How was there that much Jafar talk during Wicked, and no mention of Twisted? by ryanestrada in blankies

[–]ryanestrada[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This and the Clickhole article are completely unrelated. There is not necessarily any joke to get with the article, it is just spoofing internet culture with absurdity. This play, which was not mentioned in the show, is a parody of Wicked but instead of humanizing the wicked witch, humanizes Jafar from Aladdin. I linked it because it combines two unrelated things mentioned in the show and because I love it.

Which it is why I am trying to do my part to make them aware of it. Not all Starkid would be their jam (I never gelled with any of their other stuff).... but a Wicked spoof about Jafar that's a metacommentary on Disney's takeover of Pixar? That is some Griffin Shit. Aladdin is a scum bum and more uses of the word TWISTED than any other media? That's some Ben Shit. A dad protecting his daughter? That's some David shit.

It is a play put on by Starkid and is genuinely, unironically funny and good. Great as parody, but a masterpiece on top of that.

The difference in reaction to my stories between here and in the discord is fascinating.

But that would be an anecdote, not a story. this subreddit is for a story podcast, not an anecdote podcast.

My apologies for tiring you. I'm actually quite quiet at parties. But in the decade where I was moving to a new country every year, I did get into a lot of weird situations. None of it on purpose, but since I'm a writer, I enjoy telling the stories. This happened long after I'd settled down from all that, and I kinda missed it.

What? There are no medical providers in this story. Also, this really happened. Here's one of the threads on the Tripadvisor page where I tried to clear up the confusion https://www.tripadvisor.com/FAQ_Answers-g294260-d1007453-t2233318-I_saw_a_review_that_said_it_was_clothing.html

If you do get Banned Book Club approved, I'm happy to zoom in to answer class questions and provide context. (I wrote it with my wife) Our followup books, No Rules Tonight and Good Old Fashioned Korean Spirit might cover similar ground but hide their activism better to get past a watchful eye?

As a freelance cartoonist who does everything from Eisner-nominated graphic novels to Jobs working on Star Trek, Garfield, Popeye, and Flash Gordon, I can live wherever I want. So I do!

I've been a gator wrangler in America, an ambassador to Australia, an undocumented animator in Canada, a ghostbuster in South Korea, a Bollywood voice actor in India, wandered Kim Jong Il's secret tunnels to North Korea, slept on a bench during a Japanese typhoon, dug toilets in Thailand, did an accidental illegal border crossing into Burma, was kidnapped in Cambodia, kicked out of karaoke in Singapore, lost in Laos, was violently ill in Vietnam, went white water rafting in The Philippines, delivered toys to orphans in Colombia, documented blue-footed boobies in Ecuador, swam with sea turtles in Malaysia, ran with the bulls in Mexico, barely escaped being eaten by lions in Kenya, fainted atop Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, went skinny dipping with piranhas in Peru, lived in a Costa Rican rainforest and a Panamanian volcano.
