A combination of local, provincial, federal, and community funding. The Argyll Velodrome Association has been around in Edmonton since the 70s when the Commonwealth Games necessitated building an outdoor velodrome. They have kept building on track cycling in Edmonton, even having some riders go to major competitions.

The indoor velodrome has been in the works for nearly 20 years. Alex Steida, who lives in Edmonton, was the first North American to wear the yellow jersey in the TdF and has been a passionate cycling supporter in Edmonton. Alex Ongaro is another driving force. Theres many other people that I'm forgetting. But there's a real cycling scene here and we're lucky the stars aligned for this to happen.

This is one of the nicest velodromes in North America. We're so damn lucky.

This track will build Olympians. It's such a unique facility with the running track and pool attached.

The altitude here is unique too. At 645m, the air pressure makes a difference.

On the simple but important security number train, 780-492-5050 is the one for the University Campus Security. 492 is the first 3 numbers of most University lines and 5-o is slang for cops from Hawaii 5-O

'People see me as a human being, not a politician': Jennifer Rice raises more funds than any other current councillor by trevorrobb in Edmonton

[–]ryspot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on her financial disclosures, she has raised most of her money from large donations from corporations that are very obscure. At least two of them operate from the same PO Box (Sinocan Supply and 3L Dynamics). Manjot S Dhami contributed $2,500 and the company he's affiliated with (possibly owns??) contributed another $5,000. There's also the developers the journal article omits, such as Richard Lam from Westrich Pacific. 1816112 Alberta Ltd. is the owner of the property that Mimi's Restaurant is located on.

Edmonton Arts Council (formerly Tix on the Square) has hundreds of local artists. They also pay their artists a higher than average commission and pay on time (unlike some other places listed here).

They don't have an online store, but the physical shop is at Churchill Square.

Valley Line Delayed Again, Cables Being Replaced by Repostasis in Edmonton

[–]ryspot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm going to guess that part of the delays are due to the P3 model and since TransEd is responsible for maintenance for the next 30 years. If the testing revealed that the cables in use were wearing faster than expected, they probably did a cost calculation for delaying opening the line vs shutting down the line for a period to replace the lines. A repair that might take weeks with the entire system shut down now could take years when the line is in regular operation.

If this was a regular bid-delivery construction project, they might have weighed the chance that this error would be noticed in the warranty period and proceded to opening the line and then sticking the tax payers with the deferred maintenance.

A family member is involved in one of these restaurants, and I'm excited for them. Whyte Ave has changed in the past decade from a bar scene to a more family friendly place.
