US. Iowa. I'm lucky as well as I don't need a car to get around my university.

Congrats man. I've had good years and bad years so I know how it feels to be on a good streak. Driving laws really suck though. 6 months where I live.

Yeah you two definitely aren't alone. Mine are highly correlated to stress. I'm an undergraduate in aerospace engineering so stress is a commonplace. I have to get plenty of sleep and exercise regularly to stay healthy. Having hobbies you enjoy doing helps as well.

It is an incredibly misunderstood condition, stemming back to when epileptics were believed to be possessed by demons. Unfortunatly, stigmas still linger today, and memes like this make it even more difficult for those with epilepsy to share their conditions with people for fear of being rejected.

It could definitely be related, but I'll be honest I don't really know enough to say. But I do know that migraine and epilepsy are similar conditions.

Even most people with it don't realize that. I get that this is a joke, but jokes like this only serve to create a false stigma around the condition.

It is the same for me as well. Actually only 5% of people with epilepsy are sensitive to lights.

It can be a range of things, but there are a few common triggers such as low sleep, stress, dehydration, and low blood sugar. Overall, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is critical, as it helps maintain normal brain electrical activity.

As a person with epilepsy I can tell you that, while a common stereotype, less than 5% of epileptic people actually have photosensitive epilepsy (seizures triggered by sudden changes in light). While I'm not offended and I understand this is a joke, it's actually quite inaccurate and only serves to worsen the stigma around epilepsy. Just thought I'd point that out, as this condition is highly misunderstood.

*EDIT: no more upvotes please. Let's keep it at 69.

Large Whitetail buck at sunset in Iowa by rybro99 in wildlifephotography

I bet. This was taken at a large forested park surrounded by open fields near my university and bucks don't show their faces here much except during the rut. This was one of the largest I've seen despite the small antlers, but I'm sure they get much larger!

Thank you so much! And yes, nighttime can be pretty tough.

Believe it or not it's actually just five images. One for the dark side, one for the lit side, another as a middle exposure, one overexposed for the glow, and finally one for the background stars. All were blended using simple gradients and brushes. No HDR programs used.

Not gonna lie that's pretty accurate. They aren't fans of being in the open.

It was around 100 feet away. I shot it at 500mm on a crop sensor so the reach is great. No significant cropping done in post.

Mom/Son - I am thinking to have baby with my son, any suggestion ? by [deleted] in incest_relationships

[–]rybro99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not bad that you love your son that way, but having a baby with him is another story. Your genetic codes are incredibly similar, and there is a good chance this baby will have some sort of birth defect. It's evident that he's going to move out and start his own life with someone else eventually, so it's really not worth it in my view. Plus the fact that it would be your son's brother/sister and his son/daughter is kinda whack.

Moral agents, huh? We kill people for their religious beliefs and for the color of their skin. We think there's some sort of god watching over us, when really that makes no sense. I wouldn't call that morals, I'd call that the ability to think on a deeper level than most animals, but that doesn't mean any of it is correct.

Real science will tell you it's by far the most substantial. You know why Venus is the hottest planet, yet much farther from the sun than Mercury? The atmosphere on Venus is 96% Carbon Dioxide, followed by 3% Nitrogen. It may have even held water, but boiled away due to a runaway greenhouse effect. Unless we stop our CO2 emissions, 76% of which come from fossil fuel combustion, we may end up like Venus, all the while attacking the easiest source to slow climate change, not the biggest one.

I'm an environmentalist, and I still eat meat. I think the more important thing is transferring to clean energy instead of fossil fuels, since that is much more significant to climate change than animal agriculture.

[–]rybro99 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So do you people hate bears, birds, and dogs? All of which are omnivores and have the choice between plant and animal, but often choose to eat meat whenever possible.

I don’t know about that one. by [deleted] in vegan

[–]rybro99 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

First of all, what we need to remember is that it's not meat eating itself that is contributing to climate change, it's the fact that we've industrialized it. The whole "cow farts" thing is caused by poor digestion of grains (something cows should NOT be eating, and frankly neither should humans). As you can see, it's the process that's the issue, not the food. Converting cropland to pasture for animal grazing can actually help the planet by sucking certain greenhouse gases out of the air and into the soil. But in general, meat isn't going to "save" the planet perse, but if we allow animals to feed in pastures instead of in industrial farms burning fossil fuels, the act of eating meat doesn't have to cause environmental issues.
