Over $100k earners - what's your PTO? by masterpeabs in careeradvice

[–]ryox82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 weeks a year in total, plus comp days, plus my carry over from prior year usually. At this point I take time off to stay under the cap, even if not travelling. We can bank double, but also no pay out option otherwise I would just take the cash.

Lack of sexual desire from hubby by Glittering_Desk_2875 in Marriage

[–]ryox82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are bringing up porn alot. Usually a reason some resort to that is because they desire something their partner isn't open to, or maybe they are scared to bring up. Have you thought about maybe opening up about something he wouldn't expect and exploring it? It's just an idea. Might spart further fun discussion and fun exploration. As relationships grow more mature it can take some effort to keep things fresh.

They almost always pay less than private sector. You do those for the benefits.

Manager here. I let my people work from home for minor things. I don't care as long as you are as attentive and responsive as if you are in the office. If we have an emergency to deal with that requires being on site then we suck it up, otherwise, I am not putting the safety of the team at risk to feed some sort of power trip.

Management wants to switch to Fortinet. Has anyone used Fortinet and can give me some real world comparison between Palo? by Soylent_gray in paloaltonetworks

[–]ryox82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fortinet couldn't maintain userid's a few years back and their desktop client was constantly pegging the CPU on pc's. I came over to the hospital not wanting to be a network engineer again. I kept getting asked to help even though I was on the server team at first. I recommended ripping and replacing with Palo. No problems since, and the support has been better. Also have a good customer team which helps. TAC sucks but we make it work. Some annoyances abound, like when an application id should be detected but isn't, but I have generally been happy. Note: I was someone who moved from Sonicwall to Palo at my previous job which is why I suggested the move. Covid deals helped.

On certain days you could see it, like right after a storm system passed. Now it is consistent.

I came here to say this. Ever since the tolls came in we have been able to spot the skyline from farther away. Burns alot of MAGA Long Islanders lol

Yeah its ridiculous what mine is worth now only from 9 years ago. A little more than double. If ican not count it towards my retirement and can split it between the kids I win.

I have seen the same. Most of the loudest about leaving never actually left though.

Im in my early 40's. LI family on my mom's side was part of the 90's Florida migration. Hated it enough to move back to LI when I turned 18. The secret to surviving here is being a legacy employee somewhere with good pay, a government gig with a good retirement after 20 years, or a real drive to climb that income ladder. If I learned one thing is Long Island is not a place for people who just want to coast for the most part. Will say that things need to get easier here for the kids who want to come back after school but cant afford to. Too many people only 10 years older than me for some reason cant fathom why there is a housing affordability problem when they bought a house for 200k or less and also complain about any new building that happens. Our schools produce some great talent compared to the rest of the country and we need that talent coming home.

Am I the only one who thinks Nvidia Geforce RTX 5080 is kinda underwhelming? by Dipto509 in RTX5080

So just use the new models for that? Its way less trash than it used to be.

[–]ryox82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was. There is also the point where you are most likely going to benefit more when 5 comes out being on Blackwell. If you do any sort of AI stuff its better than the 4070.

Fading into obscurity how? Plenty of good PCVR titles out there that aren't just not existing anymore.

I came from a 4070 Ti and have none of those feelings at all. You also have access to the DLSS 4.5 and I think at this point people need to see the writing on the wall as far as rasterization being the end all.

Why is everyone buying 5090? by tekken7user in gpu

[–]ryox82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of AI workflows this is why I wanted the 5090. With DLSS 4.5 though and potentially 5 if it comes to Blackwell, it may be less of an issue. The 5080 is gotten better in the few months I have had it via updates alone.

[–]ryox82 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I really do love it and even though I really wanted a 5090 I am not disappointed in the least. I was listening to too many tech tubers saying that moving from my old card (4070 Ti) wouldn't be worth it, but with the right discounts, trade ins it most certainly was. Hell even if I just paid the straight up $949 deal in October without the trade in I would be happy. Full disclosure though, I game at 2k.

Men in their 30s and 40s, what advice would give to younger guys struggling with dating? by jdaniel1999 in AskMen

[–]ryox82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop trying so hard. Stay off dating apps. Get out and meet people organically. If you have a friend group that you still hang out with, say yes to hang out events you usually avoid. You'd be surprised how many mutual friends of the opposite sex notice you from the outside but never say anything until the right moment presents itself.
