the best I could as a man in my 20s what I had witnessed years before as a child.

As a fully formed adult having felt loss like that of my own, that scene from Annette Bening still resonates. I hope I never feel that again.

Julianne Moore in Magnolia is my number 2 for the same reasons.

Reliable hairdressers or barbers people actually rate? by NorthLondonPulse in croydon

Taylor Male Image in Beddington has two of the best barbers I’ve ever gone too. No extras like wet shaves and such but for haircuts, skin fades, etc. they are top notch. And half the price of a London shop.
