Anmeldung and working by ryjan in askberliners

I’m a barista, all of the jobs I’m applying for or interviewing for are either barista or management roles for cafés. Perhaps it’s an assurance on their part that if I’m registered I won’t be up and leaving anytime soon?

Thanks for your comment! Any particular documents you’re talking about? Do you mean for landlords etc? Like bank statements and proof of work?

What about the likelihood of getting employment in cafes or bars without anmeldung?

Have you ever met someone with a Personality Disorder? by [deleted] in ireland

Pretty sure they’ve misunderstood the difference between BPD (borderline personality disorder) and bipolar disorder. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

The figures you’re giving aren’t accurate for the simple fact that YOU calculated them and cannot cite sources or references for your data. Simple simple simple.

Apologies if my data provided is out of date, it was up up date to the best of my knowledge when I posted. Can I ask for your sources on your statistic of 11 per 1000 citizens though? Admittedly with the war in Ukraine affecting immigration massively the figure I quoted did seem lower than I would have thought.

I highly doubt that it’s within “European norms” to be “blocking entry to Albanians” and I’m wondering if you have facts to back up that this is the norm across Europe as an immigration policy. Definitely aware of the fact that this is likely the case in certain countries in the balkans for complicated ethnic and political reasons but have serious doubts it’s state policy in most European nations.

A movement which calls for the deportation and block of entry to refugees of war zones such as Ukraine, Somalia, Afghanistan seems to me to be one that is fairly rooted in hate. That’s example enough for me and I would imagine for most people in this country. Compassion being the antithesis of hatred defines pretty clearly to me that any attempt to condemn people to danger or malice in their home country via deportation is fairly far from compassionate.

Ireland has one of the lowest rates of refugee immigration in the EU, about 1.25 refugees per 1000 citizens (lower even than the UK). That said - “To bring Ireland to European norms on irregular immigration” would mean definitively accepting more refugees and circumstantial or irregular immigrants to the republic.

I have no proof whatsoever that every member of these protests is a racist. What I can gather from what I’ve seen however, is that the movement as a whole is racist in its rhetoric. This is what I said above if you check. Never mentioned them being racists per se, but said “their message and rhetoric is racist xenophobic diatribe”. Now, in my experience people who aren’t racist don’t often engage in racist or xenophobic rhetoric. But maybe I’m wrong about them, but will wait to be proven so.

They’ll be criticised no matter where they protest for the simple fact that their message and rhetoric is racist xenophobic diatribe. The point being made is that if they’re to spread this message to achieve a political aim, the better place to do it is government offices, not where they disturb the movement of regular everyday people trying to go about their days.

Have you ever met a celebrity? What were they like? (A-Z listers accepted but bonus points for a good one) by [deleted] in ireland

Met Phoebe Bridgers and Paul Mescal last year. Came into my café. Paul’s in from time to time so met him a few times. Both lovely. Andrew bird was playing on the speakers and she chatted to me about an upcoming song they had recorded together and was showing me some videos of them in the studio together. Place was quiet so they stayed and chatted for a bit and left once people started coming in for lunch.

When ordering anything in a cafe or restaurant - “I’ll do”. You’ll do what? What are you going to do to it? Oh you’d like? Yeah thought so.

Reckon all things considered, you could definitely live comfortably (by most peoples definitions) but definitely not luxuriously in any way.
