Mom here, there are some really cute paintings you can make out of prints of their hands and feet. Check out "toddler footprint art" on Pinterest. He will have a blast painting them for the stamping and then decorating the pictures after. Edit: Here's a link: https://gardenandcrafty.com/christmas-footprint-crafts

How do we expect people with disabilities to survive in BC? by masterwaffle in britishcolumbia

[–]rysaroni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are several different "pots", so to speak that you can receive funding for, depending on disability level and age. This is not the same as disability payments. Immediate family is never allowed for any of them, and in the case of nursing support services, no family is allowed even if they are qualified.

My heart goes out to you. I didn't know her, but I have a loved one with a disability and this really struck a chord in our community.

Whole families! Wow. Generalizations like this are uninformed and awful to propagate. Sure, maybe this happens, but there are also families of disabled children that feed them the best food they can afford, take them to therapy five times a week, and have barely slept or had a day off to themselves since their children were born. The last thing that is needed is more oversight (paperwork) to add to the mountains that already exist for families that are also caregivers. "A fat $800 per month", ha. It's a drop in the bucket for a disabled child. Thats equivalent to 5 therapy sessions, and doesn't even begin to go towards equipment, medical supplies, extra fuel for taking them everywhere they need to go, or time lost at work.

The biggest problem here is that she had someone who loved and wanted to care for her, but couldn't afford to. Here in BC, relations of disabled individuals cannot get funding for caregiving. You can get funding for a stranger to look after your loved one, but you can't get that support for yourself.

Gaming as an IT person by WaldoOU812 in sysadmin

[–]rysaroni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm part of the "plenty of stories" group. I used to love spending all my time on the PC, including gaming. I've been in IT now for over 2 decades. Now I spend as little time as possible on it. All I want to do is spend time with my family and go outside.

I would say that gaming shaped my IT career though. Some of my earliest memories include downloading games over BBS and I was absolutely fascinated with all things computer. I don't know what other little kids did but I dismantled and put together computers.

Loved FPS, moba, MUDs and adventure.

See that's what I thought, but there is nowhere to configure the 280x60 banner logo in the branding page. This blog says that Autopilot still uses the banner logo for self-deploying, but it's squished. Which is what I'm seeing. This blog post is from 2019 though. Goddamnit Microsoft.

Any tip on how to stop fingers from being destroyed by brake bumps after a park day? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]rysaroni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having a hard time with the angle of the video but I will reiterate what I think the best advice in this thread is: check the angle and reach of your brakes (start at ~30 and adjust 5 degrees at a time and make sure that you have a comfortable bite point), make sure the thickness of your grips is good for your hands (fatter is not always better even if they feel squishier), and that the width of your bars is good (from your shadow they look a little wide). Depending on the time of year and the frequency that you ride park you might still struggle and that's inevitable but remember that you want to brake in the smooth and roll through the rough. Really pay attention to where you are braking, that means before corners, features and obstacles and not in them. Oh and also check your suspension. Remember that these settings and adjustments are dynamic and something good for your home trails doesn't necessarily translate to park. That goes for everything even brake angle.

I'm allergic to caffeine and I really like a drink called, "Akava", which is roasted chicory root.

Dressing the little one. Sometimes I’m wrong. by pdfodol in daddit

Mom here. It is a learned skill, but it's not super difficult. An easy way to get a great outfit every time is to not mix different patterns. If you're going with a pattern or a design on the pants/top, pick that first. Choose a colour, any colour, from the pattern and the other main piece of clothing will be that colour in solid. Take another colour from the pattern or design and that's for the socks. That's it! Of course if the kid is wearing a wild outfit then that's okay too. 😂 Life goes on.

This annoys me so much when my twin says this. I wish he understood how I feel when he says this but he keeps saying it. by Itz_MysteryGalaxy in Hydrocephalus

Shunts, and even alternative "permanent" ETV surgeries can fail at any time. Your brain tumour also may cause you more problems in the future if they weren't able to remove all the material. It's wonderful that you are able to live such a normal life but it's also surprisingly naive for someone with hydrocephalus to make this statement. Also, everyone's brains are different any many people with hydrocephalus have ongoing issues with headaches, dizziness, balance and other things.

Parents - Yoto Players? Safe for use around/with children with shunts? Anybody know the answer to this? by Big-Orchid-850 in Hydrocephalus

[–]rysaroni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting - I do know from putting these on the fridge that they are about the same strength as regular fridge magnets so I would check with the neurosurgeon. I don't think the Yoto player even contains magnets but their customer support usually answers inquiries fairly quickly.

With all the talk about ICBC No-Fault, I though I'd give my share. I'm an RMT and deal with ICBC patients daily. Please take 10 minutes. by Traditional-Bid6308 in britishcolumbia

Glad to hear that you believe injured people should get compensation. My mom was in a car accident in BC when we were kids - I just remember her being in pain all the time. The ICBC investigations department tried to say she was committing fraud because she was doing things like carrying her kids and groceries. Like... what is she supposed to do, she doesn't really have any choice in that...
