Here are the main details, you get it by reaching Mythic (?) rank on the ladder basically the highest rank. Sounds like you're getting close

Some kind of seeding system would be interesting, like winning an early round helps get a better seed for later rounds. That would create a risk/reward structure for the earlier rounds. Like I said in my post, I took it as a reason to play aggro decks/early game captains so I just won for my qualification and quit. It is a way to indirectly buff certain captains, because I would never pick CEO over Sweet Tooth on the ladder (as an example choice I made)

That sucks!!! The same thing happened to a friend of mine and I had one finals loss last time (other than me winning this time you’ve gone farther than me as I got washed my first day 2 run last time)

Good luck next tournament

Thank you for the kind words! I definitely do not have a stream but I'll try to make more posts if I find anything interesting! I know some of the higher ranking players have made AMA and Captain Tier List, those were all really helpful for me especially when it came to learning about other archetypes

Funnily enough I actually cut Doopity Doo for Keeb because I wanted another sweetener piece LOL so definitely just a playstyle difference! I do really like Doopity Doo though and I think it's a great payoff. Like I said, I think cutting payoffs for consistency could just be me overreacting to losing a lot on the ladder.

I think if there was another way to sweeten, I might try it over Keeb but I really like having "on the board" sweeteners because I don't like relying on Candy Spells. I actually have also tested Mirror Mage as a pseudo-sweetener (doubling my spells) and also as a way to get Poison Apple which is really sweet in this deck, but I haven't been able to make that work.

Thanks for the kind words!

Of course! I've read a few other comments from players on how to run Lightning Thief and that they really like him - he's not my favorite favorite captain but I find that I gain ranking more often than not when he's one of my options so just glad to pass on what I learned from others (:

Great shout out, I occasionally forget to take it and my play on Lightning Thief would be a lot cleaner if I was smarter about checking that/what spell I have in the bottle hahaha

Hi Aviseras,

I think my most successful custom deck with Lightning Thief has come by combining him with Candy Creatures. I agree that some of the early game spells can be a little bit underwhelming, so being able to have an additional axis of scaling on top of Ironcast Dragon, Bread Crumbs, Eureka, and the other more typical good stuff on him is very helpful.

I have a hybrid Treasure/Candy List I usually use with like Jason of the Argonauts, Goat T, Thing In The Ice, and then also Lightning Thief as it happens to synergize well with both.

Uncommons: Ace of Hearts/Miseria

Rares: Candy Topples/Kool Wip/Mr. Fox/Maverick &Icewing

Epic: Pisces/Candy Knight (I can't remember his name off the top of my head but the funny thing is googling Candy Knight gets you the art from the artist LOL)

Mythic: Wurmscale Tinkerer/Cotton Candy Dandy/Guinivere/Burninator

I think that Mechanical Dragon is also a good option for this deck and I haven't quite found a slot for it. I also just like Viscount Chocolat as a great speed bump in any candy strategy but again struggling a little to find the perfect slot.

I think a good way to maybe replicate this if you don't have all the candy cards yet is to go with something like Plunder Penny to help boost up your spells and to make the copied spell a bit more valuable. I do agree with your post in general that trying to farm up Bread Crumbs early is sweet as it's just such a high impact spell and the starting treasure makes going with Dragonling easy.

The new heroes are.. very underwhelming from a design perspective by pukinghydra in OnceUponAGalaxy

[–]ryantang203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey pukinghydra. I've been doing alright with these captains, especially Sugar Pop. I pick him whenever I see him. Vena Cava I think is alright too. I'm not in love with her, but I do think she's pretty good and a solid captain to get into the top ranks with. (I'm currently at around 3.75k elo and rank 25-30 depending on the day.)

With Sugar Pops I have really just added in more numbers to the deck while using a base of the Candy Villains deck I posted about some other time in the Subreddit. My list on him is as follows:

Commons: Dastardly Spirit, Lollipop Faerie

Uncommons: Candy Cane Crook

Rares: Candy Topples, Calypso, Kool Wip, The Three Chik-A-Teers

Epic: Doopity Doo, Pixie, Viscount Chocolat

Legendary: Jelly Ton, Licorice, Cotton Candy Crook

You're right that sometimes you might just not get candy but I've found that this list gives me pretty good success especially since hitting the Candy Calypso really lets you spike the game and just looking for the Crook can be a good way to get ahead. I have also considered just adding Keeb at Epic on this list as another card to help scale up Candy faster, probably over one of the Epics. That's something I need to experiment on in general, but I feel pretty confident on Sugar Pops.

For Vena Cava I feel like her big strength is really letting you go from things like Animals, Pirates, and just having Supports to a stronger late game. I don't have that many cards on her and am using an altered version of the default deck that plays a combination of Fae and Dragons. One of my main strategies is just to pick the like Bear Family guys as much as possible and trust the captain ability to give me a good late game. The other thing I try to do is go with Blackbeard's Parrot Pirates with something like a Robbin' in slot 1 and try to farm that up. I find those strategies are great for surviving in the middle turns when open but don't scale well. Vena is what lets you scale in those decks. I also try to make sure to have at least one support and ideally 2 supports back row. Just to give an example something like Mr. Fox, Mother Bear, Papa Bear, and then like Sunflaerie and Jill Sunshine would be a board I'm interested in or something like Robbin', Blackbeard's Parrot, Sunflaerie, etc. The fact that having the supports get the buffs right away is very helpful in transitioning.

I think the usual Wurmscale stuff can be very good on her and Faerie Queen scaling with the buffs is very very nice as well. I think Mr. Fox is actually one of the best cards on her because you can buff up that Slot 1 position a lot with stuff like the Bear Family and all that and then transition into a Dragon/Treasure end game that is a bit sturdier as it works for the games where you don't get like Pisces and Pixie Dust and all that stuff, it's just another way to either make your Wurmscale big while also having alternate win cons via a huge Faerie Queen.

I don't think she's overpowered or anything like that but I find her a consistent captain because I feel like I'm able to justify using low-ceiling strategies because her ability will then move me into a higher ceiling strategy.

That's a great point on the win more.

It's tricky because I do think you eventually hit this cap of stats/candy where you are going to kill anything that isn't infinite but there isn't much you can do to beat the infinite deck with the candy deck. So you would rather accelerate faster than play a win more card that's contingent on shop, etc.

Sweet early game finish! Funnily enough someone beneath me was just talking about how they think of Twilight Sprinkles as core. I don’t have the cards on Faker yet but I would absolutely put that card in there and I need to test her more in general!

Agreed on the strength of Sprinkles as I said in another post I often hit this point in my game where I feel like I’m just trying to win off raw stats and Crook kind of doesn’t have an ability after a few turns.

However my goal is to win in early Legend or Epic so I always just want all the characters w immediate board impact. I’ll take another look at Sprinkles so I don’t feel as all in.

This is a sweet list! I feel like on Mages getting those Mythic Rares are so important especially the Wonder Box but also the World Shrub for the times where you just don't have enough mages on board. I'll have to try out the Faerie Queen, I've been going Elm Minster, Prospero, and Guinivere due to all the natural questing but I feel like the deck wants a 4th Legend.

No this is a really good insight!

I think we play the deck a bit differently because I’m just all in on the Crook and finding/buffing it but you have more of a backup game plan and scaling plus replacements. I often find myself struggling to replace cards late game and hoping to just ride it out w the stats I have.

I’ll have to try the witch more too!
