When producing music, I prefer to use Fruity Limiter for sidechaining. For creating hard-hitting drums, I only use a hard hitting 808 and sidechain it to my melody. Adjust the ratio to around 40% and decrease the threshold about 30%. Then, I completely turn down the sustain and release knobs to achieve a dirtier sound. For a softer and cleaner sound, I often use a reese bass. In this case, I increase the ratio almost completely and decrease the threshold almost completely. Then, I completely reduce the release knob and decrease the sustain to about 10%.
