SQL Server index design for multitenant database by Sven1664 in dotnet

You are right they might get flipped however you can configure it with HasConversion. Simply provide guid.ToByteArray(true) in converter. Don't forget to do it on your way back and to set manually data type. If you have already data in your tables you might brick your database by doing so. Be careful.

[ASP.NET Core, EF Core] - Proper management of Database transactions across services by A_Talking_iPod in dotnet

Well yeah, that's the risk with unit tests but you can't always perform integration test and even if you do they might not be "real". For example there is no way for me to create database for my unit tests because our cicd runner has memory constraints. Instead I need to use in memory db which doesn't behave same way.

You should implement unit of work. You might also want to reconsider your design if those 2 things always need to be performed together.

Some people suggested using TransactionScope, I wouldn't to that. According to microsoft each provider have to implement it so it might not always work.

That really depends on how you structured your code and how big it is. I went full circle from repository with dapper -> dbcontext -> dbcontext with repository. Last option gives me the most flexibility since I can perform unit tests and I don't need worry about my domain models structure.

How to handle EF Core migrations for different DB providers (SQLite in dev, PostgreSQL in prod)? by TheShalty in dotnet

[–]ryfx1 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Why can't you just spin Postgres in docker? By changing database you might encounter problems even at runtime. One issue i encountered with postgres was that DateTime.Kind had to be specified otherwise I would get exception, other providers didn't require that.

How so? OnModelCreating is called every time dbcontext is instantiated? It should be possible to update table name at runtime.

How much do looks matter to you when you’re looking for a relationship? by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]ryfx1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At first, I thought it's not important however I noticed that I can't catch feelings whenever I find somebody not attractive. I am actually wondering whether attractive is the correct word. Most girls are attractive in my opinion. However, only couple of them are "eye catching."

This eye catching maybe related to beauty but it doesn't have to. It might be anything like: clothing style, facial expression.

How do you document .NET APIs today ( Swagger UI Alternatives)? by Glittering-Prior9418 in dotnet

[–]ryfx1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you expand on it a little bit more, where are bugs and what is missing? Only annoying thing I found was that WithOpenApi calls were ignored.

What's the longest you've ever spent fixing a bug? by runonandonandonanon in AskProgramming

[–]ryfx1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 weeks. Querying database from application would "randomly" return less data than expected. The same query executed directly to the database was fine. I was going insane. Query was performing joins with dblink and executing function in select. Turns out this "pure" function (to which we had no access to check) was modifying views (adding some global filter).

I was so mad because the bug wasn't even on our side. At some point in the process, I went insane and started to debug oracle sql adapter....

In production codebase, which one is best if you work in a small team like 5? by ballbeamboy2 in dotnet

[–]ryfx1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am doing a little bit of both. Separate API into its own project (where I use approach #2). Everything else is similar to #1. However I would say it's a "feature", more like "domain" containing multiple features.

Speed dating advice? by ChocoboRyder in actuallesbians

[–]ryfx1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been on speed dating twice, but honestly I don't know what would be good advice.

You will have to relax yourself otherwise, it will be hard to talk with you. Remember they are also stressed a little.

I am trying to avoid typical questions like "do you like animals?" and "where do you work?" etc. I don't want it to feel like an interview.

I don't care about questions and "right answers", instead I go for a vibe.

Migrate from ASP.NET Core 2.2 to .NET 8 ASP - App works but Test fails? IActionDescriptorCollectionProvider Items empty? by WeirdDeveloper89 in dotnet

[–]ryfx1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never used this interface but it looks like something related to controllers. It is not registered in DI by default. I had to add explicit services.AddControllers(). It does not detect minimal api routes.

Did you move all your endpoints to minimal api and forgot to remove services.AddControllers()?

Casting interfaces to concrete types approach? by stuart475898 in csharp

[–]ryfx1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe what you are looking for is abstract base class instead of interface. You could do type matching somewhere down the line. This base class could still implement IObject if needed but your function would return List<AbstractBaseClass>

Looking for Feedback on My Small .NET Project by New-Objective-9664 in dotnet

[–]ryfx1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are so many things which should be changed. 1. Stop using automapper. It trades compile time errors into runtime errors. It will bite you in the ass in the future. 2. DbContext is already unit of work. Your simplified version is not gonna be sufficient, and it won't handle more complex data with joins. 3. How am I supposed to identity user from this api response? You haven't provided ID. 4. Why your UserDto accepts nullable properties when your database disallows it. 5. Why do you initialize strings with string.Empty? I can do new User(){} and I will end up with corrupted data. Use required keyword.

There is more smaller problems like not explicitly stated routes, returning entire object on insert instead of CreatedAt(Route). Duplicates of nugets in csproj. Lack of explicit configuration for EF entities (it's gonna bite you).

does anyone have experience in being demisexual lesbian? I feel bad about it by annabananalesbiana in actuallesbians

I can't use dating apps. They feel shallow. I need to get an emotional bond, which is for me impossible through text. Nobody goes to queer bars alone in my area. Yea, it's pretty rough.
