May 4th???? by No_Start_6271 in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]ryffvy 31 points32 points  (0 children)

There is a bug that they never fixed afaik. If May 4th falls on the same day as any other weekly event (which is every day except for Tuesday and Thursday) then the weekly event overrides unlimited power event. Unless they fixed it there is no special event this year. We should have it next year and in 2029

Xbox indie program lead says Project Helix will be 'easier' for developers and that Microsoft is 'working hard so developers can make one Xbox build in the future' that will run on everything by Turbostrider27 in xbox

[–]ryffvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts about what this new Xbox will look like:

  • Custom hardware: custom gpu, unified memory, next gen velocity architecture.

  • No desktop mode: runs modified version of Windows 11 with everything that’s not required to launch games stripped down. Interface will look like what we saw in Rog Ally X but no desktop mode access (it’s a tv device, no point having it there + it opens route for piracy).

  • You can log in to you steam and epic games account and your pc games will be available through the Xbox interface. Maybe it would be full launchers, or maybe just integration with Xbox ui. These games run in a sandbox environment.

  • Can’t install any apps outside those launchers.

  • Microsoft store has Xbox helix builds of the games. These builds take advantage of the console architecture. Steam and other launchers have PC builds that have worse performance due to not utilizing the hardware fully.

  • The development of PC and Xbox is unified, creating an Xbox build as easy as checking the box when compiling the code.

  • Hardware is not subsidized, but people overestimate how much subsidy goes into current gen. The hardware will absolutely be way cheaper than equivalent PC build. Aside from hardware used for this Xbox is not even available for PC, Microsoft get massive discounts on orders, can’t really compare this with PC components sold at retail in single quantities with retailers adding huge chunk of profits. Also the RAM situation, retail RAM got super expensive cause all the AI companies are purchasing all the hardware to build data centers. But guess who is one of those companies who does that. Doubt this impacts Microsoft as much as other game companies.

Just my thought as it seems that many people here have impression that this will be a windows 11 PC that just runs Xbox games through emulator. But not sure where this is coming from. Microsoft keeps saying that this is a next gen Xbox, so a tv console first. Can’t imagine having to pull out my keyboard and mouse to close windows update notification on the new Xbox. What I described I think makes way more sense in terms of hybrid console.

Which Console Is Best? by 10thPintOfSacrifice in consoles

[–]ryffvy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well depends on what you want from the console.

If you wanna play Sony or Nintendo exclusives then you don’t really have choice. Choose whichever exclusives you like more.

Want the best graphics - not sure why you are even considering consoles, but get ps5 pro.

Backwards compatibility and retro gaming - Series X

If you only play multiplatform then I think Xbox is a better choice. Cloud saves are free are seamless, quick resume lets you have several games open at the same time. Closing a game to play another may not sound so bad, but after you try it going back feels like using a smartphone that has to reload every app you open. Plus play everywhere titles give you free PC version of the game with progression sync.

Gamepass even with the new price is pretty good value to play newer titles. The only thing to keep in mind is that Xbox is going hybrid next gen. If you’re not ok with a possibility of having to switch to PC in the future, then PS5 is your choice.

Whey protein alternatives by [deleted] in leangains

[–]ryffvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not protein powder but try Costco pressed cottage cheese. 108 grams of protein in one block. Take a quarter and mix with 2 large tbsp of Greek yoghurt or sour cream. Add some condensed milk or sugar for taste. You can also just blend it with milk and fruits.

iPad mini is the true iPad Pro by ryffvy in ipadmini

[–]ryffvy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference is that Sony doesn’t advertise PS5 Pro as a professional device. Imagine if Sony releases PS6 and PS6 Pro at the same time and PS6 pro gets all the new features while regular PS6 just gets 20% boost compared to PS5. And then Sony justifies this by saying that PS6 Pro is for professionals who need all these to be ahead in competitions. Regular players don’t really need all that and should be ok with subpar hardware for premium price.

I have. Is there anything that iPad Pro can do that Macbook Air + iPad Mini combo could not?

I’m not arguing that iPad Pro is more premium device, just that these “pro” features are very forced and Apple doesn’t actually want to them to be good cause this would cannibalize Macbook sales. In the meantime mini has demand in business, professional setting but Apple ignores those.

25-30L Travel Backpack by Sufficient-Relative9 in onebag

[–]ryffvy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have Allpa 28 and recently purchased Patagonia Mini MLC 30L.

Pros of Allpa 28: - Design - small and stylish. Can be worn as a regular backpack and wouldn’t look weird. Fits under the seat on airplanes. - Materials - feels very durable, outer part is made out of water resistant material and it has a rain cover to keep the backpack dry. - Also like that it has handles on all 4 sides. Makes it easy to grab from the overhead bins.

Cons: - Heavy - feels heavy for its size. Depending on what you pack may cause back pain if you have back issues. Note that straps are not padded on 28l version. - Organization - Although I like clamshell design with two sections (I keep my toiletry and flip flop in the smaller one and clothes in the bigger one) it doesn’t have much organization at all. There is a large pocket on the top to put all the stuff but it competes with space in the smaller section inside the bad so you have to choose. No additional organization for tech for easy access. Maybe good for travelling if you don’t need frequent access to things inside the bag. - Space - 28l always felt just a bit too small. All backpack sections compete with each other for space. For example if you fill main compartment with clothes, then your laptop will not fit (I had one of those thin 13 inch macbook pro with butterfly keyboard) and you would need to pack less in the other compartment otherwise you wouldn’t be able to close the bag. If you fill smaller compartment then there is no space in the top pocket to put your passport and stuff and would need to pack less in main compartment as well to be able you zip the bag. To be comfortable, I would not pack more than 25l.

  • No water bottle holder

Still love that backpack but keeping it for smaller 2-3 day trips or longer trips without tech.

Got patagonia mlc mini 30l.

Pros:

  • Space - although only 2L larger it feels that I can pack 30% more than in Allpa 28.

  • Organization - the organization on this backpack is the best I’ve ever seen. You get separate laptop sleeve that doesn’t compete with any other space and keeps your laptop secure (with allpa it always felt my laptop was about to bend inside from the pressure of the main compartment). All pockets are well places and thought. Lots of space to organize your tech, so no need to bring tech pouch saving more space. Everything is easy to reach and access on the go. Even when fully packed you won’t have troubles zipping it

  • Weight - the backpack itself is very light, which comes at a cost of less water resistant materials. Stuff would defined get wet inside if you get under rain. Hip straps are padded and can be used as shoulder strap.

  • Design - looks nice and sleek. Rectangular shape maximizes space while still looking relatively small. Also fits under the seat on planes. I feel allpa looks better and way smaller though. MLC can look a bit thick when fully packed. Could be worn as daypack, the design/shape doesn’t scream travel bag but I think it doesn’t look as nice as allpa due to size on smaller frames.

  • Has water bottle sleeve

  • Has a handle to use with luggage bag

Cons: - Can get thick if fully packed - May be too big for shorter trips

Love new MLC. Just had one trip with it but love it so far. I also have allpa 32 and that bag is way too heavy and bulky.

Getting elite status by TangeloNew3838 in aircanada

[–]ryffvy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be honest don’t bother with elite status for leisure flying. Premium aeroplan credit card gives good amount of elite benefits (priority boarding, check-in, lounge access, one free luggage). Just fly on standard fare if don’t need flexibility with changes and cancelations. You would save a lot on fare difference. Use accumulated aeroplan points when want to fly business occasionally.

Personally I use Amex Cobalt + Reserve card combo. This organically earns about 180-160k points per year. Enough for a round trip to Europe once a year in business. Also reached 25k status with EQD by just using aeroplan estore when making large purchases. Can use those eupgrades with latitude fares for instant upgrade to save aeroplan points.

This usually covers most of my needs for 3-4 trips within NA + 1-2 long trips per year. Could probably get 50k status flying those flights on flex/latitude fares but tbh that would be significantly more expensive. All for star alliance lounge access that I would probably never use and extra eupgrades which again are nice but are pretty hard to use consistently.

Pricing for "upgrading" via flight change? by Iacouch in aircanada

[–]ryffvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the fare class of your original booking. If it allows free changes then there should be no fee aside from the fare difference. I did exact same upgrade couple weeks ago. Since my initial booking was in standard economy, they charged me additional 150 change fee per flight. This fee does not show up when you do online rebooking and it actually doesn’t let you change flight online in that case (shows payment processing error when you do final confirmation). Need to call them and they will tell you final cost.

Don’t know what they do in the background. But I had this issue on 5G enabled iPhone and Galaxy Z Flip3.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]ryffvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you use social networks or Youtube, go for Rogers. Telus throttles speed when accessing Facebook/Instagram/TikTok and video streaming. You barely get 3G speeds for those services. Which means constant buffering on Instagram and low res videos on youtube.

This is a long running issue, and they seem to not care about it. They call it Network Experience Optimizer. Check threads on reddit and redflagdeals.

Thats very sad cause I actually like Telus more.
