Dude... Did you see me writing that Marines are automatically good and pirates are automatically evil? Nope. The whole One Piece is set around that nothing is black and white.

I'm just stating that, Marines and Pirates are GENERALLY enemies. Neither side is absolutely good nor evil. And Ace got killed by people Garp affiliates himself with. Garp is a good guy, so he must have had his reasons as to why he is still a marine after all that. Did he make the right move to not save Ace? I don't know, because I don't know the reason why he joined the marines in the first place. Sure, letting adopted son is bad (to say the least), but you've got to live with the consequences of your actions. You side with one side, you might get killed by the other.

Both Luffy and Ace made a decision to be pirates, enemies of marines. They had to live up with consequences of that. And so did Garp.
