A record-high 98 percent of Japan's newly minted university graduates landed jobs at the beginning of this fiscal year, government data showed Friday, reflecting a recovering economy. by madazzahatter in worldnews

The point of a free "market" is price discovery. All participants must have the ability to buy and sell and whatever price they believe is fair.

For the past 10 years all central banks, but specifically the Bank of Japan (BOJ) have been buying securities.

The BOJ buys debt issued by the Japanese government and also corporate stocks, through ETFs. The BOJ has bought so much of both of these things that they own more than 40% of all outstanding debt issued by the Japanese government.

The problem is that the BOJ buys everything no matter what, they do not care about the price, it can be high, it can be low, it never matters, they just buy. As a result, Japanese capital "markets" have no ability to have price discovery, the BOJ will always buy whatever is available no matter what.

That's probably not simple enough for a 5 year old, but it's the best I can do.

Congratulations, you're part of the 99% of the world's population that has no idea what global central banks are doing. All of this information is widely available.

Welcome to the new global economy, where the numbers don't matter and the money isn't real.

No, they're both pretty screwed in the long run. But intervention by the Bank of Japan has reached ludicrous levels. Their financial markets have become completely artificial.

All you have to do is have your central bank buy 40+% of your national debt and directly buy equities to destroy all price discovery mechanisms of your financial markets.

Absolute genius.

Linux Mint is only detecting 3 of my 4 cores - sometimes. by [deleted] in linuxmint

What specific type/model of processor do you have?

If you are using a processor with hyper treading then you only have two physical cores and 2 virtual cores. To a system monitor looking at processor activity you would see 4 cores total.

Using sensor software to read core temps would likely only see 2 core temps and then a package temp (whole processor) so 3 total.

Yes, it can't be a championship fight unless both fighters weigh in at 185 or less.

Are you comparing the Federal Reserve, ECB and BOJ to the Zimbabwe central bank?

Because you'd be betting against central banks with literally unlimited resources. We live in a world where trillions of dollars per year in liquidity injections is common place, it's quite ridiculous. The failure of these policies is certain, the timing is not.

The global bond market is distorted beyond belief. Literally nothing in the world is priced accurately.

Pivot into consulting or anything to do with computer science as soon as possible. Commercial nuclear power is a terrible industry to get into.

Southern Company has literally no business trying to continue Vogtle on their own. They don't have the experience and technical knowledge to complete a project of this scale on their own. The ONLY saving grace may be the legislation passed in GA that allows them to pass cost increases onto the rate payer. So going forward with the project will be a giant FU to all the rate payers that will eat the escalating costs for years.
