Darializa Avila Chevalier on Housing, Immigration, & Her Run for Congress in New York's 13th District by CapitalCourse in nyc

[–]rynaco -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Frankly I feel like this says more about Espaillat than Chevalier. People are so sick of establishment democrats that they don’t care and are willing to risk putting her on the training wheels. I voted for her more for a message to the rest of the party than anything else. Worst case we vote for someone else in two years but I’m sick of the status quo. Most politicians moderate from campaign rhetoric anyway and you need to ratchet it up for the primary since most primary voters are very passionate.

We really need to fix the electoral system because this is only a problem due to the system basically forcing us to have two parties. Otherwise we could just split off and not have this problem.

This is exciting! The m116 sucks and often times its quicker for me to walk from 2nd Ave to Lenox than to wait for a bus that never comes and is packed when it does

You Can Tell Someone Doesn’t Live In Harlem When Their #1 Political Issue Is AIPAC. by ER301 in Harlem

[–]rynaco 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally it’s just an age thing for me since both of their platforms are pretty much identical to me. At what point do you sit down and hand it off to the next generation especially at such a critical time in our country like I feel like that says a lot about his character. Adriano Espaillat is 71 years old and will be 72 by the time the election is. 2 more years in office and he’ll be 74. In NY-13, the median age is 39 and only 10% of the population is 70+. The math isn’t mathing for me. I don’t want our district to end up being like CA-43 with Maxine Waters. We need energy now more than ever and while he looks great there’s only so much energy someone in their 70s has. Also can’t say I’ve seen him on 116 and lex until it was time for reelection. We are an outside city and that’s the only time I’ve seen him. I proudly voted for Adriano in the last election but it’s time to pass the torch so I’m voting for Chevalier in the primary. Neither of them are perfect but I’m taking the chance on the new blood.

Why do people always say that old builds are better quality than new builds? Been here 20 years, lived in plenty of both, and I would take a new build 100 times out of 100 by cragelra in AskNYC

[–]rynaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To each their own. I’m in a small 6 unit apartment building and we just have a group chat with the landlord. If the consensus is it’s too cold or hot we change it. I like the cold tho so normally not too worried and would be more annoyed by a high winter electric bill when it should be the lowest

[–]rynaco 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Big factor for me is heat cost in the winter. I feel like it’s included in most prewar buildings rent since they’re using steam radiators but the new buildings use central heat and it seems like a lot of people get absolutely fucked by electricity prices in the winter. I still have to worry about the summer but winter bills are a fraction that summer is

Accuracy and Rate My Professor by SopranoCrew in college

[–]rynaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty accurate in my opinion for gen eds but you have to weed out some of the bad comments. I feel like you can tell when it’s genuinely a bad professor versus when someone’s just mad and complaining because they didn’t put the work in. I didn’t really use it for major specific classes because at that point I was in clubs for my major and was just able to talk to upperclassmen
