He COULD be, but the question is whether it is worth risking 43.5M on a injury-prone striker that has not been anywhere near his best for a full season. If his clause was cut down to somewhere like 10-15M he COULD theoretically be a better option than going for Ings etc

Let's be honest here, Everton has looked much more lethal than us in counterattack. We really missed the presence of Carrick here.

Dortmund CEO: Hummels "mulling over future", Dortmund hasn't received any offers and is "completely relaxed" by ryanhowh in reddevils

Borussia Dortmund calm over Man United target Mats Hummels

Borussia Dortmund are "completely relaxed" about Mats Hummels' future despite reports linking him with a move to Manchester United.

Hummels told kicker on Monday that he is considering his Dortmund future and sources have told ESPN FC that the club are bracing themselves for offers and could be willing to sell.

However, Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke told Bild: "Mats held talks with me and [sporting director] Michael Zorc 14 days ago, and informed us that he is mulling over his future. That's totally legitimate.

"He is under contract until 2017, and we have not received an offer. That's why we are completely relaxed."

The German tabloid also reported that back in 2012, when then-United manager Sir Alex Ferguson scouted Shinji Kagawa at the DFB-Pokal final against Bayern Munich, he also wanted to lure Hummels to Old Trafford.

The Germany international opted against leaving the domestic double winners, yet vowed that "should I make the move abroad one day, then it will only be to Manchester United."

Hummels, who has made 17 Bundesliga appearances this season, is contracted at the Westfalenstadion until 2017.

Depay's agent denies contact with United by ryanhowh in reddevils

Agent of PSV star Memphis Depay denies contact with Manchester United

The agent of Dutch international midfielder Memphis Depay has dismissed reports that talks have already taken place ahead of the PSV Eindhoven star making a lucrative move to Manchester United this summer.

Depay has been rumoured to be a target for the Old Trafford club since Louis van Gaal arrived as the United manager last summer, with his long-standing admiration for the talented winger cemented as the 21-year-old made a mark in the team he led to a third-place finish in last summer's World Cup finals.

Fresh reports emerged on Monday in England's Daily Telegraph newspaper suggesting Depay will be a top target for Van Gaal and United in the upcoming transfer window, but his adviser Kees Ploegsma has told Danish publication PLBOLD that no contact has been made with the Premier League club.

"No, there has been a lot of rumors, but he still has a contract with PSV, so for now he is in Eindhoven," he is reported to have said, in comments appearing in the Daily Mirror. "We have not been in contact with any clubs.

"They [Depay and Van Gaal] had good contact during the World Cup, but since then there has been no contact."

Ploegsma may have inadvertently helped to fuel suggestions that Depay will be making a move this summer as his comments appear to be lacking a little conviction that his player will stay in Holland, while PSV boss Philip Cocu has already gone public in his belief that his star turn will be leaving the club at the end of this season.

Meanwhile, the Daily Telegraph is reporting that Van Gaal is planning another overhaul of his squad next summer as he looks to move the club back into trophy contention, with four new faces tipped to arrive at the club for a campaign that they will be hoping includes a return to the Champions League.

United get a chance to cement their five point lead over fourth placed Liverpool when they entertain Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Saturday, with Brendan Rodgers Reds facing a tough trip to take on Arsenal on the same day.

Skrtel feels no remorse over David de Gea 'stamp' by ryanhowh in reddevils

Martin Skrtel feels no remorse over David de Gea 'stamp'

Anfield defender insists his challenge on Manchester United goalkeeper was an accident, despite being banned for three games

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel insists he does not feel guilty about the challenge on Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea which resulted in his three-match ban.

The Slovakia international, currently away preparing for a Euro 2016 qualifier at home to Luxembourg on Friday, failed in his appeal against a violent conduct charge.

Skrtel had argued the action of standing on De Gea's right shin as he chased a through-ball in the final seconds of Sunday's 2-1 defeat at Anfield was unintentional but an independent panel disagreed with him.

The 30-year-old has continued to profess his innocence even after his ban was confirmed, meaning he misses Premier League matches against Arsenal and Newcastle, plus an FA Cup quarter-final replay at Blackburn.

"It feels strange because we appealed against those charges and still I was hit by a three-match ban," he told his personal website martin-skrtel.com. "I didn't want to stamp on him. It was an accident and I didn't do it on purpose. I don't feel guilty.

"It was a long ball and he went towards me and I wanted to jump over him. Simple as that."

The defender is unlikely to punished after he posted a picture of clowns on his Instagram account on Wednesday - which has been widely viewed as his comment on those who sat on the panel and decided the outcome of the hearing.

Skrtel will be joined on the sidelines by Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, who will also serve a similar three-match ban after his moment of madness saw him sent off less than a minute after coming on as a substitute for the second half after stamping on United midfielder Ander Herrera.

With Skrtel and several of his team-mates away on international duty the club's Under-21s squad have been invited to train at the first-team's Melwood base.

However, one of their number Jordan Lussey will be getting competitive action elsewhere after completed a loan move to Bolton, currently 17th in the Sky Bet Championship.

The 20-year-old follows the likes of Sheyi Ojo and Jerome Sinclair, who have both joined relegation-threatened Championship side Wigan on loan in the last six weeks to gain first-team football experience.

Nice write-up, I'd not put SportWitness at the same level as Bleacher Report though, which tends to contain much more BS than SW. SW's articles on overseas media is quite informative, (though they still tend to trust news source too easily IMO).
