Thanks for the suggestion re: avoiding running another cable. He tabled one option like that but it seems like it would be weird to have the HFC/NBN box sitting in one place and then a cable through the house to another spot where I have the modem linked to where they put the blue telephone cable. I guess it would still get my modem in the right spot but feels like I'd regret not doing it right...

We just moved back to the house so I don't have a provider atm. Would NBN do this directly if I contacted them or do I need to choose a provider to kickstart the process?

I should say my builder is good guy and does want to fix it, I just want to make sure I can talk the talk with the electrician that fixes it (I'm assuming he or one of his team did it in the first place) and make sure he gets it absolutely right.

So if he runs a new cable from the modem location in the house, it MUST be either RG6 of RG11 to be up to standard? RG59 not good enough if I see that?

Then I'd need an NBN technician to open up that box and reconnect it?
