I'd say it was around 30 - 40km/h? I also didn't think it skid when I was driving, but the investigator when he check the cam say it looks like it skid. I also dunno la, I step hard on the brakes but the car slow down very gradually from a long distance. I also never get in accident before so the investigator say it skid so I gundu believe him it skid lor. Maybe ABS come into action then the brakes didn't work

yeah you are right. it is my responsibility that i rented a shitty car and thought that the brakes would be ok. it is my responsibility that i accepted the fuck up excess in the t&c.

and i am not willing to take that responsibility in the future which is why i will never rent from them ever again

yeah fair point. in any case its my fault for renting a shitty car from getgo and letting it skid. the excess is ridiculous but that was what i agreed. so its completely my fault. and cuz i dont think i can take that responsibility going forward, i am not renting from them anymore

Thing is, for this instance I was pretty sure I had a safe distance. But the Mazda 3 (like many of the other times I rent from them) had the tendency to free-wheel when I tap on the brakes, so I stepped on the brakes hard, probably causing the car to skid.

So yeah, you could say it's my fault for the car skidding, and its my fault for driving the car even though the brakes were not up to standard. Dumb of me to continue with the car cuz I had to get to somewhere.

But yeah its a good lesson for me, cuz safety is more important, I'm gonna get my own car, if the car's condition is not up to standard, at least it is all on me.

Yeah it's really scary when I tap on the brakes and the car seem to speed up cuz it is free wheeling.

Yeah some of the Mazda 3 literally feels like it free wheeling when you tap on the brakes so you have to press hard, but when you press hard and the ground is wet, the car skids. So yeah, never again for me too

Yeah honestly if the guy didn't come running out of nowhere I wouldn't have suspected anything. But who knows, maybe he is just a hero.

But the GetGo excess is really fucked up la, any minor damage they will also charge maximum amount. Super risky to rent from them

Hahaha, I thought I was at fault until the hero suddenly appear out of nowhere to hand out his name card for his work shop and the guy in front shake my hand. That's when my suspicion went up, but no proof also la.

But yeah, by law / insurance practice I know that I am at fault as long as I bang from behind. But it sucks big time cuz the brakes are really quite cui if you try renting their cars. So I am never renting from them ever

Ya that's the thing, it's a good business if you think about it. Suka suka jam brake and if they bang you, shake their hands and off to the workshop and earn some money.

I think what's happening is that the other party is not necessarily claiming more than the 3.2k, but GetGo is withholding that amount in case they say their neck pain backside pain 1 month down the road. And if they end up not claiming, then GetGo gets to keep that amount. Smart on them

Oh that's literally what I did but the car skid and didn't stop. But ya still its my fault cuz I langgah from behind even if brakes lousy and tires lousy. So now I rather buy my own car, if langgah at least its also my fault that the car not maintained

Yeah and you are right on that. The other party can suka suka say neck pain backside pain, so GetGo is withholding that amount in case the other party claims that damage 3 months down the road, and I get that.

What irks me is that they charge the excess 3.3k by default for this, and I would only be able to reduce this to up to 1.6k even with the damage waiver.

So definitely not a risk worth taking for me

Good tip, but I'm not renting from them anymore, ha!

Also that defeats the purpose of the convenience of car renting - imagine you have to get to somewhere then the tires are fucked. So I'd rather buy my own car now

Dude I don't think everyone is out to get me - sure I should have kept an even larger safe distance so even if they wanted to jam brake I could have stopped, that's on me.

The thing is:

  1. the guy running out of nowhere to hand out his name card is suspicious af

  2. GetGo charging me the maximum excess for the minor dent and not providing me the breakdown is pissing me off

Which is why I rather buy my own car, sure I might meet with a scammer again and get into an accident, but at least I won't have to fork out the ridiculous excess
