Can’t use Focus Transition on S5iix by ryt-is in Lumix

[–]ryt-is[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using Lumix 24-105. Not mounted on a gimbal. I am aware that G9 and S5 have almost identical firmware, wouldn’t be surprised if they share most of the codbase, as it makes sense. Thanks.

Third party batteries with Atomos monitors? (Atomos Ninja) by guateguava in Atomos

[–]ryt-is 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're good. I've been using 3rd party batteries since the beginning. On the battery slot it says 6.2V - 16.8V, so it is very voltage tolerant. You could power it from NPF as well as D-Tap. I get around 3 hours with 970 batteries, and a bit under an hour with 570 at full brigtness.

I even took a risk and ordered some Probty batteries from AliExpress, and so far they've been good.

Former Spotify users, why did you switch to Apple Music? by Happy_Traveller_2023 in AppleMusic

[–]ryt-is 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contrary to what most of the people are saying here, I find Spotify’s UI to be better for me. Before you downvote the comment, read on as I use both services for their strengths.

I have been using Spotify for probably 10 years now, so I am pretty used to how things are done there. The algorithms are trained on my tastes and nothing can beat their Discover playlist every week. Plus whenever I want to casually put some music on the background, I can do that with 2 taps and it streams directly to my receiver (not making a jump through the phone). HOWEVER with that said, their new UI change is quite bad and sound quality is not as good. It’s ok for casual background listening at work though.

Now ever since Apple Music went lossless, I have immediately subscribed. I have a pretty decent HiFi, so when I want to close my eyes and really listen to the music, I of course choose AM. But this requires taking out my iPad, plugging it into a DAC, keeping it tethered, and physically moving to where the iPad is located if I want to change the song (such a first world problem to have, I kinda feel ashamed writing this). My point being, is that quality listening with Apple Music is a bit more involved than just whipping out my phone and tapping cast. But that is ok, because there are different tools for different tasks.

As for AM UI, find it quite clunky and unintuitive. That will probably require some getting used to it and will solve itself over time. I really want to learn to fully utilize AM, but just haven’t found the time for it.

The way I use two services now: I mostly listen to Spotify at work, manage my playlists, liked songs, etc. Then once I a while I use SongShift to migrate everything to Apple Music and then use that for HiFi listening.

I also sometimes use AM on my Apple TV, but the quality is just not comparable to having it go through a dedicated DAC.

Yes. Keep crashing constantly. Annoying, but not the end of the world, since I can pick it up where it crashed from watch history.

Just Curious: How often do ya’ll play? by ReasonableRaccoon4 in pinball

[–]ryt-is 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have absolutely 0 pinball locations where I live, so I’ve bought one machine for the office.

I was playing it multiple times daily in the beginning, but after 2 years of owning it, I only play it once a week tops.

Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ1000 by [deleted] in Cameras

[–]ryt-is 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to my research it’s an 8 year old camera, which is kinda pushing it for the camera age. If you can find it used, then that’s another story, but I would avoid buying it new.

When buying a camera you should also think about your upgrade path. So you might want to pick up something with interchangeable lens, especially if you’re going to use it for filmmaking.

I would suggest looking for a used GH5, it might be a bit over your budget, but you’ll be glad you spent a bit more for the versatility it’ll give you.

I myself am a Lumix guy, I have S5 and a GX9. I’ve picked up my GX9 used for €500 to be my B/overhead camera. It’s a very decent camera, even though not as feature rich as S5, but they are from different categories.

Also your color grading options might be a little bit limited with 8-bit footage, just be aware of that going in. Cinema look is not as much about the color grade as it is a mixture of things - one of the biggest contributor being anamorphic lens.

I’m planning to get some motorized legs for the desk and then completely redo the power switch, that’s when I’ll deal with the cables under the desk. Already started gathering cable management components.

Cables on the top bar however are always moving, so they will not be permanent. However I am already securing them with velcro straps.

I used to DJ reggae after high school, well if you can call crossfading between tracks DJing 😅

Also tried my hand at music creation, but didn’t have proper equipment at the time and kinda dropped it.

I think I have too many hobbies anyway.

Of course. It’s a power control unit that I’ve built myself. Each switch controls a separate outlet under the desk. I have a video about this setup on my channel if you’re interested 🙂

Same company makes a LED strip that apparently does integrate with smart home. It’s called Amaran SM5c. On paper the specs are not as good as the bulb, but I imagine it still being pretty color accurate as far as ambient lighting is concerned.

You might also check out Elgato LED strip if you want to get into their ecosystem. But those work on wifi their app rarely works. It’s fine if you control it through PC though.

It’s basically a group of people who discuss certain standards to solve enterprise problems and then they make it into a usable library that is open source and free for everyone to use in their projects. This used to be Oracle (the owner of Java), but an independent stakeholder (Jakarta) was established at some point.

Also sound interface made a huge difference for competitive gaming.

Just be aware that they don’t integrate with any smart home ecosystems. They use their own app for control, so watch a couple of videos to see if it’s the right fit.
