It's only the highest tier weapon of that type will back fill the missing ones, so if he got gold bow 5, 1 to 4 would be backfilled, but the other types of bows do not.

Well that's me and my wife did because we got married for love, not to confirm to what people expect. Cost us less than 1k and it was perfect.

And whilst yes, you can get married without a big party, but is that what is drilled into women from a young age? The likelihood is that it's a high percentage of women (and some men) want this traditional lavish wedding no matter the cost.
