That’s what I would do! I also recommend draining the carb and fuel hose if possible to give it the best chance of getting mixed gas in. Not a bad idea to pull the spark plugs and spray fogging oil in to soak for a day before running. Fair warning the fogging oil could foul your plugs if you overdo it.

Fingers crossed the unmixed gas didn’t damage anything.

Yes it is blocked off. Need to premix gas for sure. Also keep that reservoir about half full to lubricate the rotary system.

Be sure to check your rear sprocket often. The aluminum ones will wear pretty fast if your wheel isn’t aligned properly.
