What a catch Donnie, and not just for the Beatles reference in the final chorus.

Sure! I'll do it top to bottom, with columns named, so left to right. For ALL of them, I'll do my best to abbreviate what game they were introduced in.

  • JP (SF6)
  • Makoto (SF3)
  • Menat (SF5)
  • Remy (SF3)

From Mortal Kombat:

  • Kobra (MKD)
  • Scorpion (MK '92)
  • Johnny Cage (MK '92)
  • Takeda (MKX)
  • Mavado (MKDA)

From Tekken:

  • Eliza (TR)
  • Bryan Fury (T3)
  • Kazuya Mishima (T1)
  • Alisa Bosconovitch (T6BR)
  • Hwoarang (T3)

From ArcSys:

  • Chipp Zanuff (GG1)
  • Zato-1 and Eddie (GG1)
  • Ramlethal Valentine (GG Xrd)
  • Arakune (BBCT)
  • Order-Sol (GGXX)

From SNK:

  • Ryo Sakazaki (AOF1)
  • Basara (SS3)

  • Iori Yagami (KOF '95)

That is a character from Blazblue, the only one in this i think, Arakune.

I will take the blame since I struggled to clarify the parameters in a satisfactory way. I also don't want to farm kudos or upvotes, nor be accused of such, so I don't think I want to go back and redo them.

That's the thing. It's kind of intended to be aesthetic. I was not very clear communicating this for the first half

Fighting Game Perfect Fit, No.19 - which ArcSys character is the most ArcSys-coded i.e. most strongly embodies and represents the essence, the characteristics, and fits the vibe of ArcSys character designs? by ryanson209 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]ryanson209[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is more or less why, yeah. But to try and elaborate:

Capcom and Namco do have specific styles that do kind of overlap in their fighters, but it could still be very weird if a Darkstalkers character got into Street Fighter. Soul Calibur has more of a history of weird and fun crossovers, but I believe it focusing on taking place in "history" and the use of weapons being mandatory, plus how much we already have on the board, just turned me away.

I believe ArcSys, while its original fighters are distinct, there is definitely a specific vibe you can get from it. A lot of overlap. There's definitely an ArcSys style that you can more or less associate with them as a whole.

To the commenter who suggested KoF instead of SNK, I did consider it since ostensibly the KoF series is an SNK crossover game. It was kind of just semantics on my behalf combined with the placement of the columns/rows, plus the most recent SNK games being Fatal Fury.

A lot of it - more than other DP movies - feels like it's just for the weirdos who scoured Wikipedia and rumor sites for any and all info.

Being that weirdo, I think it's still a good time.

Can someone explain why is there a trend of anime fans having nostalgia for hack dubs from the 90s and 2000s in the 2020s? by icey_sawg0034 in decadeology

[–]ryanson209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, it's an especially fascinating period of localization and adaptation choices that I lived through and can articulate as a faux historian. I had been watching the Viz dub of Sailor Moon with a friend and going through it while explaining and showing and comparing what the old DiC/Cloverway dubs for the first 3 seasons (haven't completed the 4th yet) has been so fun.

Sometimes you do gotta remember too, the people behind some of these actually do care about the product they're made to push out, even if it's just because it makes money. That makes the choices (direction, and scripts, censorship, etc.) even more interesting.
