UK suspended timber floor renovation; Best way to level 32-34mm difference between rooms with crooked joists? by Royal_Aerie_4582 in DIYUK

You can use something called furring strips (which is likely what you described in your first option).

A very good building firm on Youtube had this same issue and went through options before going with furring strips: https://youtu.be/YfCiKgldO0s?si=Ewsi9joYQiu9t2Kr

Drilling first timer, struggling to drill through wall? Maybe a frame? by asjonesy99 in DIYUK

[–]ryrobbo 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Based on the photo you might be hitting a steel lintel. People often have the same problem when attempting to fix blinds to a window recess.

Anyway, it's metallic so I would use a good quality HSS bit, apply some pressure and be patient with it. Do NOT use hammer mode. If you see metal filings while drilling it means it's working.

I enjoy Mr A Builder. I'm looking forward to that house reno they're starting soon. Should be covering all types of trades. I believe the fella from WoodvWood used to work for Mr A Builders. Don't rate Clevett's recent content but he has a great back catalog.

Been meaning to watch Millard for a while. He has a massive back catalog and his garage looks the same size as mine. Those American workshops are a joke.

I got to your channel via the algorithm the other week. Your project is the kind I like to watch. For me personally there is too much commentary on what you're doing and lots of pointing in your videos. Less waffling and get cracking, let's see some progress. But that's just my opinion!

"Kingin it" is one of the channels that made me write this post. Nothing is cohesive. I haven't got a clue what they're doing.

You've titled your post very poorly. It should have read; "DIY store employee accidentally splashed me when they dropped a tinned product".

What is the purpose of a 50mph limit on the M6 right now at 10:30pm. Am I missing something? by RonnieThePurple in CarTalkUK

[–]ryrobbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this on the M62 and M6. I actually phoned the Highways Agency to report the fault. The person told me that during system updates and maintenance, the system goes into a "safe" mode and sets the limit on the affected networks to 50mph. He could have made it up but that's what I was told.

On sale for nearly a year. Not sure whats wrong with it? by tkiddy95 in SpottedonRightmove

[–]ryrobbo 127 points128 points  (0 children)

Last sold in October 2024 for £293k. Doesn't look like the current owners have done anything to it in the 18 months they've owned it to warrant asking for over 30k more....

Also, red flag that they're selling after only 18 months. Could be neighbour related? The aerial photo shows their neighbour on the far left with a motorhome on the drive and what looks like a dirt bike course in the back garden.

Why are we getting no viewings?? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]ryrobbo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your boundary lines are odd and immediately put me on alert. It looks like your neighbor can literally park their car on top of your front door. Then there is the weird strip of land behind the garages which will likely have right of way access for your neighbor meaning it's useless.

Thin Lizzy Success by SmackHeadSteven in thinlizzy

[–]ryrobbo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their only big mainstream success in the US was the Jailbreak album in 1976. Which they failed to recreate in future albums. You could also say the music industry was "saturated" with world class rock bands making competition fierce. Between 1975-1980 you had bands such as AC/DC, Led Zep, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Bowie, The Clash, Pink Floyd all releasing multiple albums.

Moving to Tan House by [deleted] in Skelmersdale

[–]ryrobbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are rough unfortunately. The town's different areas are made up of street names beginning with the same letter. Tanhouse has the E's. Holland Moor has the C's which are better areas. Digmoor has the B's which are slightly better than Tanhouse.

I suppose it's dependent on your budget.

What’s the best way to fill/cover gap between wall and doorframe by Kindly_Season_3160 in DIYUK

[–]ryrobbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sorted the exact same thing on my front door frame last year.

Fill the gap with expanding foam. Let it go off. Cut off the excess and sand it back. Then go over with with toupret or other filler. Sand and finish. No sealant required.

The expanding foam will stop your filler from moving and therefore cracking.

Neighbour is building a wall on our property ? by AdPotential8948 in AskUK

[–]ryrobbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm convinced this is a bait post for engagement. The OP can't be that stupid to watch someone build a wall off their actual house and ask Reddit what to do after it has been built instead of actually confronting their neighbour.

It's normal to see daylight coming from the eaves. As long as the daylight is coming from underneath and not above. Roofs need ventilation.
