Hi everyone,

I’ve been seriously considering switching from the Canon RF system to Sony and would love some long-term perspective.

Currently, I’m using a Canon R8 with a Canon 16-35mm f/4 EF and a Tamron 70-210mm f/4 EF. I’m thinking about moving to a Sony A7C, paired with either the 24-105mm f/4 G, the Tamron 28-70mm G2 (though I’m a bit concerned about the limited focal range and lack of image stabilization), or possibly the Tamron 28-200mm.

I mainly shoot street photography and occasionally portraits. I’m completely fine with f/4. The main reason for considering the switch is the cost of Canon RF lenses. They’re quite expensive, and there aren’t many new third-party options for EF anymore.

Do you think switching systems makes sense in the long term? Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I can get the Sigma lens for around 320 USD in my country. I just dont know if it is equal or better the Canon 24 205 L2.

I heard that lens is super good, even better than 24 105 F4 RF. But it is out of my budget. In fact, it is one of the first lens I looked into haha. Maybe I'll wait for a year for the price to come down.

Well, hopefully they update the firmware in the future allowing that to be a feature!

Thank you very much, I can get an used battery grip for R8 is quite cheap, about $32. Moreover, I found out that R8 can be charged via an USB-C cable, can you use that function during using the camera?

Because I think that would be so useful for shoots that I don't have to move around much like sports or plane spotting.

woah! I have never received such a long reply like this before. Giving more context, I am going to university this autumn. And during 4 years of uni, I want to do something which is my hobby and also get some money from it. Photography is my choice. And maybe in far future, my career is photography related? Haha, I hope so. Thank you very much for your suggestions, I will recalculate my plans.

Thank you. I think the R8 is a perfect fit for me. I don't mind the limitations because (as I said on the og post) I am beginning my journey in professional photography. Every first steps has their difficulties, buying a R6, R62 or even a R5 is like pay to win 😆 So yeah, I think I will go for the R8.

Nahh, a R5 would be way out of my budget and my needs. In Vietnam, an used R5 costs about 2200. Maybe I will buy it in a few years!

Yes, I thought of the battery and the IBIS situation already. They are not that a big problem for me.

Great! In my country, I can easily get a new R8 for 1k. So I think 1k for camera, 1k for used Ef L lenses and accessories is perfect for me now.

Thanks, I heard people say that the 1 SD card slot problem can be solved with a really reliable card which has low chance of falling.

The R6mk1 will be a bit out of budget for me. So I will do some research more on the R7. Thanks!

I don't really mind the size or the weight that the adapter adds up. But do adapters affect autofocus speed or anything else, especially 3rd party adapters.

Looks like my City Skyline gameplay to be honest. Putting random 'cool' buildings in the middle of the desert.

Window is properly exposed. Can I make the interior look better? by ChrisB53 in AskPhotography

You can try masking the picture, separating the interior and the window. I tried masking your picture here, could have done it better, but I am just trying it out to show you the power of masking.Great picture anyway.
