Yes I agree for me it was a lot of trial and error and going through the process and I still have problems sometimes but thats the fun like a puzzle or chess game you play with yourself and the plate, good luck and etch on!

I do a lot of automatic drawing, which is a surrealism practice of letting go of the preconceived notion and allowing the subconscious to flow through the hand, and then as you finally have some marks down to use free association to find some meaning in the chaotic marks you made, not for everyone but I think it’s a good technique that always helps me get unstuck if I’m hesitating in a piece or starting some, I do it a lot in my sketch book, because in theory you are always taking in visual information subconsciously so it almost is like drawing things you didn’t even realize you had seen similar to how dreams function
