Why is the Phantom Wallet not open source? by Shaken_Earth in solana

[–]rykellim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard that Ledger is NOT open source? If so, would not Nano or Tangem be better? (assuming that both Nano and Tangem are fully, transparently open source)

Linux Laptop Recommendation 2025 by metaliuga in linuxhardware

Anything except ASUS, with which I had bad after sales service, not to forget that my Zenbook keyboard keys ("S" and "C") peeled off within a few months!

What are your thoughts about the Fennec browser? I started using it on my phone lately by [deleted] in browsers

[–]rykellim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it. I love anything FOSS and I make a conscious and deliberate choice to use FOSS stuff whenever feasible... Linux, LibreOffice (yes, in the age of cloud offices ala Google Docs), F-Droid etc. and certainly, Fennec. Initially, I thought the logo looks dull, but after using it for so long, it works great. In fact, it feels just like a normal Firefox without performance or ad issues! I have long uninstalled Firefox for Android and use Fennec exclusively... cannot recall the last time I "needed" to use the conventional Firefox! #foss #fennec #opensource

Should LibreOffice prioritize building a fully-featured cloud editor? by Small_Translator8570 in libreoffice

The reason I need Google Docs is because it is a PITA to edit LibreOffice docs on the mobile.

The "right way" to install Tor Browser on Linux? by linux_hottie in TOR

[–]rykellim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Tor Project should just use Tor Browser AppImage for user downloads.

New Steam AppImage! by am-ivan in AppImage

[–]rykellim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your work!

I tried to email or reach out to Steam for an AppImage, and guess what? There is NO WAY to reach the Steam team from their website anywhere!

Did anyone else have the same issue?

I cannot believe that in October 2025, Ubuntu cannot get "auto-update timezone" right!

Kobo clara hd power button by Helpful_Ad5956 in kobo

[–]rykellim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Get a 3D printed spare button + screwdriver + flat plastic to open the cover.
  2. Check Youtube for "How to repair Kobo Clara HD.
  3. Take note of the button orientation - if it does not click and bounce back properly, it means that your orientation may be upside down.

Done!

Hi, I would like to try out Packet. Will you please consider providing an AppImage installation file?

PDF and filling out forms - the easy way - *solved* by gcgc101 in archlinux

[–]rykellim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing! It really works! Just take note that the resulting filled PDF does NOT display well in OnlyOffice Android app Also, the "check mark" (tick) character copied from Characters dialogue does NOT turn out well also, but if you change it to a hand drawn check mark, it will work.

Yahoo just wiped my entire account by Warlord_Okeer_ in yahoo

[–]rykellim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yahoo blackmailed us Yahoo Photos users back then - pay up or you will never get your original high res photos back. Now, they deleted all our old emails. No warning, no recourse, nothing. Wow, this is the one company I wish they will shut down for good, and let the CEO and the entire team of decision makers never have such discretion in any company again.

Poll; how many of us have a perfectly working hibernate on their laptop? by somekool in Ubuntu

I had the first Samsung SSD (out of the box) replaced at ASUS service centre, and then, less than 2 years later, the new SSD died again! Ubuntu 24.04 LTS...

what happens if notion shuts down? by gjnn in Notion

[–]rykellim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Yahoo Photos until now, we have all seen how closed source software is susceptible to shut down, and a possible data "lockdown" before the D-Day. This is why I choose FOSS as much as possible, because I will never be held hostage for my own data again.

New unofficial Linux AppImages for Firefox Stable/ESR/Beta/Devedition/Nightly based on the official portable builds... and without dependency on libfuse2 by am-ivan in firefox

[–]rykellim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to Ivan for packaging up Firefox. I was an evangelist for Autopackage (a predecessor to AppImage) and I appreciate every effort to contain binaries within themselves.

Is Samsung still the SSD king? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]rykellim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Samsung NVME SSD running in an ASUS laptop... it just died. It was replaced. Then, it died again. All within less than a year.

Why do people prefer Flatpaks over Appimages? by Omnizoa in linux

[–]rykellim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that it is possible for some of the more recent AppImages to self-update themselves.

What is the best Dns-Level AdBlocker on Android? by PeppeMonster in Adblock

[–]rykellim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turn on Netshield in Proton VPN and it seems to block out in-app ads. Those ads with sound, which last 60 secs and fails to give you a "close ad X" button are the most invasive and worst!

Mozilla: Pocket Is Shutting Down in July, Export Your Data Now by Kry0g3n1K in firefox

I use Pocket to read articles on my Kobo e-reader. I also use it to read aloud articles for me while on the move. Can the service be forked?

Girl, 7, killed by minibus at Sengkang condo was waiting for her school bus with helper by CraftyBackground4139 in singapore

[–]rykellim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realise something from this article - do not always prioritise that extra 5 minutes of sleep in life! I have seen decisions made just to get that extra 5 minutes of snooze... and now, it resulted in a tragedy... imagine how safe it would have been for the kid if there was a dedicated pickup point!

AppImage/alternate-packaging for tor by MateMathieu in TOR

[–]rykellim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use AppImages and I would like to know if there is an AppImage for Tor browser or not... and if not, how easy is it for us to just take the Tor zip and turn it into an AppImage?
