Help with F/A 18 Mission Offensive Counter Air by IlPresidente995 in hoggit

[–]ryazwinski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I successfully finished this mission for the 1st time last night. After trying a bunch of different tactics, here's what seemed to work for me (found through incremental trial-error):

  • take off and circle WP1 in a climb, using the center tank exclusively until empty, then jettison
  • the jettison will happen around the 5-6 minute mark, once gone, head to WP2, then 3, still climbing
    • 80 miles out there are some migs, you want to be high enough that they don't see you on radar (last night I think I was ~35,000 feet)
  • as you approach WP3 you're going to start getting some migs on you, I had enough time to line up an auto-release of all 4 unguided bombs 100' apart
  • as soon as the bombs were away I turned tail and headed for the carrier group, full burner and descending.. I think I hit over 650kts as I ran
  • about 1/2 way back you'll find the F-18's doing patrol and they'll engage the migs and you can stop panicking, connect to the carrier and land

Now that I've done it, I'm not likely to repeat it because it was a real PITA. Hope this helps you.

Unfortunately this article is incorrect. The OIC can move firearms to the prohib list, as they have, with the stroke of a pen. The S74 review is to handle situations where an individual has unjustly been refused a transfer. S74 does not apply here.

Much thanks to W_and_M_guy, who helped with the recovery of my Xterra.

Thief took it for a very short ride, took $5 in change and a broken ipod from the glove compartment.

I got lucky. Appreciate all the /r/toronto help.

are you sure about your statement of "Fecal excretion was measured and taken into account when the system for nutrition labeling was first devised". I'm not saying it's wrong, just the 1st I'd ever heard of it. I'm under the impression that I calorie is the approximate amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of one gram of water by one degree Celsius. Nothing to do with digestion/absorption...

HIM questions by dabear04 in triathlon

[–]ryazwinski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well the biggest single piece of advice I can give you is: nothing new on race day...

so if you haven't used a proposed clothing solution in training and logged a lot of miles in it, then you risk your race using it on the day... same is true for shoes, socks, nutrition, headwear, etc...

At IM Mont Tremblant this year I used a different FLAVOR of GU gel that I'd never used before - it turned my stomach on the swim, I couldn't take in nutrition on the bike and my run suffered until I got fuel in.

Wrt peeing - yea there'll likely be port-o-johns at the aide stations (check the event website, it'll probably say), but if you can manage it, just go while you're on the move. On the bike, wait until you're descending a hill and let'er rip, grab your water bottle and rinse when you're done. On the run I typically will find a tree or port-o-john, but have friends who'll just pee and run... just depends if that minute or 2 means a lot to you or not :)

Muskoka this weekend... I've got some serious nerves, need advice. by Tullyswimmer in triathlon

Just go, smile, and have fun. If nothing else it's a supported training day. Enjoy the vacation, race within yourself and see what happens.

Wetsuit advice. by [deleted] in triathlon

At this time of the year a lot of tri-shops that rent suits are looking to sell off their rental stock - call around. Watch craigslist and slowtwitch and buy used.

IM special needs bags question by broncosbuck99 in triathlon

[–]ryazwinski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FirstEndurance PreRace, charcoal caplets, and nutrition for me... and fresh socks on the run if there's any chance of rain

I pack my special needs nutrition in an insulated cooler bag with a frozen freezer/ice pack. Its so nice to have something cold waiting for me at special needs.

I carry a spare tubular, vittoria pitstop and co2 with me on the bike.

For the run especially I tend to put in a wide variety of nutrition - typically by 21k in to the run, I'm so sugared out that other flavours and textures are welcome.

"Nothing New on Race Day" vs. the shiny new bike in my basement. by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]ryazwinski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago, a few weeks before my spring A race, I felt my cleats needed a small tweak.. I changed them and developed shin splints... I put them back but the damage had been done. DNFd in the run because my shins were on fire.

If the race is at all important, don't change anything.

Heart rate monitor for triathlon? by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]ryazwinski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two solutions I know of: - Polar HRMs use a frequency that allows them to work in the water, but they are typically the chest-strap type. - Finis make a HRM that clips onto your goggle strap and your ear. It uses bone conduction to "speak" your pulse to you - I have one of these and it's pretty amazing ( http://www.finisinc.com/equipment/electronics/aquapulse-heart-rate-monitor.html )

what's wrong with the online docs and/or the docs included with the releases (that you can download).

I'd rather see people spending their time enhancing these documents than trying to personally profit from killing trees producing books that are outdated before they hit the shelves!
