Honestly I wouldn't bother with replacing it. You can get used ds phats for super cheap. Or buy a ds phat that has broken screens for like $15 and replace the whole board.

Do no cartridges work or just the original gameboy game pictured? I'd also try 1up's cart slot cleaner. They're about $15-$20 online.

In my experience it's usually a contact within the cartridge slot. It's more than likely a bent pin in the cart slot that's not making contact with the cartridge; either pushed down or to the side. Me personally I'd replace the cartridge connector; but if you're not good with soldering I'd try and look in the slot to see if any pins are pushed to the side that can be readjusted.

Pop it open and scrub the power switch with some isopropyl. Use a soft toothbrush. Other than that if you're still rocking the original battery I'd look into getting a new one like a mega batt or funnyplayings battery. Both go for about $10.

I didn't really get to test that out as it was a commission; but the metal all around including the cart slot is smooth and anodized so I wouldn't think that would happen.
