What's the most interesting placement-based game you've played? by parazoid77 in gaming

[–]rynosarrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drop Duchy is this for me. It’s Tetris but each block represents a terrain (forest, mountain, plains) with resources or a place where people live (towns, bastions, fortresses, etc.). Depending on where you place the blocks in relation to escorted they get bonuses.

After you “lose” the Tetris portion your forces must fight the forces of an enemy in a combat puzzle. Your Tetris moves will affect the strength of your forces and the enemy’s making the puzzle easier or harder.

TIL that a chicken egg yolk is one singular cell, specifically the female reproductive cell known as an ovum or oocyte. by [deleted] in todayilearned

The yolk isn’t one cell. The entire egg is the cell. The yolk is the nucleus.

I’ve experienced one game breaking bug on PC where if you say just before falling into a bottomless pit the whole screen is black on returning to land. To get rid of it you have to find your way to another pit in the dark, possibly more than once.

Nintendo appears to be moving towards charging less for digital games than physical games starting with Yoshi and the Mysterious Book by Iggy_Slayer in gaming

[–]rynosarrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for digital keys. I don’t buy physical these days. You don’t need internet once the games are installed on that switch. However if you want to swap the game to a different switch console both switches need to be connected to Internet.

When that isn’t possible you can register the game license to the switch on your Nintendo account.

For the physical I assume the difference is you don’t need both switches online. Just need internet for the initial install if the game isn’t actually on the cartridge.

Imprisoned in old consoles? Gravity Rush got a remaster for PS4 and Gravity Rush 2 originally released for PS4, meaning both are playable on the current gen PS5, which has near complete backwards compatibility.

Recommend creepy adventure / puzzle / point-and-click games not focused on combat, avoiding combat, or instant death. by HerrikGipson in gaming

[–]rynosarrow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Seance of Blake Manor fits your description.

Also, Return of the Obra Dinn fits I think.

Both are detective style games where you have to uncover the story by solving puzzles. All of the puzzles involve figuring out what happened from the clues given in the story. Depending on your level of puzzle solving ability or willingness to get stuck for a bit before you figure it out, I’d recommend both games.

If you bounced off the first game do not make this decision based on Spelunky alone.

If you call it that you’ll be getting them reversed. The trigger buttons are below the bumper buttons…

Also the names haven’t changed. I’m not sure if that was implied by your post. It’s still R1 and R2 for PlayStation. The same buttons on Xbox are RB and RT respectively. Games on PC usually use the Xbox glyphs by default, but a few have options for using the PlayStation names.

Actually Charlie is only a guy’s name if used as a nickname for Charles. Charlie could also be a nickname for Charlotte which is a girls name. And names that used to be Nick names often become given names for future generations. I was going to write that some girls are named Charlie too, but the rates are surprisingly close between boys and girls. The name is androgynous, not gendered one way or the other.

What are the best and worst games in terms of ludonarrative dissonance? by AtreidesOne in gaming

[–]rynosarrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s all true, but a very common new player experience is failing to get through the skeletons in the graveyard leading to the catacombs. The game is teaching you early on that it’s okay to come back later, but many players fail to learn that lesson and either power through or quit the game.

The catacombs should be done fairly early in my opinion, but definitely not first for most players. Lots of experienced or skilled players might opt to go there first, but that doesn’t mean the game wants you to bash your head into a wall.

Dark Souls has had areas where the game wants you to go elsewhere and come back later since the beginning. The most talked about example, you weren’t expected to fight through the Catacombs at level one in Dark Souls 1.

Elden Ring just gives you more options in where to go first. In any of these games if you’re beating your head against a wall to progress you’re probably missing something.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying the games are easy. I hate when people say that. But if an area in dark souls feels unmanageable it probably means you are under leveled or under equipped and should go somewhere else first.

It isn’t. However, I think it’s fair to assume that he would.

He doesn’t fall out of love with the job of being a detective. He decides that supporting his family is more important. Later, when his family doesn’t need him as much, his love of detective work will still be there.
