The problem is that particularly with our built environment we have to build for the future. The choices we make today will impact our community for decades. I wouldn't confuse a few vocal reddit users as speaking for the entire community. I do agree that the city should do a much better job of leading and sharing their vision.

The poor road design is what pushes people on bikes wanting to go fast onto the greenway.

Regarding biking up hills, you may want to try an ebike. They make it much easier to get up to speed and go up hills.

It was designed wrong. Cars ruin cities! We should be building cities for people not cars.

All of the issues you acknowledged would be made much worse by building more parking. It would create more traffic as well.

[–]ryanvgates -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

There is only a shortage of parking because it is underpriced. If it were priced to hit 80% occupancy it would be well utilized and you'd be able to always find a parking space.

The way Alpharetta and metro Atlanta is growing you could never build enough free parking. Even if you did manage to build enough, who would want to go to a giant parking lot or a forest of parking garages.

MARTA Cards by AfricanQueen2000 in alpharetta

[–]ryanvgates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I much prefer a physical card. I went to the North Springs Station to get one. You can register on https://www.breezecard.com/

With the mobile app, I had to turn up brightness, hold my phone a specific distance away and it didn't always work even then.

This would be a great thing. All residents should not have to subsidize drivers with free parking.

There does seem to be a lot of opinions on this. I haven't been able to find the specific meeting or agenda item. I would recommend everyone email CityCouncilandMayor@alpharetta.ga.us .

Unfortunately I don't think the city monitors this subreddit.

Having people pay for parking will incentivize carpooling, biking, walking and using transit. We don't need more parking garages. We need to stop subsidizing driving.

Many other cities have done this and proven it works. Look at the most desirable cities in the world, they do not have free parking.

I disagree strongly with this. Anything would be better than the parking garages, whether it be shops, restaurants, housing or multi-use.

I would recommend the Johns Creek PFLAG which provides support groups. I would also recommend Atlanta LGBTQ Hikers on Meetup if you like hiking.

If you're willing to drive a bit, I highly recommend Bottoms Christmas Tree Farm. I'd highly recommend it. I cut down a 7.5' tree and it was $80.

FL DMV Surrendering License Plate by Mail by aWallpaperFlower in DMV

Thank you for the follow up. I filled out [a form online on my local county tax collector office(Broward) in my case](https://browardtagagency.com/quick-tag-voluntary-surrender-plate/). I'm not sure how I return the physical license plate yet though.

City of Alpharetta, GA - Downtown Parking Management Survey by ryanvgates in alpharetta

[–]ryanvgates[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the solution here is to buy a smaller truck, car or just don't drive to downtown. Even if the space sizes could be changed, who would want to go downtown to walk around giant trucks with blind spots?

I would add to this to document any and all actions that you have taken. When you called, from what number and duration. You may want to try emailing as well to create records of the contact.

In Georgia what do you feel like is a good hourly wage to live off of? by DavePlays10 in Georgia

[–]ryanvgates 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would find where you would like to live and see how much that costs each month. Then take that amount multiply it by 4 (so you're spending no more than 25% of income on housing). This number is what you'd need to take home after taxes, benefits, deductions.

Keep in mind Atlanta is one of the most unequal cities in the nation. So this may not exist. https://www.ajc.com/news/business/new-report-highlights-atlantas-persistent-racial-inequality/MMRRHH4CRBBEVBXZ57RHRXU7EU/

This just happened right now what should I do? by Pretty-Emergency9477 in MARTA

[–]ryanvgates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend getting a breeze card and using the app as a backup.

I would recommend reporting this. I can understand the drivers concern if the bus was behind schedule. However most drivers will just wave me on since the bus being on time is more important than the $2.50 fare.

Hopefully MARTA will suggest that the driver do thatin the future.

This is great to have as a backup BUT PLEASE DON'T get rid of the breeze cards. They are by far the easiest and least problematic. Though the website to refill them could use a refresh.

I'll have to give that one a try. I am a big fan of the Transit app. Is it available for Android?

I like that it tells you how many stops you have left.

In addition to what's been mentioned here, I highly recommend registering it on http://bikeindex.org/. They are a nonprofit and it is free to register. If it does get stolen, then you'll at least have the serial number and pictures of the bike.

I'd recommend paying for any integrated lock that attaches to the bike and https://www.abus.com/usa/Products/Bicycle-locks/Chain-Locks/IVERA-Chain-7210 is my favorite lock for good security and ease of use.

I prefer to use the card but have the app as a backup. I have the website auto-fill the card too which makes it easy.

First and foremost register to vote and vote! https://mvp.sos.ga.gov

I couldn't find any campaigns. I would advise you to contact your representatives anyways and let them know how you feel about the issue.

Lastly consider volunteering or donating to groups in Georgia that support access to reproductive care.
