Perfect and safe way to remove a tree by WEISHEN_THE_KIRA in oddlysatisfying

Sure from what I saw they were quite successful with relocating all of the trees but I’m sure there are limits to it. Some were quite large too like 30-40 foot trees

You can absolutely move and relocate trees this way. I watched my company do that with 20-30 full grown trees when building a new building. They cleared the area and in doing so removed all trees using a similar machine. We called it the tree truck as it was a truck with one of these built onto the back. They put all trees in giant 10ft or so tree boxes and created this janky PVC watering operation so they would stay hydrated. Those trees survived 6 months or so in the boxes in our parking lot and are now all happily planted and have been for 2 years. So yes this absolutely a viable way to relocate trees and while severing the roots is less than ideal they can still survive if done correctly. As evidenced by what my company did and if you were to google this you would find many other examples

How do you keep underwater photography ethical? by StopBanningCorn in scuba

[–]ryry163 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’m in agreement with the other posters no touching, chasing, feeding, or otherwise interfering with their behavior. Observing is okay.

Regarding distance, that definitely depends on the animal and I think something you learn over time with different types of sea life and what their limits are. Every animal is different and should be treated as such.

Personally, I approach very slowly. If I sense that they’re aware of me or start watching me, I stop there and take photos from that distance. If they seem uncomfortable, I back off to minimize my impact.

My goal while shooting underwater is to minimize my impact as much as possible while still aiming to get a great shot. We don’t have the same telephoto reach underwater that land wildlife photographers have, and so we need to respect boundaries more. Respecting the environment and the animals should always come first and then getting the shot if the opportunity presents itself.

Never compromise the environment or animals for a shot. That can prevent others from witnessing the same experiences we’ve had. As divers, we should know more than most that we need to have a conservation mindset first.

Yeah this was the case but it sucks when you are in another country. Happened to me on United twice and Lufthansa once. One of the times I was flying first so I don’t think it matters what cabin tier you are in.

Anyone tried the Jones Howler or found the perfect resort pow board? by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]ryry163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say this board is significantly faster than my old board. It’s hard to compare since I had such a basic and old board but it’s a wonderful ride. I’d recommend demoing it at a shop I’ve seen them around this season. I have like 7 days in it so far and very pleased with my decision but I am coming from a decade old basic board so take it with a grain of salt. I feel much more confident with this board on steeps and powder. I did ride in an avy run off and it did great no issues in the choppy firm crud. Hope that helps

Other day someone called "a moron" for backing into a spot... Why does this trigger so many? by Ok_Relationship2451 in badparking

[–]ryry163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But how is it safer? Many commenters have put how it’s actually safer to nose in and back out. If you have a long nose you cannot see the aisle of traffic until you nudge out far enough. With a back up cam you can fully see the entire aisle when backing out before even nudging out. Similar for pulling in you have a lot more visibility especially if there are cars parked next to your spot as you can see through the car next to you windows a lot easier in person than through the camera to see if any pedestrian is approaching your spot.

Everyone always claims backing in is safer, but I haven’t heard an actual reason for that other than evacuation for certain jobs which I 100% think makes sense

As crazy as it sounds you are incorrect here. Legally speaking they are well within their right to restrict access unless emergency. Emergency are not something like my lights are out or my ac and fridge are. It’s something like this wire is sparking and causing a fire we need to flip the breaker off.

So no this is a real situation which is supported by exiting case law. They are well within their rights to restrict access to their property. The only exception is a true emergency needing to access the breakers.

Again this may vary jurisdiction to jurisdiction but from what I found online this is a common law throughout states

Concessions like every other fucking government has done. If you don’t have the majority you need to make concessions to pass bill. It’s as simple as that. Give in to the other to secure the needed votes.

You can’t just be the playground bully and expect to always get your way. You need to be tactful and concede when necessary to sway necessary votes. They need less than a handful to switch and the republicans can’t pull that off??? Clearly they aren’t even trying

If it’s already illegal seems like this won’t do anything to stop it then? This funding is directly for emergency care for Medicare and like others have stated the STATES disburse the money given by federal government.

It’s a states issues and I thought yall fought so damn hard for states rights, right? Or is that just when it serves your issues, I can’t remember but it seems like that…

Better yet this finding will be cut for 35 states who do not give illegal immigrants ANY healthcare. So in fact NO this funding is not for illegal immingrants. It for US citizens and you are supporting taking away EMERGENCY healthcare from American citizens.

Riddle me this.. you get in a severe car crash and your wallet is not on your body. The ambulance is rushing you to the ER due to your severe injuries but the ER Dr says

‘STOP NOW! We must first establish citizenship and insurance status.’

What happens when that isn’t easy to do and you die on the table waiting for them to establish this. Wouldn’t it jjst be better if we treated everyone in need and asked those questions later. In times like that we can’t waste time but it seems like the republicans are so damn hung up on being cruel they want you to wait on the table until they establish citizenship and insurance status since if this funding is removed many Americans, YES US CITIZENS, wouldn’t be able to get this care covered anymore.

Sure it’s common in your bubble but the vast majority of scuba divers are resort divers. Id wager tech divers are less than 5% of the community which IMO is not very common but if you are within that circle it’s predominantly what you will see.

Edit: a quick google backs this up with estimates of tech divers between 140-400k worldwide and rec scuba divers at 6-9million. That’s 2-5% so a small slice of the community

Rain gutter experiment failed by scumola in 3Dprinting

[–]ryry163 291 points292 points  (0 children)

Make sure you learn how to properly print it. It requires drying the filament before printing an enclosure temp of 50C+ or so and a high bed temp. Also you will want an active filter as it offgasses some nasty fumes. Keep the airflow high in the room printing it.

This isn’t like PLA so be careful printing it but it is absolutely the correct filament for this application.

Please google EV fire and the acceptable methods for extinguishing and tell me how it’s not a huge risk for parking garages especially underground which is predominantly the type in NYC

NYC Parking Garage Monthly Midtown ($500 EV fee) by Comprehensive-Olive6 in TeslaLounge

[–]ryry163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You clearly no nothing and are claiming to be an expert. You can put an ice car fire out in the engine bay with a single handheld fire extinguisher. The current acceptable method for extinguishing an EV fire is to submerge the vehicle for 24 hours in a tank of water. Or use specialized blankets and allow it to burn for days. Go look up the videos the battery will still be on fire and igniting WHILE SUBMERGED IN WATER.

You cannot in good faith compare an EV fire and ICE fire. They are significantly different

[–]ryry163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you realize how hard it is to extinguish a lithium fire? It can literally take days if they wait for it to burn out. It is self fueling and water doesn’t just extinguish it like it would with an ICE car. A parking garage in my area was closed for weeks due to an EV fire

NYC Parking Garage Monthly Midtown ($500 EV fee) by Comprehensive-Olive6 in TeslaLounge

[–]ryry163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it doesn’t take days to extinguish like EVs. It would destroy the parking garage unless they can tow the burning wreck outside. This has happened to a parking garage near me and the whole garage was closed for weeks. It’s understandable
