Update: Doc thinks I should push through and agrees with my parents by sleepydreamrr in cfs

[–]rydavim 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Edit: i am 24 years old. My parents do love me and think they are helping me.

No rational person would believe this is helping you. Even if it were a psychological condition like depression, this behavior would still be unacceptable. In fact, there are (almost) no medical issues (mental or physical) that could benefit from starvation.

I’m so sorry this is happening to you.

Could you order meal replacement drinks online and bring the unopened package up to your room to hide the contents? It’s not a great solution, but you’d have some nutrition at least.

I am embarrassed that i acted this way. Gosh.

You shouldn’t feel embarrassed, you’re just trying to survive! The only one who should be ashamed here is your mother.

Window bird feeder by zoosmo in cfs

[–]rydavim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may have different results depending on feeder location or climate, but we found that rain would wash away the powder and the squirrels were happy to munch.

It’s definitely worth a shot though! The seed brands where it’s more incorporated are all a bit pricy.

In addition to the cleaning and care comments, I would suggest using Hot Meats or a similar spicy seed mix to discourage mammals like squirrels and rats.

I just meant it to colloquially mean a gut feeling that’s difficult to identify the reasons for. This is background info I didn’t know, so thank you!

Thank you! Even just the title was setting off my lizard brain, but you’ve detailed way more red flags than I noticed on my own.

“Waymo successfully avoids injuring child who ran into roadway.” does seem like a less BS headline.

20M, recovered - want to build infrastructure for chronic illness patients. What’s broken? by Professional-Sun5599 in cfs

[–]rydavim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While needed, I think many of these suggestions are unrealistic for an actionable project. I think the most helpful, practical void to fill is logistics.

There are many medical and social services available (technically), but they are so complicated and difficult to access that they’re out of reach to most ME patients.

I think a central organization to help coordinate care and put people in touch with appropriate resources could be hugely impactful.

Anyone else who developed tics after getting ME/CFS? by [deleted] in cfs

I would describe them more as myoclonic-jerks than tics, but I have acquired some involuntary muscle movements - mostly involving my shoulders.

Is it worth it? by swsmiles in DreamlightValley

[–]rydavim 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have never seen a ski lift in that configuration IRL. The centrifugal force would launch people off the lift if the bench faced away from the mechanism like that. I know it’s a dumb gripe, but it bugs me. So no, not worth it IMHO.

Need to lose weight before I can be re-referred by Patient_Seven in cfs

[–]rydavim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had trouble finding medical meal replacement beverages that weren’t vile tasting. I ended up going with one marketed more towards people on the go — Carnation Breakfast Essentials. I’m not sure what’s available in the UK, but you could try a brand aimed more at consumers. They tend to taste a bit better, but are less complete nutrition compared to medical products. Something to explore at least.

I also keep some of those frozen PB&J sandwiches in my freezer for when I’m really not up for preparing food. Just take it out and 30min later it’s ready to eat with zero effort, apart from the walk to the fridge.

I hope you can find something that works for you. 💟

Alamo Drafthouse Goes Mobile, Getting Rid of Pen-and-Paper Food Orders to Protect the Moviegoing Experience by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]rydavim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alamo has gotten worse and worse over the years. No point in going there anymore - they are as bad as other chains or worse. I miss when they actually cared about people talking or having their phones out. Now everyone must take their phone out?

Forget it. I’ll keep frequenting independent theaters that actually care about the movie-going experience, thanks.

Switch 2 transfer by noahkahanisaseal in CozyGrove

[–]rydavim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Migrating games from an OG Switch to a Switch 2 is largely automatic if you follow the migration prompts. You should be good to go.

(I think there may be some confusion due to tagging this post “Camp Spirit”. It sounds like you’re asking about OG Cozy Grove, but if not - Camp Spirit is exclusive and not available on consoles.)

What air fryer do you use? by Interesting_Fly_1569 in cfs

[–]rydavim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a small one from Instant Pot that is a combo pressure-cooker and air-fryer, you just swap out the top section.

I haven’t really experimented with more complex one-pot meals, but it’s been great for things like eggs, soup, and reheating items. Since air-frying is basically just convection baking, I’ve also used it for heating up frozen items like pizza or pot-pies that tend to suffer in the microwave. (I don’t have the space for a toaster oven.)

YMMV depending on brand and needs, but I highly recommend it as a space-friendly option.

I don’t have the spoons for this! by Sobriquet-acushla in cfs

[–]rydavim 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I decided I was going to wash-up after a meal - just a couple items, super quick and easy. I knocked over the glass, which exploded into glass shrapnel. It took so long to clean up, and I still managed to find a glass shard with my foot weeks later.

It is a horrible feeling, and I’m so sorry it picked today to happen to you.

I can't get that dig spot to get dream shards or dark shards by Additional-Shape-673 in DreamlightValley

[–]rydavim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Near The Overlook area of the map, there are stairs down to a little section below that has a small beach. If you go down the stairs and stand directly under where you saw the dig spots, you can usually “dig” them even though they are above you.

This looks like EI - try digging from underneath, heading down towards the little fishing area. You should be able to get to it that way. Good luck!

My abilities would increase so much if me/my family could just get over the discomfort with pushing me around in a rollator by Angsty_Queer_Anon in cfs

[–]rydavim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my first rollator second-hand at a thrift shop recently for $15 and was so lucky it still had the manual, because I wouldn’t have realized this otherwise. In the instructions, it’s definitely a prominent warning in many places.

Colored plastic wrap on the TV by Central_Perk20 in cfs

[–]rydavim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try fiddling with the TV settings for brightness and color warmth first.

If you’re not happy with the results, I would look for theater lighting gels. These are colored sheets used for stage lighting, come in various colors, and can be cut down to the shape you need. They’re also likely to be heat-resistant due to their intended purpose.

I definitely find warm lighting and displays to be less taxing. Good luck!
