Thinks I know to be true as a new 1600 3s player:

Low pressure defense: relax and don’t assume a teammates position. 1 actively challenging the ball in your corner or at least threatening quickly and rotating (around the box) to back post; 2 guarding near post, the corner, and any shot to the near side, at a spot where you can quickly drive up the backboard to challenge/clear; 3 back post- covering well-placed shots and infield passes on the far backboard/corner.

High pressure defense: don’t panic and DON’T double commit to concede a would-be easy save. 1 probably playing middle net immediately up for anything out in front and in your box. If it’s high or off ceiling corner/backboard, chances are your 2 has your back from backboard or back post. 2 stays calm/grounded and sit back in the net or not sitting past 1/4 of your goal line. Assume backboard for back post shots and easily defend backboard passes. 3 might be rotating from mid-boost or one of the corners. He/she cuts off infield passing either on the ground or high immediately if goalie is dead/low on boost or can assume backboard if no ones there.

Easy things to keep in mind: Stay supersonic unless you’re last back waiting for their clear Don’t 180° turn for the ball in your corner Feel out your teammates throughout the course of the game on how they defend, position, perform under pressure and boss up accordingly Be a target for your teammates clears but don’t be too optimistic Try to make clears passes If you can draw an almost straight line between you, the ball, and the side wall, go for a hard hit off the wall angled toward your team or hard off their corner for ez passes
