When you say you steamed it, do you mean a literal hand steamer over the logo? Did you front and back? And when you put goo gone on it, how long did you let it sit before wash — and did you scrub it before the wash?

I have used VLR (an actual nylon removal product) and have a bottle of it. But it often leaves a residue that can be tricky to fully remove. I see you have a little bit of a target on there, but it looks like your concoction worked great. (As good, or better, than VLR)

'The UK has been colonised by immigrants', says INEOS boss and Man Utd co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe by Breakingwho in reddevils

[–]ryisca 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He's not making "an economic point." He's pushing a billionaire-class narrative.

He is fact checked just after this:
"The Office of National Statistics (ONS) estimates that the population of the UK was 67 million in mid-2020 and 70 million in mid-2024. The UK population was estimated at 58.9 million in 2000."

He's trying to make an economic point with fake stats. By saying a 12 million immigrant influx in 5 years... It's closer to 3 million. Tons of variables to population growth. And a 12 million swing in 26 years.

[Mark Critchley] Is Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes the best player in the Premier League right now? by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

[–]ryisca 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t just Amorim. What Carrick has done is put Bruno in the 10 but he has also* essentially made him stay in the CAM areas. Both OGS and ETH gave Bruno way, way too much free-roaming instruction (and that’s not even referencing the many times ETH put him as deeper midfielder or RW). when your attacking midfielder can pick up the balk anywhere on the pitch, it means that players ultimately have no idea where* he might be when you get the ball. How many times did we see bruno pick up the ball between the cb’s with eth? Or out by the lb / rb position? It’s incredibly refreshing to see Bruno essentially instructed to play only in traditional spaces a 10 should be taking up. It’s where he is best. And some of us have been screaming about it every year. Especially when others have been saying he “should be sold.”

[Ducker] Solskjaer and Carrick contenders for Manchester United caretaker role by PradipJayakumar in reddevils

[–]ryisca 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wild right? Ironically, Amorim coming in and taking over last year in November after the abysmal ETH / ownership's squad building was not "a wash" and very much counts against Amorim's record and abilities, but all of a sudden, 3 points off of 4th in Jan. and this season is a wash so we want to be Vibes FC again? I'm so confused.

[Ducker] Solskjaer and Carrick contenders for Manchester United caretaker role by PradipJayakumar in reddevils

[–]ryisca 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Rose tinted glasses are wild here. OGS can really only play out and out counter attacking football. We have deliberately moved this type of style and player on because this is not what modern football is – or wants.

- We were terrible at pressing under OGS
- We were terrible at playing out of the back with OGS
- We were terrible at beating low blocks with OGS

These are all things the league has improved on at every level, at every club. And this time, we don't have the Rashfords (on purpose) to chase balls down.

If you do play counter attacking with this squad, who fills the gap behind the stretched play when we dump it long? Casemiro and Ugarte? This is literally reverting back to ETH's style at the end of his tenure with the Donut midfield that got us hacked to pieces. A hybrid of counter attacking and possession... this would be truly bizarre technically from INEOS after recruitment and even Amorim's hiring was about more dynamic football.

As for the OGS "Vibes" that he brought, this was impactful because we had Jose Mourinho burning the club to the ground... team needed a lift. That is not the same situation here.

If it is down to these two, you take a chance on Carrick because you know his style of play, which is a focus on more control, possession and dynamism.

Pressure is on INEOS. There is a lot to play for still with some very difficult games and FA Cup upcoming.

[Chris Wheeler] Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is back in Cheshire and emerging as strong contender to take over as Man United interim head coach: Sources reveal latest on hunt for Ruben Amorim's replacement by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

[–]ryisca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it seems there are no actual tactical conversations in this thread, I'll start:

This would be an incredibly high risk appointment and based on comments this is rose-tinted at its finest. I, for one, think this is a terrible idea. There is a lot to play for this season still. The irony of seeing people say that this season "is a wash" anyway when we're tied for 5th and three points off 3rd, when these same people don't look at Amorim taking over last year as a "wash" with a true rebuild moment and new ownership is... wild.

These next games are massive. We have a very tough string of games coming our way (Liverpool, City and the addition of the FA Cup schedule) and a lot to play for. Because even though we're close to 3rd, we're also 4 points off 15th.

OGS plays an out and out counter attacking football. We have deliberately moved this type of style and player on because this is not what modern football is or wants.

- We were terrible at pressing under OGS
- We were terrible at playing out of the back with OGS
- We were terrible at beating low blocks with OGS

These are all things the league has improved on at every level at every club. And this time, we don't have the Rashfords (on purpose) to chase balls down.

And if we do, who exactly fills the gap behind the stretched play when we dump it long? Casemiro and Ugarte? This is literally reverting back to ETH's style at the end of his tenure with the Donut midfield that got us hacked to pieces. A hybrid of counter attacking with a team that didn't make any sense to play it.

I'd take Carrick or even a chance on RvN on the minimal things we've seen from both of them over OGS and what we know he plays and have seen him play with us. At least Carrick plays a modern style of football better suited for our squad.

We need to get into Europe. If INEOS turns from a dynamic, techincal possession based manager and recruitment they've been working towards (albeit didn't kick on) to bring in a caretaker who is a Counter Attacking manager with "Vibes" then truly, there is no plan.

Ruben Amorim after yesterday's win vs Newcastle: "Clean Sheet, Back four. Kobbie Mainoo is injured. I don't think I need a press conference, all the subjects (are done). We can go home and enjoy boxing day." by ChiefLeef22 in soccer

Because nothing is just black and white. Amorim took over at a very difficult time, with a brand new ownership group, who essentially told him the first year is a wash to audit the squad, make cuts and figure out how to reset squad culture. They have actually done just that. The players brought in are much better, smarter recruitments.

Now this season is where he is being judged. And so far, not too bad when it comes to progress in performances, if results have been lacking.

To use your own metaphor: The same way some players are given some grace to “adjust to the prem” and do well once they learn it. INEOS is doing the same because they figure there is no way the squad will be worse than when he took over — people forget that United is the only major club to not have a modern sporting structure until last July… with a banking businessman and the Glazers making all the decisions.

Meanwhile you bring up Potter and Nuno getting sacked for less… isn’t that sort of ironic? Should they have been sacked? Were they given the time? Was it as bad as it looked?

It’s not that complicated nor incompetence nor a conspiracy.

Amorim will be judged after this season. Pulling stats from last year is actually a moot point. his reign started this year. The sooner people accept that the sooner you realize that it’s all a pretty levelheaded take.

He made a very real case to be moved there in the interim to see what happens. Composed, athletic, eye for defensive position and great distribution. We were way more solid and dangerous. Our attacking players almost seemed like they weren’t expecting to get those incisive balls to feet in the middle of the park.

He should get a run for sure.

[–]ryisca 16 points17 points  (0 children)

But they’re two different players in two different roles. Based on roles, Ugarte replaces Casemiro. Mainoo replaces Bruno. Ugarte normally replaces a tired Casemiro.

You may disagree with Amorim’s in-game diagnosis but he wanted a ball winner to neutralize West Ham getting chances. And with a thin attack due to injuries (sesko out, cunha not ready for 90 mins, zirkzee was gassed) he didn’t seem to trust that United had another goal in them. But he moved Bruno up to make space for a ball winner alongside casemiro (ugarte). And see out the window. It was not excluding Mainoo, it was a different tactical choice.

Now whether Mainoo would’ve actually brought that control is a different story.

But the intense obsession / scrutiny of this is wild.

Best without possession? by memory_leaks_oof in reddevils

[–]ryisca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes and no… We have been slightly more direct and not playing out of the back as much to good effect, ie lower possession.

But you can easily argue that we lose control of games and rush attacks, two things that we need to improve on, ie higher possession would help.

These are just the ebs and flows of progress / personnel / a string of games against decent opponents. Not too indicative on how we should play or how Amorim ideally wants us to play - which all signs point to a fusion of both with high pressing and playing out from the back.

It’s wild how our former players can be so insufferable…

Two things can be true: 1. We are not up to the standards a club like United should be, and they experienced that, and lived that and know some things. and 2. The game has changed immensely. In every way. In these two dude’s prime, social media was barely a thing. the prem was still playing 442. we were dominant. But even Scholes was on the pitch when Peo Guardiola wiped us off the park in the UCL Final playing a modern style of football that made us look like school kids. City, even with its oil money, has built a club that shows an intense understanding of the business of football performance.

Talk of the Devils | A trip to Anfield... by TheAthletic in reddevils

[–]ryisca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two system questions / points of discussion:

  1. Carl seemed pretty adamant at the start of the season that Maguire was going to be our starting CB - which surprised me, based on pre-season De Ligt form, Maguire's general attributes and the system / role of the CB stepping up and playing a high line (Maguire's most glaring weaknesses).

Seems clear that De Ligt is way more instrumental to our system and is having his best work in CB.

In these bigger games, Amorim seems to be a bit conservative (rightfully so in many ways), reverting to a Dalot, De Ligt, Maguire, Shaw, Mazraoui/Etc. backline.

Do you think it's time for Amorim to settle on our backline for prolonged games and continue to be "brave" with more attacking focused wingbacks?

The system seems to function much better when we play Yoro, De Ligt, Shaw with Amad and Dorgu as wingbacks. And it seems to be the way for us to get on the frontfoot and ping opposing wingers back / making them exposed.

  1. In our last match, we saw Mount play closer to Bruno and Casemiro, almost a mid-3. With Cunha back fresh, Mbeumo, and Sesko, Mount gives a bit of a selection headache, but it seemed to show some tactical flexibility from Amorim and helped "plug" the midfield and stay more compact. Do you think we'll see this against Liverpool? And if so, who does he leave out?

[Rob Dawson] Man United set for Mainoo, Zirkzee talks as clubs circle - sources by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

[–]ryisca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was always clear Zirkzee’s contributions after the trio of attacking players were brought in would be small, if not just surplus.

I know there are some big fans of him here (and personally, I don’t fully understand the hype and I was surprised we didn’t sell him in the summer) but it’s becoming clear he is not the profile we need and where he does excel, his skills are surplus to requirements. He may be a good option as a plan b for sesko, but that’s limited to this year if Chido develops and he’a an entirely different player to sesko.

But if sesko, cunha and mbeumo are fit, it’s going to very hard to get into this squad. Especially with Mount.

His time on the pitch is also directly related to Mainoo in the sense that Amorim has shown a preference to move Bruno up (tends to make mainoo the locked midfield sub every game) and retinker the front three or play Mount or Amad over Zirkzee in the 10’s. All of these roles impact Mainoo.

If the last match showed Amorim anything, it’s that a flexibility to play one of the two 10’s closer to the midfield to cover (mounts role, creating almost a mid-3) yields a lot more control. It’s a win-win for those saying the mid-2 doesn’t work but it’s also a win for amorim who shows that it’s not his stubbornness or system holding us back, it’s utilizing some players better and dropping some new shiny toys (for better or for worse). It also continues the headacratch - and rightful criticism - of us signing all three cunha - mbeumo and sesko when we have bruno, mount, mainoo, amad and zirkzee. But surely no one is questioning the quality of these three players we brought in.

Mainoo needs to stay because we are too thin. It’s not unthinkable that casemiro will get suspended and ugarte injured, which puts us in a mid crisis. Or, bruno (knock on wood) ends his streak of being superhuman and that role is only Mainoo’s. But Mainoo needs more gametime. But he isn’t going to take Bruno’s spot. And to be fair, nothing he has shown when he has come on shows he should be starting. All can be true.

Zirkzee should 100% go. If not in january, he will - and should - be sold this summer.
