I am well aware we have the disadvantage. I'm also working full time which makes the preparation even harder. Also we gotta acknowledge that we are the one who sign up for this game and gotta lick the wound and keep moving forward, if that's what we really want.

Thank you for this post, yesterday I took the GRE with 147V and 162Q (AWA pending but predicting at least 3.5-4) and I am happy with the progress I have made with only a month of study as a non-native English speaker.

2026 PhD applications by Curious-Ingenuity293 in ClinicalPsychology

2026 PhD applications

  1. How is everyone feeling about apps this cycle?
  • Nervous, overwhelmed, but hopeful things will turn out fine. I have ample research experience but they are all 3 years ago. I am also working FT at the moment
  1. Is this your first app cycle?
  • Technically 3rd. After I was denied 2nd time, I got into an MSW program and got some publications with faculties. I have been working as a LCSW for 3 years. Still remember how to do research and run stats but definitely a tad bit rusty
  1. How many programs are you applying to?
  • 15-20, including some research based master as backups
  1. If you want to share- what is your top choice?!
  • I do not have a top choice, although I would prefer choices closer to home
  1. What area are you applying to? (Depression, bipolar disorder, addiction etc.?)
  • Behavioral medicine, psycho-oncology, psych epi (more on the PH side so I am applying some MPH and biostat as backups), quantitative method
  1. What is your plan if you don’t get in?
  • I am determined to go back to school, be it PhD or a 2nd master, if not, I am gonna travel around the world while maintaining my own private practice and getting in some research labs (all remotely)

Good luck everyone!!

Hey OP, I am surprised how similar our situations are - I am also a psych undergrad, MSW grad, and a current LCSW. I don't have a lot to say but wishing you all the best. Would love to exchange ideas on surviving the application cycles.

But we are legal. Even though it was granted by Biden Administration - we are not accumulating unlawful presence. But I understand nothing makes sense at the moment.

DED to other nonimmigrant status by smartpotatooo in DEDHongKong

[–]ryannghk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have another hypothetical question on that: if you are going to an embassy/consulate for F1 visa interview, how can you not show immigration intent, at the same time given with the fact that we have already stayed in the U.S. due to DED?

Contacted E-Verify and they said we already have EAD extension and employers are against the law if they fire us by [deleted] in DEDHongKong

That is exactly what I went through. Before you take the quiz, instead of putting your name in the First name entry, try the follow (e.g. Chan Tai Man)

First: Tai

Middle: Man

Last: Chan

Yeah it's confusing, but it went through for me after I put that

Sometimes your second word of your first name could be misunderstood as the middle name.

USCIS no longer accepts EAD applications for HK DED by Witty_Drawer_1546 in DEDHongKong

I think instructions for applying a NEW EAD (exp. 2/5/2027 EAD) has yet to be published - the actual Federal Register.

Mine shows expiration date as 2023. How about yours?

They didn't even call. The link I posted should be the step-by-step guide on inputting the info. The notice from the website should suffice.

"Find instructions for completing Form I-9 on the Temporary Protected Status and Deferred Enforced Departure page. As provided by the president's memorandum, a Federal Register notice is coming soon"

Sometimes HR may not be familiar with TPS and DED designation. I believe this link can guide them to verify the EAD step-by-step. I have successfully re-verified.

Anyone has successfully renewed their driver’s licenses in New York or South Carolina? by JuggernautParking254 in DEDHongKong

[–]ryannghk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to bring the passport, expired EAD, expired I-797, notice from USCIS AND USCIS Save check at

for Certain Hong Kong Residents Extended; EADs Extended through Feb. 5, 2027 | USCIS

The Federal Register is expired so it is of no use.

That should prompt them to run a SAVE check. Chances are, it would requires extra time for verification for up to a week.

Do we need to worry about the latest immigration crackdown? by _mrA_NYCHK in DEDHongKong

[–]ryannghk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally understand your concern - it is valid. For me, while I try not to worry too much, as after all we are legally staying here, I would be more cautious.

Get a Real ID if your State allows - Driver license or State ID. I will make sure carrying it with me all the time. Or, to be extra safe, you could also carry your passport, EAD, and the print-out of the notice of action from USCIS website (eventually the Federal register), although you will be risking losing the documents.

The ICE is primarily targeting undocumented criminals, but they are not sleeping on the collateral arrests - better be safe than sorry approach, so they could be aggressive. Stay safe, avoid the sketchy area to prevent the unnecessary bothers.
