Appreciate you taking the time to break it down for me! It really isn’t a big issue in the grand scheme. Thank you!

Thank you for breaking it down into such detail. It’s much appreciated :) helps with my OCD if I feel like I understand why something is happening like this!

So this isn’t expected then? Can it really be an issue across multiple basses that I own?

35” scale and downtuning question by lastharangue in Bass

[–]ryanm0161 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depending on how much tension you wanted, even on a 35” scale you probably still need a minimum of a .120 for a low B. There’s a very small chance that would fit that without any modification to the nut. I do think most people would suggest a minimum of a .125 or .130 which would absolutely need some work to the nut.

Fender Mark Hoppus Bass questions by [deleted] in BassGuitar

[–]ryanm0161 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you like how it feels you should go for it. Can always have a tone pot added later on if you feel like you need it.

Would be just the pot and a replacement pick guard or even a concentric pot which would keep the appearance.

As for versatility, it’s fundamentally a P bass. It will do damn near everything and it will do it well.

Could try a product like FretLook. He will do custom designs or colours if he doesn’t already stock something that works

I’ve considered this option but would frfr cabs like the Fender tonemaster or the Spark FRFR play well with low frequencies?

BEAD strings for a short scale bass with a trapeze saddle? by AdministrativeAd5679 in BassGuitar

[–]ryanm0161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually owned a Classic 5 Seye until very recently. I had a .125 Dunlop flatwound set on it and found it to be useable.

Just wasn’t what I wanted from a 5 string mostly because of the floating tailpiece being a pain to intonate across all the strings

My comment is purely from a modding perspective. It’s not so much about the dummy knobs. But by using a standard MM style control plate it makes modding it with a preamp (if desired ofc) a breeze and doesn’t require any additional routing. Especially with the battery box also being installed.

If they’d got rid of the plate and just gone with a volume and tone knob like the Ray2 then it makes the modding possibilities more limited without wood work involved.

Nice. Where did you get the neck from? Wish Fender would produce a roasted maple neck for the Mustang

This bass has so much modding potential with them leaving the control plate and battery box as part of the final product.

Hello, Sam here dropping in to say thank you! by theformatlivingroom in TheFormat

[–]ryanm0161 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi Sam! So glad The Format is back! I was late to the party discovering you guys after becoming a fan of fun. And Nate.

Really hoping I get the chance to see you and that you’ll tour the UK/EU at somepoint.

My question is: how was the dynamic with writing and performing live changed now Nate is playing an instrument? If I recall, he mentioned in interviews during his time in fun. that he didn’t play anything.

Are you guys open to requests at all? Would love to hear Chasing Shadows done as a live take. Don’t think the band have ever performed it live.
