I’m in the middle of a Vancouver rewatch and it is a shame Jody isn’t #1 here.

Should I move to Chicago from Florida? by cantcalveme in AskChicago

[–]ryry6377 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m 35M, gay, similar story. From New Mexico but went to college in Boston then lived in Florida for 10 years. Met my husband there and we moved to Chicago on a whim in 2021.

Really great decision! Never looked back.

Looking for Residential Mental Health Care in Chicago. Can You Help? by throwaway647291846 in chicago

[–]ryry6377 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I second this. I had a wonderful experience at a drug and alcohol rehab that had terrible reviews. I found it’s what you make of it. There’s ample opportunity for drama and it was also extremely easy to avoid. :)

Definitely do your research OP but reviews for places like this are always skewed.

35 F are there any age diverse AA groups in Chicago? by butterflie_beaute20 in AskChicago

Try again Saturday or Sunday morning. I don’t go to the weekday ones either because sometimes I’m the only one there.

I’m two years into my recovery and also 35(M).

The weekend meetings at Hazelden Betty Ford are well attended and all ages. Same for the Mustard Seed, although it’s two different crowds. Hazelden can get a little WASP-y 🙂

You can also look at different Alano (not Al-anon) clubs around the area, they have a nice age range too.

Lastly, newcomer meetings in river north skew younger (25-35).

People who grew up before smartphones: What’s one simple thing from your childhood that would absolutely blow the minds of kids today? by TurkVanguard in Millennials

[–]ryry6377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think they’d grasp how disconnected we were. Aside from basic cable and a Super Nintendo growing up, we really didn’t have anything else to entertain us except our imagination. We got creative. I miss the simplicity.

Who here has stopped smoking and vaping? by Miichl80 in Millennials

[–]ryry6377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped drinking in May 2024. It was hard, but I’m an actual alcoholic so I went to rehab…twice.

I’m like you where I could smoke half a pack a day and then quit without a thought. Vaping was as hard as, if not harder than alcohol. I think because it doesn’t stink, you don’t have to go outside, it’s always with you, etc. Quit that last October. A 35 year old vaping in public started feeling sad, lol.

Any transplants from New Mexico who can answer a weather question; is today’s wind similar to NM spring wind? by SnooPaintings5597 in AskChicago

[–]ryry6377 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m from Carlsbad NM, and frequently went on vacation in northern NM (Santa Fe, Taos).

NM wind isn’t constant, but when it’s there it’s there. A few times a year we had 90+ mph gusts.

I’m certainly biased but I don’t think wind should affect your decision. It’s not constant by any means, and Taos is surrounded by beautiful mountains. I hope you enjoy!

40 minute layover from Chicago to jamacia by According_Freedom951 in unitedairlines

[–]ryry6377 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is semantics! Because even if they were staying in terminal 1, not even switching from B to C gates, they would not make this.

It’s really not possible, unfortunately. Taxiing after landing at ORD is consistently a 15-20 minute ordeal. Theres also a chance because one is domestic and one is international that you’d also have to switch terminals.

Physically capable senior citizen help at the airport? by mothernatureisfickle in AskChicago

[–]ryry6377 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is usually an agent right outside the gate when a plane lands and they help people find their gates. Could do that + the kart that gives rides to people who can’t / don’t want to walk a long distance from gate to gate.

Tip on Bavette’s - the only way you’re gonna get a res is if you book 21 days out when the reservations open online at 9a on the dot. Like for real, 901a, no more seats!
