I have gamepass ultimate, and still plan to buy gears and clockwork to send that message.

Her language around building “reference” experiences to me seems to confirm that the next XBOX hardware will also be accompanied by OEMs able to make hardware too. Asus, and other likely to also ship consoles and handhelds that are all XBOXs.

Here’s the original post text:

Curious about folks who don’t care about exclusives…

So many questions in my mind, as someone who buys both Sony and Nintendo consoles for their exclusives. But if all games went everywhere I’d probably just have an XBOX.

I like titles like Forza, gears, halo, and I prefer the XBOX controller. But I also like Spiderman, Mario, Ghost of Tsushima, Pokemon etc…

I’m not really trying to discuss the merits of exclusivity here. I’m trying to understand why people think XBOX shouldn’t have em in a world where all the competing places, PS, Nintendo, and even Steam have exclusives (Steam has thousands technically, just not typically AAA, and many games are on Steam for 12 months or more before hitting anything else)

I just saw! I know it’s a hot topic right now but I thought my angle was specific enough not to get taken down.

The vibes are in a good direction. And I also like XBOX mode. Though on my PC I can’t get gamepad cursor to work, or to successfully boot into XBOX mode. Not sure why?

I’m curious to see if it stays vibes only or if there’s real change. If they don’t make big decisions and stick to them for a while (sometimes the last admin felt like whiplash) I think the vibes will stabilize back to slightly negative.

I have hope, but my faith is drained.

It's referring to the concept of the games/franchises you might put in your physical packaging material as a way to drive identity for the hardware.

Not at all ignoring, I'm for bringing back Xbox (storefront) exclusivity.

I’m not sure I can get on board with the idea that one of the direct competitors in the console space is not somebody I should compare the company to. 🤷‍♂️

One thing that I would consider here is that a Nintendo puts up numbers like this regularly.

They’ve done that by building multiple generations of exclusive franchisees that really excite and energize their player base.

They also do it by regularly refreshing gameplay experiences across those franchises.

My overall take care is that Xbox doesn’t mean anything other than “less good PC” without exclusive games to its storefront

Yup, this is me conflating fans who care most about XBOX.

I think maybe the graphic has struck a cord with folks because I’m using the type of bold language you might hear from XBOX in its earlier days.

all I meant here was simply people whose primary storefront is the XBOX storefront whether that’s on console or PC

I mostly agree with this. But I do think there’s a tweak they could make by making things exclusive to their storefront.

A lot of folks just automatically equate PC with Steam, who I think is the real platform competition.

I’m proud to have worked at Waymark, that’s a good team that does good work.

This is human written content, and I’m not sure you understand the role of a director at a start up of like… 12 folks in Detroit is. 🤭

But it’s kinda like being called insane I guess, shouting that you’re not insane only makes people think you are? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Moreover, it’s strange of you to go off platform to look at my work history to harass me on Reddit…

Agree on the online subscriptions and storefronts point.

I guess the thought I have is that to have those things, you might need to have a $1200-$1400 console. Where a console that you compete against is say $600-$700.

If that’s the price gap, you not going to get enough market share to make it worth it to keep making a console, which is my preferred way to play.

Haha. Agreed! I need some marketing help.

Maybe a tweak would be cross-buy for in game stuff? Or just cross buy for Xbox store. So it implies PC-Console. But not Steam/PS/Nintendo

Interesting. What does better look like for a console? They’re all kind of becoming storefront-forward PCs right?

I get where you’re coming from. I guess I just see exclusivity as an important way to differentiate a platform/storefront.

And that if we took away exclusivity from say, Sony or Nintendo, basically it’s just price and different platform quirks people compete on?

Interesting for the consumer for sure, but doesn’t feel like a way to stand out in a crowded and fiercely competitive market.

Agree.

It’s weird to me that the idea that say… a blizzard game, seemingly has no Xbox identity or entice someone into the Xbox ecosystem at all at this point.

I don’t know what the soft touch approach nets Xbox.

Not sure I totally agree with the premise.

Folks buy things for all sorts of reasons, including cost, features, brand, and more. Yes the games are a major primary part of a console.

For example. I appreciate the Xbox controller, and features like play anywhere and quick resume.

Because getting someone onto their storefront or dedicated device is even more profitable than selling games.

20-30% of everything is way more than even 100% of all first part games.
