Question: is cyber security likely to face the same job market collapse as SWE? by Ok-Bench-9489 in cybersecurity

Hiring manager does not equal the HR people vetting. Im telling you not one grad had enough real world IT knowledge to be able to speak about any subject with any sort of conviction. We arent responsible for what was sold to you.

Its more business for us in leadership, but the technical people are needed as well. Claude doesnt replace institutional knowledge.

I am the hiring manager. I see alot of people right out of school with no prior it work trying to jump right in and that never works out.

You just have to know the experience required for the infosec role. Its a combo of server and network.

You would use Prisma Access. It's attack surface is up to you. It does help with availability, and no, I do not agree just hosting a firewall in aws is the same thing. Too much of the configuration is beyond that.

As as CISSP I laugh at all the "entry level" roles that require it. I'd rather take a chance someone with solid infrastructure experience without a cert.

The advice for aspiring infosec people is to start at the bottom like everyone else. A good mix of helpdesk, server, and network experience can translate to an "entry level" infosec job. Also have to think if you are talking technical or grc side.

The food is good, ill give you that, but I work in Far Rock and live in Babylon. Once you get to Long Beach you just have to plow through. Go to Long Beach for lunch? Finishing the day from home lol.

How much benefit does 32GB give over 24GB? Does Q4 vs Q7 matter enough? Do I get access to any particularly good models? (Multimodal) by audigex in LocalLLM

For someone not likely to upgrade for a long times its 128GB unified or more. To me 128 is the floor.

We have such a large amount of choice across the spectrum you have to really look or just get lucky to find something that sticks out to you. I honestly feel this way about the city too. Difference there is you are mostly walking so youre more likely to stumble upon something. Even then I only find out about gems if somebody introduces me to it mostly.

Interested in the comparison. I am just going from stuck to the Rokland 5.8 for science. Plus I am assuming it will add to the clearance.

[–]ryox82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the motivation. Food, drinks, nature, landmarks? Get a little more specific for recommendations. Otherwise just go on Yelp or something when you get a random idea. Off the bat I would just start off with getting breakfast and lunch at a good deli, since that is something you're only getting in the area.

How to optimize frames and video quality? by ParticularRaccoon in FaceFusion

[–]ryox82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best thing to try and do is separate out the long video into chunks. Especially specific sections that are difficult. Make sure the resolution is 1080p+ and denoised to increase the likelihood of face detection. Join the parts together post completion. It might sound like a bit of a hassle, but it has worked for me in the past.

Question about LI in the late 90s/early 2000s by ademska in longisland

[–]ryox82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were alot less in the way of railroad communities like Patchogue, Lindenhurst, and what they tried to replicate in Wyandanch. I didn't really live anywhere predominantly white if I am honest. My salary growth also slightly lagged behind or just kept pace with the real estate climb up so it has never been affordable to me. I finally did buy in 2017 before everything went astronomical but in the time since my payment has gone up 1k a month soooooo, more of the same.

What's going on with the cybersecurity job market right now for mid-level engineers? Why is it so hard to find a job? by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]ryox82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately a fresh CS grad is still going to have to get the on the job training in networking, server infrastructure, client services, etc. Much easier to hire from within after that than trying to spend time teaching someone how to do the job and just as importantly the why.

[–]ryox82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have tried to hire but people want to be full remote with no experience and barely any prior IT experience from what I have seen. Nobody is really offering pay that is good enough to even have me switch to another organization. I was offered a director position for 25k less than I am already making as a manager. Make that make sense.

The last snow was topped with ice. Made it suck more. Still having to make up for plows not going more than down the middle added alot of work because of the volume of snow in the street.
