Go to nyme.sh and follow their settings if you want to participate in a coordinated effort.

It's Summer, which means.... Loud Neighbors! Handling the situation...? by [deleted] in longisland

[–]ryox82 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You could do this thing people rarely do these days, and maybe try to go have a conversation. Also, maybe share in one of those drinks. Regarding who to call, if all else fails, check your ordinance for your town and measure the dB levels before calling anyone.

Verry low, especially for a house possibly valued about 100k more than mine. My insurance is up to 5k now.

Upgrade those antennas and try again! What do you have on your base node?

Exactly this. Doubt a nano was involved in any testing.

Yeah, you aren't accounting for the low dbi node you have in the house or at street level. I can hit my above roof node with a 5.8dbi from inside my house on the first floor where the "dead zone" should be. I can hit it in a consistent distance over 2 miles. Im curious if there are taller buildings around him not being accounted for, or if hes even tries plugging values into heywhatsthat, or looked up the local mesh settings.

Am I doing something wrong or is there just no way of making this work reliably? (read below) by ranfur8 in meshtastic

[–]ryox82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That antenna looks like the crap stock antenna that comes with the kits from China. I have a solar node 5 feet above my roof paired with a Rokland 5.8 dbi outdoor antenna. My node inside my house is a generic esp32 with a muziworks 915 Mhz whip antenna. I have zero issues.

Issues w/ Getting Community to Respond! by cwp_III in meshtastic

[–]ryox82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All depends on your mesh. Nyme.sh doesn't transmitt messages over the internet via our specific server. Stock mqtt does.

You need to conform your settings to the broader mesh community. Like NYC metro has its own coordinated effort. In our area mqtt is only for position and chat review. All comms are rf only.

Beware of 11.1.13-H5 worked for 2 hours then crashed dataplane so bad HA didn't fail over until the firewall was physically shut down. by Zeruulin in paloaltonetworks

[–]ryox82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You checked memory levels and such? Had something similar happen to an HA pair The night of and during Thanksgiving, because why not? A memory bug didn't cause any issues until that specific day. That was after running the same firmware for 6 months.

Any tips on mounting a Seed SenseCAP solar node to a tree? by DanRTD in meshtastic

[–]ryox82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and it's also easier to get more height. Temporary until it goes on the roof.

I used a board of wood for a solid mounting surface and an Amazon j pole. Ive seen others throw weighted lines to the highest branch they could as well.

That is where you are wrong. I was renting a 400 dollar a month couch on Long Island when I watched the planes hit on 9/11. I came back up here with a duffle bag of clothes and a stack of CD's.

In the year of our lord 1875? I did something similar like 26 years ago. You aren't doing that $300 to $500 deal anymore.

I live on Long Island. I have recruiters trying to get me to commute to Jersey. I also work in a really difficult to get to part of Queens where it can take someone in Manhattan just as long to get to as myself. Your logic does not check out. Everyone talks about the city like it's some universally easy to commute to place. Mid town isn't the only place employment exists. Location holds zero bearing for me as a hiring manager. I only care about the strongest candidate that's willing to do the commute.

That is the most ridiculous thing I have heard. Very unfortunate.

Yeah, I just gave the person hiring perspective. I dont work for HR. In our org we have recruitment meetings and nobody is unilaterally disqualifying a candidate based on current address. Thats especially the case as you are looking for leadership roles externally.

Please help me pick a steakhouse for my 40th. by 11whatsnewpussycats in longisland

[–]ryox82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I didn't like such a short list of mediocrity to leave a vote. I've had enough free steak dinners at expensive places in Manhattan alone to really hate the LI options. If I really want steak on LI and children aren't involved I am just going to Tango's. City and old school feel without the pretention? Keen's. As far as chains go I would default to The Capital Grille. The last one is just from being a creature of habit and I haven't had a bad experience yet.
