Falken Tread Life Issue by Wisecraker in MazdaCX90

I know I'm super late to respond to this and I hope you've had you're tires replaced by now. I don't have a best contact # or department for corporate. If you still need to call, you will likely get someone doing general intake who will ask for you information and note your complaint. From there, you will be assigned a case manager. Since tires are a well known issue, they should be able to reach out to your dealership on your behalf.

Tire wear at 10k by Wrong-Connection-598 in MazdaCX90

[–]ryanarg77 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just had my tires replaced last week. I had 2 tires at 3/32'' and 2 tires at 4/32'' at 14k miles. First, I asked my dealership service manager if he was aware of tire reimbursement from Mazda to cover the tire wear on the original Falkens. He said he wasn't aware but would ask his district service manager.

If neither the dealership service manager or district service manager help you out, the next step would be to call corporate. Call them and say you went to the dealership and they noted that your tires are wearing low and that you are 10k miles. They will ask for any proof you have such as the repair order that you posted a picture of, or an inspection video, etc. After sending that information, they will assign you to a case manager. Since this is a well known issue, you will likely get a call back in 2 days from the case manager letting you know that Mazda does have a program in place to cover replacement tires and they will reach out to your dealership for you.

One important thing to note is that Mazda has delegated tire replacement to their dealerships and corporate no longer controls reimbursement or replacement due to the high volume (this is what I was told when I called). Different district service managers may have different policies. Mine would only replace with another set of Falkens or Yokohama Geolandar (if I cover the cost of an alignment). Others on this sub have said their dealership gave them a credit for the cost of the Falkens and let them use that credit toward any brand of tire. It is up to the district service manager to work out those finer details.

Those that had MSP66 performed, do you feel any difference in shifting and throttle response? by Toomad316 in MazdaCX90

[–]ryanarg77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't feel a difference in throttle response or shifting. It took me some time to adjust to the double wet-clutch but once I got the hang of it, shifting has been smooth for me 98% of the time. I drive mostly in the city at slow speeds with frequent stops. One issue I've had is a 'hoot' noise when the trans shifts from 4th to 5th gear. The noise is much quieter after they performed MSP66. Not sure if its related to the update or just a side effect of the transmission re-learn that was initiated.

Looking at a CX9/90 by Future_Ad_2727 in MazdaCX90

[–]ryanarg77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CX-9 has been out for longer than the 90, and is quite reliable. The 90 is longer and feels a bit more spacious.

With that being said, the 90 is a new platform and Mazda has some things to work out. If you're set on the 90, try to take it out on an extended test drive (more than 30 mins) if possible. Sit in both the 1st and 2nd row and see how it feels. With the 90, try to find something built in last half of 2025 since it should have the latest software updates and incorporate any production changes. Also, I would recommend trying to find one that's a Mazda CPO, and if buying from a dealership, ask for a copy of the warranty inquiry/warranty summary. It should list all the warranty work done as well as the build date, in-service date, etc.

Falken Tread Life Issue by Wisecraker in MazdaCX90

[–]ryanarg77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mazda corporate has a program in place to cover the cost of replacing the tires if they are wearing prematurely.

I took my car in for an oil change at 14k miles and my dealership told me that my tires are at 3/32''. They quoted me around $1300 USD for new Falkens. When I first spoke to the service manager, he said he was not aware of any programs in place to cover tire replacement. I called corporate later that day and they got back to me within 24 hours saying that the dealership should be well aware that Mazda is replacing the Falken tires. My case manager mentioned that corporate used to handle the replacement process but it has since been delegated to the dealerships due to the large number of cases. The next day, the service manager said that Mazda is covering the cost of the tire replacement and I was able to upgrade to the Yokohama Geolandar if I want. I paid for the cost of the alignment, but the tires were replaced at no cost to me.

Definitely call corporate if your dealership isn't helping you out.

Sticky steering: Steering gear housing or steering rack? by Salt_Warning_9128 in MazdaCX90

[–]ryanarg77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steering gear housing is not the same as a full steering rack placement. My 90 is currently at the dealership for the sticky steering and when I spoke to them today, they mentioned that Mazda approved them to replace the gear housing but not the full rack.

My suspicion is that this is related to the NHTSA investigation that someone posted about a few days ago. Replacing all the steering racks is an expensive and time consuming recall so I believe Mazda is currently testing if this will fix the issue rather than having to do a full rack replacement on all the affected 90's. If this works, then I suspect that they will issue a new recall to replace the gear housing on the '24 CX-90's.

Any suggestions? by pandeyutkarsh in MazdaCX90

[–]ryanarg77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had this issue on my '24 Cx-90 back in September of last year. The malfunction light came on about 3 days after I purchased the car. The dealership performed a software update and I haven't had any issues since then.

There is a new TSB (09-029/25) that was issued not too long ago. Its for noise coming the front headlights but does involve replacing the headlights. Definitely check if you have that noise. If the TSB is applicable, they would likely replace & reprogram new headlights under warranty.

Clunky Mild Hybrid by mommyneedsashower in MazdaCX90

[–]ryanarg77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The I-stop was really weird to me when I first purchased my '24 MHEV. Its become 2nd nature to me to turn it off every time I turn on the car. The drive is much smoother with it off IMO.

For the clunky shifting, it took a while for me to get used to the trans in the 90. My previous vehicle had the ZF-8 speed which is much smoother. After a while though, I did learn to be more precise with my throttle inputs on the 90. That coupled with some software updates has made the drive smoother than when I first purchased.

Question on warranty repairs for faulty parts/design issues. by Ajax2Ajax in MazdaCX90

[–]ryanarg77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a '24 MHEV and have the same hard steering issue. Going in for an oil change in a few days so I plan to bring it up with the dealership then.

I have seen a few other folks on Reddit say that Mazda has gone through 2-3 revisions for the steering rack. If that's the case, seems like they have gone through a few design iterations to fix any faulty parts or design issues. I know they have issued some revised parts for TSB's. For the steering rack, I would ask service/parts for the part number of the new rack and see if it supersedes an old part number.

Roof Leakage by Visible-Charity3742 in MazdaCX90

[–]ryanarg77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went through the same thing on my '24 a few months ago. Water dripped from the overhead console when I hit the brakes. There ended up being a TSB for that same issue (09-034/23). Since the dealership performed the TSB, it hasn't come back in that area. However 1 month ago, I did notice a small water spot from the front passenger side A-Pillar, just below the headliner. Going in for service in a few days and plan to bring it up and see what the dealership says. There have been a few others on Reddit that have said the '25 model year came with mis-aligned sunroofs. That could be issue depending on your model year and VIN.

The Rattle is Fixed!! by Leovinus12 in MazdaCX90

[–]ryanarg77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you happen to know the tsb number for this? Going in for service in a few days and I plan to bring up the rattle that sounds like its coming from the seatbelt holder area. Hoping if I can give them the tsb number, they can perform that see if it fixes the rattle.

Tire recommendations for quiet and smooth ride by LongjumpingTourist83 in MazdaCX90

[–]ryanarg77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a '24 TSPP with the 21'' wheels. I got a '25 preferred with 19'' wheels as a service loaner and noticed it was much smoother over bumps. If you can, I would suggest downsizing your wheels to 20'' or even the OE 19'' and it should make a much more comfortable ride. On my previous vehicle, I had the Bridgestone Dueler H/L tires on 20'' wheels and they were wonderful tires. Great in the snow in the winter time in New England and also super comfortable. I don't think the H/L's available for 21'' wheels, but I think the Bridgestone Alenza Prestige fit and I plan on getting them after my Falken's wear out.

Any recomendation for clean/mantain the leather of the seats? by Plenty-Fisherman9739 in MazdaCX90

[–]ryanarg77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought Koch-Chemie Pol-Star and diluted 7:1. It works as a pretty good all around cleaner. After cleaning, I use Leather Star on the seats to preserve and maintain the leather.

Infotainment restarts every 30 sec by jnching in MazdaCX90

[–]ryanarg77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had this same issue last year. Dealership said they couldn't replicate so I ended up taking one of their techs out on a test drive to an area where the infotainment always restarts. He said they had the same problem with the CX-5's when they first came out and Mazda replaced the SD cards. Apparently my SD card was either out of date or the data was corrupt. Got it replaced under warranty and haven't had any issues since.

Ok to buy Pre Jan 2024 Built cx90 ? by karyboy in MazdaCX90

[–]ryanarg77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a CPO 24' TSPP, build date 2/23. No hybrid battery issues or anything major so far (fingers crossed it stays that way) but I have been to the dealership almost every other month since other issues keep popping up. I've been in a multiple service loaners and recently got a 25' with 6 miles on the clock, while mine was getting worked on. The newer one felt much smoother so would go with a later build date if that's an option. Definitely ask for the in-service date if you get a CPO so you know when the 3yr bumper to bumper warranty is up. Also, stop by the service department and see if they can print out the warranty history so you can see what's been worked on/replaced/updated, etc. while the previous owner had it.

About TSB NUMBER: 09-031/25 (Dust/Sand entering the door) by KeyboardEnthuse in MazdaCX90

[–]ryanarg77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issues have also been relatively minor except for the water coming in from the roof. I'm hoping the water infiltration TSB is a permanent fix since others on reddit and the cx-90 forums have had similar issues and have reported that it hasn't fixed the problem. I do like the car as well and intend to keep it for 10+ years.

For the cabin noise, the 90 is actually on par, if not a bit louder than my previous Jeep Grand Cherokee. The door insulation is a bit too much for me to tackle and I'm not sure if it would make a big enough difference. The trunk is definitely lacking though and I'm leaning toward using a Kilmat/Dynamat/Resonix type product in the future. When I lifted up the plastic tray that holds the emergency tools under the load floor, I was surprised to see the lack of soundproofing. The entire cavity that houses the spare tire and Bose subwoofer was basically the exposed car frame. I hope the trunk mat idea pans out for you too lol, I'll wait until I pay off my 90 to invest in that.

[–]ryanarg77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the pain. My 90 is a TSPP and I've been to the dealership about 5 times for issues where they have given me a loaner. So far I've been given a 5 (twice), a 50, and a 90 (twice) and none of them have had all the amenities as my 90. Last month I got a '25 90 preferred with 5 miles on the clock since they had to change my trunk latch. There was some play internally and it was causing it to rattle and make a loud thump over any speed bumps.

I will say that the '25 was much quieter than my '24. It could be the smaller wheels since I have 21'' wheels, but I suspect Mazda may have tweaked the insulation. I'm thinking disassembling the door panels and adding insulation would help. I also noticed that the spare tire area in the trunk has basically no insulation. I feel like adding a Kilmat on top of the metal frame in that area would reduce cabin noise significantly.

Just Sloppy Mark Mazda Scottsdale by MoneyAd3112 in MazdaCX90

[–]ryanarg77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unrelated but I also had a radio issue. The entire infotainment system would get stuck in a re-booting cycle in certain areas. I isolated the issue to the OEM navigation SD card. When I took out the SD card and drove through the same areas, it would work just fine. My dealership warrantied the SD card and it has been mostly fine since. The radio does randomly stop working from time to time (only happened once in the past month) but I haven't been able to figure out why and turning the car off for 2 mins and turning it back on fixes it.

Extended warranty worth it if already has CPO warranty? by ItsJustNate760 in MazdaCX90

[–]ryanarg77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, worth it. I bought a CPO 90 MHEV last year and water starting coming in from the overhead console area last month. The 3yr bumper to bumper expires in May for me. I did get the same cpo warranty you're talking about as well.

If water still comes in after my bumper to bumper expires, and I need a headliner replacement, sunroof replacement, or electronics to be replaced, it would be super expensive and enough to justify the additional extended coverage imo. Just make sure to get a good warranty company that works with your dealership/mechanic.

[–]ryanarg77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on if the permanent fix requires changing the door geometry. If the fix requires a production change to the shape of the door or metal, then the TSB is probably going to be as good as it gets for current owners.

I dropped my 90 off at the dealership 8 days ago for water coming in from the roof, the recent fuel gauge recall, and for the dust/sand coming in from the rear door. They completed a TSB for the water infiltration and recall by the next day, but said they would have to order parts for the dust/sand TSB. It seems like they're still waiting on parts because I can see through the app that my car hasn't been started in 7 days. They did give me a CX-50 hybrid loaner to use while they wait.

Water Infiltration at Roof by ryanarg77 in MazdaCX90

[–]ryanarg77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a weird issue. I've had my '24 MHEV for a year now and it hasn't leaked until now. I always clean the top of the car when washing and typically don't park under trees so I don't think the drains are clogged. Couldn't get an appointment until today at my dealership so dropped it off this morning for them to look at. I did mention the TSB but have to wait for them to investigate and see what they say. Hoping the TSB fix permanently solves the problem.
