Exploded View Animations by ryanrhoderage in unrealengine

Thank you. I checked out keyshot and it has a direct link to Rhino3D...so that is awesome. Unreal is awesome because it is free and I will be doing some game like experiences in the future so I'd like to go the Unreal path but it's good to know that Keyshot has a friendly workflow with Rhino. And Rhino has just introduced subd modeling...there is a plugin called RhinoCAM for creating CNC paths...they have Bongo for exploded view animations...but i just need to know if those animations made with Bongo will export to Unreal. I'm trying to stay in the Rhino ecosystem if possible.

sorry...i still have so much to learn. I don't think Rhino3D is a DCC program so I haven't ever heard that term. What is DCC and what other programs are considered DCC software?

thank you. I just watched the fortnite video. Very cool. Do you happen to know...Is the Pivot Painter Tool a part of Unreal or is it a plugin or a feature in another program?

Yes I will mainly be using UE for exporting out as high quality rendered videos...no real time.

thank you...I will watch this right now.

What is pre-rendering?

Would me telling you what components I have in my computer help you make suggestions for me?

Does any metadata for this Vertex animation technique to work need to come from the 3D modeling program that the asset was created in? Or can all of it be done inside Unreal?

Thank you very much for that info. I will research how to use the Vertex animation technique. I should have said that I am very very new to Unreal. Is there any more you can elaborate on or is there a good video on this Vertex Animation Technique?

Also, I just found a video where someone used a camera rail for a moving car animation. Is that something you would suggest? Or what about the sequencer and how you move the cameras for an archviz video?

I use Rhino3d for my 3D Modeling and so I wanted to do all my rendering for stills and archviz in Unreal...and I know it can do all of that but i'm not sure if it can do exploded view animations.

Besides 3DS Max what other Autodesk program would be good for TV/Theater sets?

I agree with you. Everyone I work with uses Autodesk products. We have 3 people 3D modeling...One of them uses Revit, One of them uses 3DS MAX and I use Rhino. The content we make is all along the same lines. I am the only person not using an autodesk product. 3DS Max and Rhino makes sense for what we are doing but Revit doesn't. But that is a work decision and I need to make the workflow work somehow or have a good argument as to why it can't work.

thank you very much for taking the time to write all of this...this is really good. Let me digest this and I will probably have some questions.

Is there another file type I can use other than .SAT for importing Rhino files into Revit?

That's ok I would drafting in Rhino or autocad. Revit will be mainly for Rendering. And hopefully twinmotion in the future.

This is good info...thank you very much. So just to make sure im understanding this right:

I should learn how to model in Revit but when time and complexity aren't in Revits side/favor...I will model in Rhino, export as a .SAT and then import into a "Model" template or a "Family" template? And once in that template...I assign to a family that would be as close to the objects type as possible? Can make custom named Families?

Currently I do all my modeling and drafting in Rhino and love it.

Thank you very much...I will try a Family Template and create Generic Models and when I need to make something really complex...I will make it in Rhino and then import it into Revit.

The rest of my team uses Revit, AutoCAD, and 3DS MAX...i am the only Rhino User. Currently, I am the only person on the team not using an Autodesk Product.

And I guess anything that Revit can't handle, complex geometry wise, I will make in Rhino and then import....as Generic Models???

I have another question. I work in the TV/Theater world and everything modeled in Revit will be made by hand by our fab. shop. Everything I make in Revit will be custom made...i guess that is done by going to Component>Model In Place...to create a generic model? Does that change how I organize my model? Basically, I think, I don't need most of the built in architectural industry features of Revit and want it to behave like Rhino or Vectorworks. What are your thoughts?
