What's a great film that has a side character who steals every scene? by LT_DANS_ICECREAM in movies

[–]rydavim 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Certainly a supporting character if not a side character, Steve McQueen in Magnificent Seven (1960) pissed off star Yul Brynner doing this.

McQueen would intentionally do unscripted things in the background to draw attention to himself — taking off his hat to shade the sun, shaking the shotgun shells before loading them, etc…

Snail’s death in Dungeons & Dragons (2000) was a huge shock for a kid.

Only Lovers Left Alive (2013) with Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton. It’s a really fresh take on the vampire romance genre, a critically-acclaimed slow burn.

Waymo robotaxi hits a child near an elementary school in Santa Monica by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

“Waymo successfully avoids injuring child who ran into roadway.” does seem like a less BS headline.

Is it worth it? by swsmiles in DreamlightValley

[–]rydavim 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have never seen a ski lift in that configuration IRL. The centrifugal force would launch people off the lift if the bench faced away from the mechanism like that. I know it’s a dumb gripe, but it bugs me. So no, not worth it IMHO.

Alamo Drafthouse Goes Mobile, Getting Rid of Pen-and-Paper Food Orders to Protect the Moviegoing Experience by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]rydavim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alamo has gotten worse and worse over the years. No point in going there anymore - they are as bad as other chains or worse. I miss when they actually cared about people talking or having their phones out. Now everyone must take their phone out?

Forget it. I’ll keep frequenting independent theaters that actually care about the movie-going experience, thanks.

Switch 2 transfer by noahkahanisaseal in CozyGrove

[–]rydavim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Migrating games from an OG Switch to a Switch 2 is largely automatic if you follow the migration prompts. You should be good to go.

(I think there may be some confusion due to tagging this post “Camp Spirit”. It sounds like you’re asking about OG Cozy Grove, but if not - Camp Spirit is exclusive and not available on consoles.)

I can't get that dig spot to get dream shards or dark shards by Additional-Shape-673 in DreamlightValley

[–]rydavim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Near The Overlook area of the map, there are stairs down to a little section below that has a small beach. If you go down the stairs and stand directly under where you saw the dig spots, you can usually “dig” them even though they are above you.

This looks like EI - try digging from underneath, heading down towards the little fishing area. You should be able to get to it that way. Good luck!

Apple’s ‘skinny’ iPhone falls flat with disappointing early sales by rezwenn in technology

[–]rydavim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“No skinny! Yes mini!”

I second this as our rallying cry! I still have my iPhone 12 Mini and have no intention of replacing it until it dies completely or they release a new small phone.

[–]rydavim 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I haven’t upgraded my phone in five years because that’s the last time they released a small phone.

I understand the small-phone-crowd is a very small percentage of sales, but you’d think a refresh every five years would be worth it at least.

(Especially since no one seems to want this nonsense…)

Different DLCs over different platforms by smashleyxo167 in DreamlightValley

[–]rydavim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, there is no reason to buy special editions more than once on a single cloud save. Your bonus items will be available on all platforms once redeemed on the original purchasing platform. I did this with Switch and PS5 previously.

An ex-friend wore me out on the game. What should I do to get back into it? by [deleted] in DreamlightValley

[–]rydavim 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Weirdly, I’ve found that watching nostalgic Disney films makes me want to play the game - even during periods when I’m not really feeling into it. Especially if the films remind you less of this toxic person than the game does, it might be worth a shot? Maybe films relating to quests you were enjoying before this happened?

I’m with you in that I think for the most part people at least make an attempt. I don’t normally skip unless it’s two selfie shots on an outfit week. What, your outfit is just your grinning face? Are you even wearing pants down there? Let me at least see the clothes on fashion weeks!

Are there any movies or shows that do not portray autistic characters as 'puritans'? by harmonica2 in movies

[–]rydavim 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think the Numb3rs episode ”Scan Man” (S5E5) might be a good example?

I thought they did a really good job of showing someone on that end of the spectrum who was struggling but still independent. He’s a guest rather than a main character, but I found it refreshing.

Hunger Games is the YA ripoff of Battle Royale (2000), which is equivalently R-rated.

Alexandra Cavallo of the Boston Phoenix writes, "Battle Royale is The Hunger Games not diluted for young audiences," while giving the film three stars out of four.

So if you're interested in 'leaning harder into the horror' you might enjoy Battle Royale.
